Microsoft is turning Windows 11's Start Menu into an advertisement delivery system

Just get a third party Start Menu replacement like StartAllBack. It gives you a Win7ish Start Menu and restores the task bar capabilities (move to sides or top). I've been using Open Shell since the Win8.1 days. When I tried Win11, StartAllBack was the first thing I installed. note: I did...

I use StartAllBack since besides restoring the old task bar it also does a Win7 Start Menu.

The EU doing the stuff our regulators are too lazy to do

It sure feels likes a conspiracy some times. A college professor friend of mine was making youtube videos for his classes during the lock downs. He teaches immunology and his class video on mRNA was taken down because he was talking about the positives AND negatives of the technology.

Microsoft to Remove Ability to Install Win 11 Pro Without Being Online and Signing in to Microsoft Account

I am using dual GPU's of approximately equal performance, an Nvidia GPU for the VM and an AMD GPU for Linux.

Microsoft to Remove Ability to Install Win 11 Pro Without Being Online and Signing in to Microsoft Account

Maybe I'm lucky but I've had no stability issues at all with my setup. I've been testing with some of my favorite games and so far I can't tell the difference between the gaming on the VM and gaming on a real Win10 install. I'd probably see a difference if I was running a game that used lots...

Microsoft to Remove Ability to Install Win 11 Pro Without Being Online and Signing in to Microsoft Account

2 GPUs. If you're not gaming on the Linux side, you can just use any old compatible GPU you might have laying around. Since I build my own systems I've collected a number of low end GPU's that work just fine for the Linux side.

Microsoft to Remove Ability to Install Win 11 Pro Without Being Online and Signing in to Microsoft Account

I did the dual boot thing for a few years but recently switch to running Win10 in a VM (QEMU/kvm). I'm using GPU pass through so gaming is a real option in the VM. It's much more convenient than dual booting. I can be gaming on the VM and still have Linux up an running. I'm using 'evdev' so...

Bill Gates predicts our work meetings will move to metaverse in 2-3 years

Before I retired at the end of 2019, that's the way it worked for me. My boss didn't care if I worked from home or at work. As long as I met the deadline all was good. I mostly went to work to avoid the distractions at home! :)

Apple leaks M1 Max Duo, and M1 Ultra

Personally, I'd be a bit skeptical of the gaming buy numbers for the last couple of years. Cryptomining has really borked the prices for higher end graphics cards. I'm betting it's put a damper on gaming purchases. I know I've not bought a new graphics card due to the drastic price increases...

Windows 11 Will Soon Block All Default Browser Workarounds

It all depends upon your use case. I dual boot and the majority of the programs I use on a daily basis in linux are the same programs that I use on Windows 10 (jEdit, Thunderbird, Vivaldi, Libre Office, VueScan, g++, etc). The only programs I have that make me keep a Windows partition are...

Ford and Purdue develop new EV charging cables

Back in the early 80's I was working on a speed modification for a Philips Laser Disc player. These players used a helium-neon laser so the power supply output was around 20kV. Getting zapped by that was an experience! I could taste my metal fillings, but luckily didn't otherwise hurt myself.

Windows 11 available on October 5

I went the add a new tool bar path. I would say that it is "included" in the normal sense. I'm not hacking the registry to add it, I'm using the task bar feature that lets you add a tool bar to the task bar.

New clothes every season?? I only buy new clothes when something wears out. It's been bluejeans and tee shirts since I was a kid (I'm 68). Luckily, every place I worked had no dress code so bluejeans and tee shirts were fine.

The only advantage I see, for me, is that Windows 11 is supported beyond 2025. There's not a single new feature in Win 11 holds any interest to me.

Windows 11 leak reveals new UI, Start menu, and more (UPDATE - added source for Windows 10 retirement date)

Yep, the only things keeping a Windows partition on my main machine is gaming and photo editing (I pretty much hate Gimp!). Most of my time is spent in MX Linux.

Microsoft enables Linux GUI applications in Windows 10 .... TF?

Yep, I dual boot and gaming is the major thing that keeps a windows partition on my machine. I also would rather do my photo editing in Affinity Photo instead of Gimp! All my other computer needs are handled by MX Linux.
