Only bought one small game called To The Moon. Was quite enjoyable.

    New speakers

Well if the OP is going DIY, he better either get a kit or use a proven design. Even with good components, you design the crossover wrong and you can get a disaster. I am not even worthy of being considered a noob in DIY but even I know that much. If B00nie can suggest some good designs...

    Downsizing my PC audio rig

I think one possible small MTM design is the Anthony Gallo Strada. However they are very expensive (I think like $900 each) and don't know how good they are.

    Is my setup correct?

Are you getting a passive or active sub? If active, the sub will be self powered and the Lepai's main purpose will be to send the analog signal to the sub and speakers and power the speakers.

    Need Amplifier advice

Well if this is for your PC, you are going to be near field so watts shouldn't be too much of a problem. Don't know much about the Sherwood. Another option from A4L http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENAVR1312/DENON-AVR-1312-5.1-Channel-A/V-Home-Theater-Receiver/1.html...

    Seeking spectacular sound setup

Overkill is really a personal opinion and budget limit. Are you thinking of a speaker system or headphones?
  8. Z

Just curious: Why does your average person or gamer need a sound card in 2013?

I think this depends on the person's taste and budget, as well as the weakest link. I often see people buying very expensive sound cards and then connecting it to cheap PC speakers at which point there is an imbalance. At some point the speakers will be so limiting, the improvement in the card...

Budget 2.0 speakers for the wifey?

You still may want to get her the A2s. Many people (including myself) felt they would never need good sound from their PCs until they get a nice set of speakers and then its like "OMG how did I live with such ***ty sound for so long?". I remember my wife used to make fun of gaming mice (who...

    Is my setup correct?

Speakers are a very personal thing so its a bit difficult to say what you like OP. Speakers like the Klipsch have always been characterized to have a "bright" sharp sound. If this is your preference then they would be good. Other speakers like I think the Swans active sets are said to have a...

    Speaker selection for SB Zxr?

Sounds good. Yeah they ain't no Logitech price. :D But those Emotiva speakers probably sound fantastic. I have seen people put very expensive Dynaudios, Adams, Genelecs and others on their PC so this would fall into that category. Give us a listening review if you get them.

    Speaker selection for SB Zxr?

Ascend Acoustics have always received good reviews and the Sierra-2s sound (no pun intended) interesting. If those are your 1st choice speakers you may want to wait for them. If I recall Sierra-1s were like $1k speakers pair. Are the 2s similarly priced and is this a price you are willing to...

Any opinions on Klipsch Synergy S-10? Compared to other 2.0 options?

For Polk speakers, you can also try their factory direct outlet store on eBay if you are ok with eBay. They currently have the TSi100 for a immediate buy for $120.00...

Looking for new headset and speakers

Nice setups! Yeah, like spaceman says, it is unfortunate that the recent B652's sound so poor compared to the old ones. Someone named ZeosPantara posted a comparison and even through Youtube, you can tell the difference. The new Daytons sound like they are playing through a cave...

Looking for new headset and speakers

Congrats on your recent build manwich. I was following your thread in the General Hardware section and you look like you have a very nice rig (I am jealous :D ). The build caught my eye since a friend of mine was building a very similar system to yours, also for video editing. Regarding the...

Thanks for the heads up. I was able to order one from Amazon during the price match at $69.99. They are temporarily out of stock but mine will ship on the 20th which is fine by me (I am in no rush). Hope they don't cancel the order.

Thanks for the correction. The Technics turntable brings back memories. I had an SL-B1 turntable that I bought when I was in high school. It was my first TT purchase back then using my own money (the previous Dual turntable was a hand me down from my dad) and it was one of the early direct...

Wow you have some nice stuff! Laserdisks were so cool looking when they first came out. Now people don't even use DVDs anymore but download the movies. Times change. I still recall our first VHS when they came out. It was this gigantic RCA thing with some digital clock like thing stuck to...

When Carver made the holographic sound technology, surround sound was not really a mainstream thing even in theaters. I don't think it was really ever made to work with video. The purpose of the holographic sound was to mimic a concert hall environment in your listening room. The rear speaker...

Intel i7-3770k $249.99 @ Best Buy (price matched)

It does seem a bit overstated to me as well. The act of cherry picking lower performance chips is almost as costing as cherry picking higher performance chips. There would be no reason Intel would do this just to spite BB. There is no profit from doing this rather than just giving them...

Wow a Sunfire Theater Grand. Nice! I remember when Bob Carver had his sonic holography technology with the products of his previous company Carver. The guy made some amazing tech back in the Phase Linear days, through Carver and now at Sunfire. Wish I could afford to buy his equipment. But...

    Best bookshelf speakers for ~$150?

Wow I haven't been looking at SVS speakers for awhile and during that time they came out with an affordable set. Those look pretty nice. Kind of looks like the Super Zeros that NHT sells. Edit: Hmm looking at the specs they have 6" woofers. So they are bigger than the super zeros I think...

Anyone else love their old case?

May not be considered an old case but my Rosewill TU-155 was the first case I ever purchased when I started building my own computer. That was back in 2005. I have modded it a bit so that it would stay up with the times and though old (I still use a 92 mm fan out the back and a 80mm fan on the...

been awhile since.. "look what i dragged home" audio gear thread, enjoy or don't

LOL, I don't know what you're complaining about with your Denon purchase. Oh and a SR7200 for $115 is an amazing steal. With the prices people are quoting here, there is very little risk in the usual "stay away from used speakers... etc." statements, since if its bad...you only lost like...

    ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Motherboard Review @ [H]

Agreed, the PCB is thin, but not unreasonably so. So long as you don't go using the mobo as a lever, dust scoop, physical workout apparatus, cooking utensil, etc, or go breakdancing while building the rig, I found it strong enough not to be a problem during installation. Also, I do not see any...

Best Bookshelf/Sub Pair for home PC

Wow those Mordaut Short Carnival 1's look very nice. I remember thinking about getting a pair of Mordaunt speakers (the Aviano 2) when shopping around. Read that they were nice speakers for the price (especially at A4L). Ended up getting the Dayton RS kit and really like them, but whenever I...

    ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Motherboard Review @ [H]

Not sure about anyone else but I really like the AsRock Z77 Extreme4. Also got mine on Black Friday for about $245 ($169 for the CPU, $65 after combo deal for the mobo). I've owned ASUS, Gigabyte, Biostar, Foxconn, and MSI in the past so I really don't have a preference regarding brand. All I...
