Anybody plan on grabbing one of the new RX7xxx Navi cards on launch?

They seem to do this all the time. I think it's just repurposing chips that failed to make the cut for the higher end product. There's always a price premium it seems because they're never produced in very high quantities anyway (5800x was similar on the cpu side). Last gen they probably made a...

    RTX3070TI vs 6900XT

I'd go for a 6900xt. I think nvidia only makes sense currently at the very high end (4090). People have been selling 6900xt's here for ~$500-550 and you could probably even get a 6950xt from someone who's upgrading soon. You can get a 3080ti at a similar price if you need nvidia features. The...

    Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

I wanted better portrait art so I had this made. Turned out a little too anime-ish for my taste but figured I'd share it anyway. Comixbooks, do you know if there's any way to buy the season passes on GOG?

    RX 6800 problem

I would get this occasionally when my GPU crashed. It should reset it to default clock settings and undo any tweaks you've made. Until you restart though sometimes catalyst control center won't re-open. Not really a big deal, just points to instability (I had this when I was mining and...

    unlimited budget server/workstation, EPYC 9174F?

That looks slick but I was thinking more something that can slide into a rails if you decide to move it into a rack later. Things like these Silverstone RM42-502 Supermicro CSE-745 (fugly, just an example)

    unlimited budget server/workstation, EPYC 9174F?

Have you decided on a case yet? There's some cases out there in 4U footprints that can also be rackmounted if you decide on making a server out of it later. sorry for encouraging him, but I miss fun builds like this.

MicroCenter confirms GeForce RTX 4080 US pricing, from $1200 to $1549

No. But here's the weird thing to me: Even last gen when they had competitive cards, availability for AMD cards was much better. Is that taking into account the latest drivers for the 3xxx or are they reusing old benchmarks?

    Nintendo's worst mistakes.

I grew up on the N64 and generally loved it and the games on it. The controller does suck but I didn't care at the time, and more controllers sucked back then. The cartridge vs CD thing is a trade-off but I greatly preferred cartridges despite the price increase. You didn't have to worry about...

    unlimited budget server/workstation, EPYC 9174F?

Having an unstable work machine is going to cost you more money than the extra performance is worth. The optane drives don't directly connect to any consumer PC parts so you need an adapter for them. The adapters are all kinda janky from what I've seen though, and while a 1 x optane adapter...

Nvidia 4090 meltdown maybe an answer

If you're providing power over the pcie bus from one PSU and the rest of the GPU power over a separate PSU you'll probably kill the card (Source: I may have done this one time).

Nvidia 4090 meltdown maybe an answer

I'll fight you. My least favorite connector ever. (Note: I haven't tried this new nvidia connector) Stole this from the GN video. Calling this user error is crazy. Definitely a bad design.

Don't do it. Save that for the gaming/toy machine. Let us know how the optane performs with those adapters.

MicroCenter confirms GeForce RTX 4080 US pricing, from $1200 to $1549

Yeah, the 4080 at $1200 just seems horribly priced. I don't blame nvidia for getting what they can now, but I can't imagine sales being good once the AMD cards come out, unless they drop prices to match.

    RTX 4080: Countdown To Second-Best™

RAM is made by a cartel of a few companies and they're periodically fined for price fixing. I've never seen anyone scalp RAM before. As for GPU prices, there's multiple industries now vying for the same supply and it all comes from 1-2 places, so until that's fixed I don't see things getting...

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

I honestly didn't mind the combat in the third game but I can agree it's... wonky. It's definitely not like valheim or something where you expect to have some fine tune control though. If you still want to give it a run through, try out this mod that modifies the combat heavily to make it more...

Insane GPU prices in 2022 WTF?

Because it's faster than anything in the previous gen? So instead of destroying sales for unsold 3xxx cards they can just layer in the 4xxx on top of those cards. What is AMD going to do, out compete them? That could happen, but there's still months of time between their generations and brand...

    GPU brackets?

