Live Coverage of the Apple Event

That is true. It does fit that niche pretty well. It will be interesting to see where the ipad will land as a device.

Live Coverage of the Apple Event

Well it's a big ipod, and most people don't have 16 GB of music so they must have though it was enough. But wouldn't people want to watch HD movies on this? That takes a lot of space though.... so I circle back to my this thing is just weird comment. The iPad is shaping up to be the Tom...

Live Coverage of the Apple Event

I guess if you look at it from the perspective that it's an advanced ebook reader it makes sense. A Kindle for $300 or a kindle sized ipod touch for $500.... but even then I guess the ebook fans like them because they're black an white... Hmmm.....this is just a weird little device.

Live Coverage of the Apple Event

This thing kind of seems like a joke doesn't it. I mean literally a joke that Apple is pulling on everyone before they release the real tablet. Or are they really serious??? All this hype was for a big ipod touch?

    Which 2TB drives for NAS?

I swore I'd never buy another Deathstar as I had all of my IBM ones die on me back in the day. It looks like Hitachi only took the name though and made great strides with the drives. I'm open to consider them. I also should be clear that reliability is my #1 concern as these drives will be...

    Which 2TB drives for NAS?

I currently have a Synology DS209+ with two 1 TB WD10EADS drives as a backup for one of my VMware clusters. It's worked great but it's time to upgrade. I'm going to upgrade to an RS409+ and fill it with four 2 TB drives. I've gone through the list of approved drives from Synology but I'm...

Looking for very small speaker wall mounts

Yes. The main reason I'm sending them back is aesthetics. They are much larger than I need them to be and they look cheap. The fact that they are difficult to move around is just another reason I don't like them.

Looking for very small speaker wall mounts

I just picked up a HT in a box and want to mount the speakers to the wall on a mount that I can swivel. I just received a set I ordered from Newegg, and will be sending them back because they look incredibly cheap and they are horrible to try and move around. So, I'm looking for...

Sony Still Losing Money On Every PS3 Sold

Yeah, that's one of Sony's best techniques. Develop a proprietary media and rip people off with it. I don't like the idea of buying a movie for $30. Maybe I'll change my tune when I get my 1080p TV though.

TV: How large is too large?

Thanks for all the responses, they remove almost all of my fear of getting too big of a TV. Some of you say you sit really close to your TV's, well what I consider close anyway. Do you find yourselves turning your heads while watching? And do you notice a difference in comfort when...

TV: How large is too large?

I'm going to purchase my dream TV early next year for my b-day and I'm trying to figure out how big of one to get without getting one that's too big. My primary seating distance will be 12' away with others about 12' to the side and floor seating about 6-8' away. Now from guides I see on the...

    Best music download service?

Funny, I do have a Zune (I won it) but never thought of the Zune Marketplace because I hate their software so much. :p I just downloaded Rise Against's "Appeal to Reason" album (AWESOME album BTW!!!) from Amazon. Very easy and it sounds great. Thanks for the posts so far.

    Best music download service?

It's finally time for me to join the 21st century and find a music download service. I haven't payed attention to it much so I don't know all the services out there or which ones are the best. I'm looking for recommendations. My stipulations are: I will not use itunes, napster or wal-mart...

Looking for fast 2 disk NAS.

Hmm...looks like my last post didn't survive the db crash. :) To sum it up: I've decided to go with the 209+ Cyant - This is going into a rack we lease at a data center or else I would definitely go with a DIY setup. Nitrobass24 - Thanks for the non-hot swap info, I didn't catch that...

Can't decide. AAKS AALS or 7200.12?

They delivered my drive today! I'm looking very much forward to not having to install games on a separate HDD anymore. :p Thanks again for your suggestions.

Looking for fast 2 disk NAS.

I'm looking for a fast 2 disk NAS to use for daily backups off a SAN. Requirements: I will be putting this at an off-site location so I need something reliable that won't lockup. I want a two disk setup to cut down on MTBF. It would be long drive to replace a HDD. I want to run a RAID 1...

Can't decide. AAKS AALS or 7200.12?

If there was a noticeable performance difference I'd go with the 1TB drive, but from what I gather the 640GB and 1TB perform the same. Correct?

LOL exactly. :) I don't need that much space in my main rig. That's what my file server is for. ;)

Can't decide. AAKS AALS or 7200.12?

Thanks for all the feedback. For $5 more I'm going to go with the AALS. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319 Gotta order it today so I can have it for this weekend. :p Thanks again.

Can't decide. AAKS AALS or 7200.12?

I saw those horrible random access times for the 7200.12 in MaximumPC, wasn't sure if they were valid though. I should have specified that I don't have the cash to drop on a VelociRaptor. :( I'm looking at the $75 - $100 range.

Can't decide. AAKS AALS or 7200.12?

My 37GB Raptor is finally dying. While it's still under warranty, I'm not going to put it back in my main rig as my primary drive. I'm torn on what to buy but think I have it limited to 3 options. WD6401AALS, WD6400AAKS, or a new Seagate 7200.12 drive. The Seagates are new and I can't...

Timesync: the peer's stratum is less than the host's stratum

Gaaah!!! Need some help here. I need to force a time sync on XP and 2003 clients. I administer a network with many remote sites. I changed our time sync hierarchy and now cannot get some clients to sync. I get the following error: An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with...

Nice, thanks for the info, I've never heard of (or paid attention to) this game. I LOVED OFP and this might pass the time until Dragon Rising is released.

    Sync toy in Vista

I'm guessing you're trying to sync your user account folder correct? If so it's not going to grab all the files because many are system files. To check this go into your user account file, highlight everything and select properties. If the file count on this matches your sync toy count you're...

    Gigabit network...CAT 5e or CAT 6, complications?

My recommendations: - Run all cables so that you can easily re-pull or add to them if necessary. If you can, run them all to the attic then drop them straight down. Also leave a fish string dropped down with each bundle so you can quickly and easily pull another cable back up. - Remember...

    Hosted anti-spyware. Anyone using it?

I started a 2-week trial of MessageLabs anti-spyware this week. I played with it for an hour or so yesterday and wasn't able to infect my test PC. It's pretty slick. For the test I just setup a proxy in IE to send all my internet traffic to them. They scan it and redirect me if I get to a...

Trying to hit 1Gbps on home LAN, having troubles

I have been using iperf and it's giving me 350Mbps which I thought low. However, my file transfer test gave me the same results but that's much more what I expect with the HDD's in the equation. I guess I don't need to hit 800+ Mbps in iperf if I don't get equal real-world results.

Trying to hit 1Gbps on home LAN, having troubles

Correct, I agree with that and that's what I expected. I did think I'd be able to hit higher speeds than 350Mbps, but taking into account my HDD, which I overlooked, 350 now makes much more sense. A question for those recommending better NIC's - How will that improve transfer speeds if my...

Trying to hit 1Gbps on home LAN, having troubles

Ha-ha brilliant!...That is true, that my hard drive may be limiting me on my server box, it is rather old. I will have to look at the specs on that guy. Can't believe I didn't think of that. :o My deal is that I have a file server that I store everything on. The problem is coming up when I...
