Time to upgrade- 5820k@4.3GHz, should I even bother with a 6950k, Xeon, or just invest in a totally new mobo/cpu?

Figured as much. I will wait for the new Intel CPUs to decide what route to go in. I was going to take advantage of the Microcenter free DDR5 deal with the new AMD CPUs but the new B650 boards should be out by then as well.

Time to upgrade- 5820k@4.3GHz, should I even bother with a 6950k, Xeon, or just invest in a totally new mobo/cpu?

I wasn't really maintaining a consistent 60fps on my old 4k monitor on most of the newer games, now I have the FV43U which is Freesync 4k/144.

Time to upgrade- 5820k@4.3GHz, should I even bother with a 6950k, Xeon, or just invest in a totally new mobo/cpu?

Mostly for 4k/144Hz gaming (2080Ti to be upgraded eventually as well). I will retire the old setup as an Unraid server (provided I upgrade whole-hog, case, cooler, etc). Looking for thoughts on this, most of the higher-end X99 Xeons can be had for dirt cheap now, even the 6950x can be found...

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

I updated to F07. No Geforce certification. The first few times I tried to update it didn't take. Finally worked. Says "Freesync" logo now on logo screen, not sure if it was there before. I don't really see any differences. Could be some new settings, if there are I can't tell which. Maybe just...

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

What does the driver do? There is no HDR certification like that in Windows 10 (I assume you're on Win 11). I installed the driver in Win 10. What's the point of setting the display to 12bit? It's a 10bit display isn't it? Mine is set to 10bit YCbCr444

3yrs later I still had plastic on my EVGA 2080Ti Black

If you’re asking if the plastic was melted by the heat, then no, not all. It was only along the edge and on so perfectly I could barely see it. As I recall my last EVGA card had the same problem, there was shipping plastic on the card I had missed for months.

3yrs later I still had plastic on my EVGA 2080Ti Black

I was blowing dust out of my PC earlier and I was taking a closer look at my EVGA 2080Ti and lo and behold I noticed there was what I thought was shipping plastic along the edge. EVGA does an amazing job putting plastic on their cards, it's hard to tell it's even there. It took me a while to...

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

So it's been a couple of weeks and this display is amazing. I'm still not used to using a flat screen, so it looks curved back like a CRT (I know this is an optical illusion), but other than that for $600 this display was a steal. Much, much better than the 7yr old Samsung 4k TV I've been using...

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/hawb4j/switching_from_curved_to_flat_monitor_screen_now/ It's funny, my screen appears bowed back (convex) from the center. I noticed it immediately but thought it was an optical illusion from my previous display being a 48" curved TV for 7yrs. It...

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

I’m only using the FV43 as a dedicated pc display (I have a Vizio 85” TV in the same room) and I have a SB Katana soundbar so it works well for me. Plus I’m still on a 2080Ti so DP is the only way I’ll get 144Hz support. If I need a big screen gaming experience I’ll just use my TV. It’s...

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

Yes upgrade the firmware. Mine was on F04, it took me a while to upgrade but I feel that F06 had resolved a few issues. It seems I got a stellar deal for $600 new from Amazon. Even though it will take me a while to get used to going from a 48” display to a 43” one, this one is so much better...

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

Yes, I noticed that. The screen was lying on a flat surface but the screw holes still didn’t quite line up. Definitely a quality control issue. But they’re in enough and it’s standing flat so it really doesn’t matter. Also I find it interesting that on the calibration report the Blue deltaE on...

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

Is it just me or does it look like screen is curved backwards from the center? It might be an optical illusion because my previous display was a 2015 48" Samsung 4k curved TV- made for a pretty mediocre display but it was big, this is more reasonable. I do have a few initial complains (just set...

I bought a used LenovoEMC PX4-400D, what should I do with it?

Thanks for pointing this out. Yes, I can go into the bios and boot from a flash drive. I just bought a 64GB small drive so I can put it flush against the wall on a shelf. I'll give it a shot- the PX4-400D has an HDMI out which makes everything so much easier. I also have some extra DDR lying...

It's EOL, and unsupported, but even though it's a little old (2014) the hardware is pretty solid- apparently it's just...

I can't bring myself to spend more than MSRP. I have a 2080Ti so that will hold me over for a while (although I'd like better because I game at 4k). I guess I'll upgrade my other stuff first- my CPU (5820k) is getting a little long in the tooth- it's time I buy a new case too.

    HDMI 2.1 - which gpu?

Ok. Vizio's implementation of eARC can pass bitstreamed DTS-HD and TrueHD, but with only PCM 2.0 implementation you can't use it for proper PS5, PC or Apple TV audio (probably other streaming devices as well).

    HDMI 2.1 - which gpu?

What's not? The TV is supposed to support eARC, it doesn't implement it properly. 7.1PCM is part of the eARC spec, LG TVs can support it.

    HDMI 2.1 - which gpu?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08MSWMXT4 Got this yesterday- it's great. It's better than my 2080Ti's built in HDMI port- I can output up to 12bit 4k/60Hz 4:4:4 YCbCr on my Samsung I use as a display. I have yet to try on my Vizio PQX mainly because of Vizio's shitty HDMI 2.1 compliance...

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

I'm in no real rush as I don't expect to get a new setup or GPU (5820k@4.3+2080Ti) until the silicon shortage breaks. I am still very curious about whatever 42" OLED is targeted specifically at the PC market. Burn in still concerns me and I'm hoping there will be features specifically to deal...

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

Yeah. I was always planning on upgrading my 2080Ti to a 3080Ti but that’s not likely to happen now, so even if I got a 144Hz display I couldn’t really drive it that well with my current setup. Freesync would be nice tho. The 48JU6700F makes for a decent enough display for a fake-HDR 4K TV but...

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

I wouldn't use the speakers- Still seems pretty ironic to me that a display like this costs less than a videocard. I'm torn- I know there will be other 43" models equivalent to this coming soon, and I'm not sure if I want to wait for the 42" OLEDs. I really don't like my 48" 2015 curved...
