a Second for Seagate EXOS. I have four in a Synology 918+, 5 feet from my desk. They are no louder or quieter than the Western Digital drives. My friend has one with Ironwolf drives and it sounds similar. You would be good with either.
When they start having problems with the yield of new high end Xeons, we will be blessed with the "New" HEDT CPU's. They have easier ways to profit than by rewarding their loyal customers with what they want. Just sayin.
Right on the nose. Power and heat cause the need for bigger cooling, power supplies and a bigger battery backup. What about California's power computer usage law thing? I wonder Intel can pass the test on that
Picked up an Asus Z690M Plus D4 with a 12700k. Not bad. IF you have a Z490m Plus with a 10700k, you will not notice much of any difference. The CPUZ benchmark is better, but to me, it doesn't offer much difference. The TEMPS of the CPU weren't as bad as I thought they would be. Using a...
Just throwing it out there. If your Video card needs a lot of power, you system could become unstable and reboot when playing COD. Not worth the risk. A reboot when you are tea bagging/taking dogtags is a risk I am not going to take.
I am on a 450 watt PS, but I don't have a 3080 or a...
I had two different 10980xe's. Good chips. Got to 4.4ghz all core, but with a voltage increase. I used a 280mm AIO from BeQuiet. It ran hot 45-50 C idle and 75-80 under full load. Ran a little cooler at 4.2ghz. 40c idle and 70 full load.
Xeon V4's do work in the 5810- Bios update may be needed before you upgrade. Avoid ES - engineering samples as they don't turbo. The 2699 V3 is about half of the 2699 V4. The 2678 V3 is probably the best value.
I just picked up a Barebones 5810 as a project.
As for CPU's - I have tried a 1650 V3 and a 2687 V3 in it and both work. I have a 2699 V3- which I haven't tried yet.
Next step is to modify and remove the code so I can all core turbo the CPU. Which may help is speed over non all core turbo
I was using a Be Quiet Dark Rock TF on a single 2678 V3. Runs silent with one fan.
Just upgraded to a 2699 V3, same cooler. If you have the spacing between CPU's, great cooler.
Picked up the 2678 V3 for $65 and the 2699 V3 for $300
I have 5 of these in a Synology currently. The white label WD's aren't bullet proof by any means. Out of the Original 12 bays of 12tb drives four have died in the past 14 months. They drop out of the array and won't pass a smart test. These are CMR drives. Just FYI.
What brand type of drives? I have had 3 WD white label drives die in the past year and have dealt with similar. I have resorted to using the rest in a raid 5 because I no longer trust them. I switched power supplies thinking the same thing, but it didn't fix it for me.
