Yeah...I'm still using high end Sony CRTs as daily drivers. Nothing's been destroyed. Though I eagerly await such destruction...
(Kind of doubting that 240Hz with Ray Tracing and such is going to be a thing, but I'd love to be wrong about that.)
FWIW: I lower the contrast and brightness on the input to which my work computer is connected. And soon as I stand up from my desk I switch on the screen saver. (One with mostly black, e.g., "Mystify", but not completely black which I heard is damaging to a CRT.)
This is still the highest rate...
Ouch on several levels! Sorry man...
I still remember way back when when you had lowered the brightness and remarked that it looked like an oil painting. In a good way I believe. :)
I have some regrets using mine as a daily driver during WFH and burning hours on it, but my place is small. Was...
Was dreading analog connections disappearing. And sure enough GTX 10 didn't have them. So I picked up a Titan X (Maxwell) used as others were moving on. It was the one that was fully enabled. However, if I recall it had heat issues. And I think it was an Nvidia exclusive. Whereas the 980 Ti was...
Still using the Kantek. (Requires debezeled monitor though.)

Well, my dad has one now. No complaints about text fringing or anything else. (Though he has it a little further back towards the wall.)
Best I can tell, appears to just think the display is awesome though. Flight Simulator must be amazing on it.
What do you think of the F520? Pretty sure the coating is baked on the glass. Would treat as delicate coated optics.
The 510 I guess had a filter film that could be removed? (We had one in the family for years, but I wasn't aware of such things back then.)
Anyway, awesome collection there!
Blow away an FW900 in a meaningful way for motion?
FWIW, if anything, when I trace the UFO test by eye it just looks totally clear on this screen. (FW900 November 2003. Low hours until WFH.)
Have one on order for my parents supposed to ship last Friday. Needless to say at this point it didn't. New date is 20 June.
Until y'all's comments above I didn't have any idea it wouldn't ship. I had thought 2 months wait was quite a bit of time already. Oh well...
"I've never owned a panel with lots of dimming zones so this is mostly theory but I don't believe in FALD."
Roen, though workarounds can be aesthetically distasteful, they can work. FALD is certainly a workaround to get around LCD's limitations. It can produce a very impressive picture though...
I believe in FALD. :)
At least in terms of watching movies.
I briefly had the original 40" Samsung FALD set. Movies looked pretty great on it. However, someone had dropped it or something and one of the corners was messed up. So I returned it. Figured I'd check out the following year's 40"...
On/off contrast or dynamic range is even much higher than that I think. Some publication working with Display Mate had measured the F520 at 15:000 to 1 for example. That along with the blacks giving CRT the depth of picture as long as ambient light is lowered. The ability to reach down and do...
I had several stores open Wednesday morning and bought a 5800x3d the first place it showed up (New Egg).
From a 5800x. Kind of silly maybe, but the x3d looked like it would help in some games. And the tech looked really cool. And the way the last few years have been, sometimes I just put more...
I use 1600 by 1024 at 100Hz and 1880 by 1200 at 85 Hz. These conform with the FW900's true aspect ratio. You can do higher and lower resolutions and Hz of course. (At 100 Hz, for example, 1800 by 1152 was the highest resolution I got, but I don't like to drive devices at their limits. And I did...
You got it for $10K? Last new one went for like $35K or such. So a bargain I guess? :)
If it's really new though, that would be pretty special at this point.
Such a gorgeous screen to this day.
Maybe your tubes are wearing out or something? My Trinitrons are still vibrant and spectacular. IPS really doesn't compare. Looking to OLED and such to finally provide an off ramp.
(I'm talking about in a room with controlled ambient lighting. Admittedly, CRTs do not do well in a well lit...
Just a hats off to "Image Restoration", which I've always thought was quite an advance. Still a great picture, but was just messing around the other night and thought to hold the control down on my F520 triggering the "Reliability Check Mode" that bright white screen, which is some kind of...
Yeah...CRT is not coming back.
I do think it's highly unlikely that Sony was counting on the $2000, sorry, $1999.99, FW900 to save CRT. Sony had a whole range below these screens, E range, G range, and maybe others. And I think those would have been more their bread and butter.
I love this...
It was the end of 2020. Hadn't upgraded for a long time. The recommendation for gaming appeared to be six cores, but figured why not top it off with eight. And kind of silly maybe, but I always like it aesthetically when a chip is fully enabled.
Has LG said anything about BFI removal? Like any explanation or hope that it could be re-enabled? (If you're running 120 Hz that is ignored or such?)
EDIT: Watched HDTVTest video, where he found switch could still be enabled at 120Hz, but to no discernable effect.
Oh man...I know this stuff is somewhat subjective, but I prefer crushed over raised. Is Dell good about fixing such stuff? Or are they more it's done when it comes to putting out monitors?
Is there anyway to fix the near black on the Dell?
And doesn't the LG have several issues near black? Associated with VRR, uniformity (i.e., banding), and some other unfortunate property maybe?
A very frustrating omission. The picture on my FW900 and F520s is still gorgeous. And that UFO thing best I can tell is crystal clear on the CRT. Much better than those images from the Dell. It's 2022. This should not even still be a thing at this point. Sorry. </rant>
EDIT: I'm not cancelling...
Do these UFO images mean we have to get games running at 175 Hz before they start to look clear? Even with a 3090 I don't think I can do that. Cyberpunk worst example maybe...IQ cranked, but DLSS, I'm only able to do about a solid 72Hz at 1200P.
Ordered two with one definitely going to my...