I was getting some random instability on my 3080 so I put one in and it fixed the problem. So FWIW it worked for me. I wish there was a less ghetto solution though.

    unlimited budget server/workstation, EPYC 9174F?

Apparently they can be kind of a crapshoot and your second drive might only run at x1 if you get a bad design. These are only $20 but are 1 card per :( https://www.ebay.com/itm/255173715523?hash=item3b6989e643:g:XS4AAOSw3sFhZAvh

    unlimited budget server/workstation, EPYC 9174F?

Intel just discontinued optane this year. The P5800X is, I believe, the latest/highest end one they released. It should be pcie 4.0. It's crazy expensive per gigabyte and the formfactor is weird and the speed benefits only seem to make sense for certain workloads (hence poor...

    unlimited budget server/workstation, EPYC 9174F?

I thought I told you to get the P5800X, what the hell. This build got way too soft :( Is that what generally causes the long boot times? I don't have a lot of memory by volume in my supermicro boards but all slots are filled and it only takes maybe 2 mins to boot.

    unlimited budget server/workstation, EPYC 9174F?

What tasks exactly will you be doing? Here's a few options: 1.) 64 core epyc milan & supermicro h12ssl-i. If you go for a 7b13 or 7j13 (basically a 7713 built for efficiency) you'll get 64 milan cores that boost to almost the same speed and it'll cost you <$2k for the CPU + motherboard. The...

Long shot but does anyone here fix graphics cards?

Now? Probably not. Razorwind does GPU repair for fun and can help you troubleshoot what might be wrong with it, but paying for repairs on a $200 GPU probably doesn't make sense unless you live in taiwan. I'd just sell it as a parts only for $50-75 unless you want to spend time repairing it.

Newegg is doing the b/s bundles again for the new NVidia cards

Yeah, it's odd. Not even microcenter does it. You'd think when someone submitted a helpdesk ticket there would be a dollar figure next to their name showing spending over the last year.

Which RTX 4090 card are you planning or consider to get?

It's ok, they're garbage for memory intensive algorithms like ethash anyway due to the gimped memory bus. They're great at core intensitve algorithms that max out power usage though, like ravencoin's kawpow. :ROFLMAO:

Which RTX 4090 card are you planning or consider to get?

Wow, this is worse than I imagined. Even if you bent it 30 degrees or so it looks like it would still stick out 3-4 inches beyond the panel on a full size case. The cablemod 90 degree adapter looks good, but with PSUs being bottom mounted nowadays it still looks like you'd have to bend it more...

Xilinx C1100 FPGA (ETH & KASPA)

Ah, that's what I was doing wrong. I figured the ETH settings would be safe enough, but didn't think I was that much higher than the best settings. Lowering core clock to 550Mhz fixed the hashrate and now it's at 4.4Ghash. Thanks, just doubled my profitability, lol. I'll have to play around and...

    RTX 4xxx / RX 7xxx speculation

Right. I think they're rated for something like 18kW  I just mean the design seems compact enough and you wouldn't have to worry about pins becoming mis-aligned. Probably more expensive than the molex design but who cares when it's on a $1600 GPU.

    RTX 4xxx / RX 7xxx speculation

That's my understanding for why nvidia pushed for the smaller connector. But the weird thing is, they have plenty of room to increase the size of their PCBs now that coolers are twice as large. Sure, it'd add extra materials cost, but it would work. I'm sure they already went through all this...

Xilinx C1100 FPGA (ETH & KASPA)

Update to this. Kaspa bitstream is now up on teamredminer as of last week or so. I'm not able to run the same clock speeds as ETH with it. Stock settings gets almost 2.4GH/s, but still fiddling with and trying to get better settings to work. These settings worked for me: --fpga_update_fw...

Anyone “upgraded” from 5900X to 5800X3D for gaming?

The gains can be very game/application specific. MMOs, Flight Sims, and some others benefit heavily while with others you might not see any benefit from the 3d v-cache. I'd look up game specific benchmarks to see if it'll be worth it to you. I don't play MMOs anymore, but in that use-case it...
