It's a weird time for power supplies

What do we think of Silverstone PSU's these days? [from the PoV of their higher tiers of products - gold/plat/titanium] I have always used them: 750w strider silver from 2010 - rattly fan for the last six years, but still works fine. 750w strider gold from 2014 - going strong in current PC 650w...

Intel Plans To Battle AMD Ryzen 4000 In 2020 With Mass of Hyper-Threaded Processors Including 5.3GHz

"At least 12 new Intel CPUs could be inbound under the Comet Lake-S banner and while they still sport a 14nm manufacturing process, the addition of Hyper-threading means each could pack a much bigger punch and help Intel hold ground against AMD in 2020." Does Comet Lake-S sport a 'fixed'...

    Ryzen 4000 APU / Zen3 News

the 3400g came with DDR4 2933 support, and that only had the job of feeding 4C/8T and 704 shader units. now we're looking at 8C/16T and and ~900 shaders at 33% plus clockspeed, doesn't feel like DDR4 3200 is a sufficient increase to feed this increased requirement...

    Ryzen 4000 APU / Zen3 News

    Ryzen 4000 APU / Zen3 News

I have some questions for which I know we don't have answers - but I want your considered opinion: 1. If it is announced in Jan at CES2020 - do we expect immediate availability, or might it be closer to March/April before we see them in the shops? 2. Do we expect to see the launch of a...

Ryzen 4000 APU's in Jan - Does that mean B550 in Jan too?

Hi all, We know we're about to receive a new Zen2/Vega derived APU produced on 7nm. It will be announced at CES. I have some questions for which I know we don't have answers - but I want your considered opinion: 1. If it is announced in Jan at CES2020 - do we expect immediate availability, or...

Who will win as the next mainstream wired networking standard? 2.5Gbe or 5Gbe...

Deliberately filed this here rather than in Networking, as the question is about generic to the millions of; motherboards sold, best-buy PC's on sale, and free fibre routers given away on contract. For the last decade at least EVERYTHING has been 1Gbe, but we finally moving beyond that now...

Hi there, Using the latest stable clonezilla to clone my Win7 64bit boot drive (from a Samsung NVME drive), using the disk to image function. Who are madmen buying $700 motherboards?

$700 is crazy money for a mainstream platform like AM4 or 1152. I would not spend more than half that, and i'd expect something pretty special for $350 (~£275)! Right now i'm looking at the Aorus Master as the minimum feature set i'd like to see in a next gen board, and as good as it is the £260...

    Future 38" IPS panel 98% DCI P3 144Hz HDR 600

Some insight into Rome and new 7nm process for Zen 2

Does this mean that the Intel-Vega frankenmonster is actually closer to the future of AMD 7nm APU's than the monlithic RavenRidge design? A smaller IO chip with two DDR4 3200 channels to two IF links; one to a 7nm Zen2 8C chiplet, and the other to a 1024 7nm Navi shaders + Video out. The Zen2...

    AMD Next Horizons Announced

i do expect a two chiplet + IO chip desktop CPU: two DDR4 channels for two chiplets is well balanced vis-a-vis Rome. Rome is specified as having 128 PCIE lanes, which is only 16 for each chiplet. Yes, a shrunk desktop IO or southbridge could include some PCIE, but high end desktop currently has...

12nm AMD Polaris Up and Coming Alright - Pretty Soon Already

will they fix the polaris freesync problem? lots of people reported problems with freesync on the samsung 791 ultrawide, people later realised it affected only polaris (not 290/390), and then confirmed by the arrival of vega which had no freesync problems. what happened with that?

Most stable Vega64 (that will fit in a FT05)?

We have 14nm Vega until the mid-2019 arrival of Navi on 7nm - How about a "Gigahertz Edition" redo?

it is what AMD have said they will do, i.e. 1. release an AI/ML Vega20 on 7nm as a pipecleaner (will require expensive multi-patterning as it is a non-EUV product) 2. follwed up by a consumer part we all know and love as Navi, around Q2 2019. Now, there is nothing stopping them releasing Vega20...

We have 14nm Vega until the mid-2019 arrival of Navi on 7nm - How about a "Gigahertz Edition" redo?

Oh, I have no doubt that that Vega20 on 7nm is coming, but i don't think consumers will see it. 7nm with the huge multi-patterning required of a non-EUV process is going to make it very expensive, as will the interproser required for four stacks of HBM2. It will arrive as a low volume Instinct...

We have 14nm Vega until the mid-2019 arrival of Navi on 7nm - How about a "Gigahertz Edition" redo?

I'm still not convinced that amd has anything more than a re-launched Vega10 on 14nm for thwe high-end. But i'm becoming more and more convinced that the vega mid-range that disappeared may reappear as a 12nm product using a single stack of 2.4Gbps 8GB HBM2.
