    RTX 4xxx / RX 7xxx speculation

I agree. The only thing I question about the graph: is that 70% margin just for consumer graphics cards or overall? If it is for consumer stuff, then, wow. But if that comes from enterprise/supercomputer/ai products then it isn't as big of a "wow". those areas are boom-or-bust so big...

[Rumour] Intel to cut back on Arc discrete GPU

If discrete cards were used exclusively for entertainment, i could see intel quitting. But now the real money is in compute. And common substrate, chiplet designs look like they will be the top performing solutions. If Intel quits, that leaves AMD as the only company capable of making...

I dont have any skin in this game. It's just that I think can run Intel better than thier managment team.

[Rumour] Intel to cut back on Arc discrete GPU

Maybe Intel should have killed thier xeon line because it has stunk compared to Amd? And all those spectre flaws? Shut down the entire server division!

[Rumour] Intel to cut back on Arc discrete GPU

Maybe, or maybe not. Its a better idea than just shutting down the whole division. Even Nvidia and amd have had to survive turd product generations every now and then.

[Rumour] Intel to cut back on Arc discrete GPU

Intel should sell these cards at cost, get them out there with low expectations. People will buy them for generic 2d and encoding tasks. Once there are enough cards in the wild, game makers will have to work with Intel and Intel can use thier experience to write a better driver. I think that...

[Rumour] Intel to cut back on Arc discrete GPU

It sounds like the hardware is pretty solid, its the software they can't get right. I heard, (semiaccurate?) That the shader compiler team was based in Russia and everything went i to the toilet when the Ukraine invasion happened.

    Windows 12

Why did windows 10 remove the ability to resize window border (thickness)? Why are the inactive and active window titlebars the same color? Ok, it may appeal to people and look stylish, but it is a royal PITA in my use case where I have multiple open windows overlapping another all with the...

    RTX 4xxx / RX 7xxx speculation

Wouldn't Nvidia launch the 4080 first then tweak the 4090 based on Amd's top end card? If they launch the 4090 first and amd can match it, that doesn't leave them any room to claim the crown

I would pay full retail if they allowed me to customize the UI as I see fit. I dont even want any new features, just the ones they took away.

Power disruption at Micron DRAM facility in Japan

I just don't think they would have to manufacture a crisis to manipulate thier selling price. They can slow down production without wrecking thier factory.

Power disruption at Micron DRAM facility in Japan

Its a pretty simple calculation. Cost of lost production versus cost of mitigation. Its also possible that they carry insurance to cover these types of disruptions, or even have a deal negotiated with the power company.

Power disruption at Micron DRAM facility in Japan

Yeah a lot depends on the infrastructure. It doesn't help to have two substations if they are both fed from the same unreliable supplier. And running a data center on generator power is one thing, a large factory is probably 2 orders of magnitude more power. Factory I worked at pulled over...

    RTX 4xxx / RX 7xxx speculation

Just because a company puts out an extreme product doesn't mean you are obligated to buy it. If someone feels angst because they can't buy the most overpriced, ridiculous card, the marketing department owns them. They have become the mindless consumer every company dreams about.

AMD announces Ryzen 7000 Zen 4 CPUs

Yes, that is true. How it is stored also can affect longevity. Back in the day, I would burn copies of my CDs to keep in the car. Even the good quality CDRs I bought would not last more than a couple years in a hot car. The data ones, stored in a cool, dry dark place are still fine.
