My first 3D card was the TNT (Creative Graphics Blaster CT6710). Don't recall what the first game to use it was - probably something running on the original Quake engine.
I'm not sure I'd call 8k with nightmare settings at mostly 60fps (with a few dips) 'complete shit,' but I agree that consumers should be wary without pre-launch reviews.
I also received a win notification from Votigo this morning.... thought for sure it was a phishing scam at first. Big thanks to [H] for alerting me to the contest in the first place!
I didn't realize how much I truly dislike all of these modern 'innovations' until watching this trailer. Makes me long for Unreal Tournament.... or hell, I'd even take the original team fortress (Quake 1 mod) over today's F2P incarnation. Could be an interesting game if it ends up having a...
Just got mine two days ago and moved my rig in.
Build quality is solid, but I think it's a bit overpriced for what you're getting. The plastic (WTF plastic??) pieces that hold the front fan fixture into place were broken on arrival - waiting to hear back from Lian Li about replacements...
It's a shame Lian-Li doesn't stay more up-to-date with their feature sets. I've been using a PC-65 for about 10 years - and while it's a great quality case - it really lacks so many of the modern conveniences that even the cheapest cases offer now.
Really looking forward to retail...
I decided to pick up a cheap Xeon for my aging Rampage III - hoping that will satiate my upgrade-lust until the next Tic. I too would like to see DDR4 speeds and prices to improve.
Hey guys - I just picked up a x5650 on eBay to replace my 930. I have very little experiencing OC'ing and would be very appreciative of some hand-holding as I put this Xeon on my Rampage III and get it running in the 4ghz territory. How do I get this ball rolling?
I've seen a couple recommendations for people in similar situations to just sink <$100 into a Xeon 5650 and OC to the limit... but I feel like the feature set on the x58 platform is getting really stale... for example, I'm not getting maximum performance out of my SSD because of the x58 chipset...
Coming from an extremely long-in-the-tooth x58 setup, I'm really torn between Haswell-E and Devil's Canyon chips. I do some occasional work in Lightroom, but 99% of my PC time is gaming so it seems like the premium on the Haswell-E isn't worth it for me. At the same time, the feature set is...
Really disappointing - I was planning on finally ditching my aging i7 930... we'll see how this pans out in the next few days before retail availability.
Antec makes some solid, value-friendly products. The original Antec Sonata case + PSU (Piano Black finish) was one of the most solid, easy-to-work-with cases that I've ever purchased. At the time, it put my more expensive Lian-Li cases to shame in terms of accessibility.
Heya guys -
I'm looking to do a pretty major system overhaul in the next couple weeks. You can see my current system config in my sig - planning on getting a new video card, mobo, cpu, memory, and hard drives.
I've already settled on picking up a Radeon 5870 1gb for the video.
I'm...
Exactly. You can't waive liability - that's the way the law works.
Just because you sign a piece of paper before you sky dive doesn't mean that the skydiving operator wasn't liable should you be injured or die in the course of your skydiving.
I'm not sure what threat they could hope to combat with this sort of executive power over the internet - or how you would go about creating such a power structure... it's not like the internet is housed in some big building somewhere.
To me, this just sounds dangerously close to state...
Ok - I get the theoretical distinction:
i5 = mainstream user, the majority of people will buy this because of the price - performance ratio
i7 = enthusiast user, a minority of people will buy this because they don't care about the price
The question then becomes - in terms of these chips...
Where exactly is the new i5 processor line supposed to fit into the overall strategy for intel? It sounds like the 'older' i7 architecture is still going to be more powerful moving forward - and I assume intel will be making processors for the i7 sockets as well as for the new i5 (LGA 1156)...
I'm curious about this additional layer of copper in the board for thermal dissipation - does that actually work? Is the board noticeably heavier because of this?
Currently running an 8800GTS (But the gimp 320mb version) and my mobo doesn't support SLI. I was thinking about getting one of the new(er) ATI cards, but only if a single card will give a tangible benefit over my current card and if adding a second card for crossfire later would make sense if I...
I picked up a BFG power supply at BestBuy a couple months ago - except in the sealed box I found a Dell branded piece of crap. I was more than a little peeved.
I wish I was in a position to drop $500 on a video card like in years past, but now that's just impossible.
I guess I'd look to spend $300 max, but would prefer to spend less - whatever will yield a really noticeable upgrade in performance over the 8800GTS - I haven't stayed current with the...
Minor Update:
I went ahead and purchased another 2gigs of the same memory for $26 shipped - probably the cheapest upgrade I can find.
I'm gonna go ahead and keep working on this platform - I'll probably wait for the 'next' socket revision after the LGA1366 to make the switch to a new...
Yes, gaming is mainly what I use my machine for (My current LCD maxes out at 1280x1024 - so not exactly high-res) - though I do dabble in some multimedia production. Time permitting, I like to play just about anything so staying on top of the tech has been my one monetary indulgence. Sadly...
