Another Ratpadz thread to watch! Got mine from the 2011 [H] show in Dallas. There was a tall stack of them and I got two. Shoulda grabbed the lot and bolted.

Is this UPS dead or is it just the batteries?

When the UPS is fully charged and you pull the power cable, does the connected gear stay on? If it doesn't the battery is no more. I got four years out of my last UPS, and it powered a 4bay NAS, router, modem and switch. (850VA) It was a Cyberpower too, and I couldn't locate a replacement...

Cowboy Beebop live action at Netflix!

Haven't watched Macross, but I have almost all of her CB and GiTS:SAC discography. The NBebop soundtrack lines up pretty well with the 98' stuff. There are some new versions of the 98' themes. The new stuff is good but a some of it is short cues and brief themes.

Cowboy Beebop live action at Netflix!

There is a lot to like. I'm happy with the principal actors. It's obvious they get the characters, even if the writers don't. And the visual aesthetic / look is better than I expected from an anime that's so visually distinctive. My three lingering complaints with Netflix Bebop- Viscous and...

Cowboy Beebop live action at Netflix!

Half way through. Like it a lot so far. Feel the prinicpal cast is perfect. Art direction and music are really nice. And it's a blast to be in Yoko Kanno's space again. The original music is pretty good. The rest is callbacks to 98'. But I'm at odds with the new series re-telling the stories...

Cowboy Beebop live action at Netflix!

One of my framed vinyls is Symphonic Suite Yamato, complete with OBI. I grew up on Star Blazers in the early 80s. (in a lot of ways I was crazier for it than SW/ST) But it wasn't until the late 90s that I discovered SBY and started collecting the BGMs. When they rebooted in 2012 with SBY2199...

Cowboy Beebop live action at Netflix!

My Anime Soundtrack collection is literally 75% Yoko Kanno. (GitS:SAC and Bebop) the rest is HIroshi/Akira Miyagawa (Space Battleship Yamato/ SBY2199)

Cowboy Beebop live action at Netflix!

I'm glad she's only re-using 10% of the 1998 score. The promos have been recycling the original so much I was afraid there was no new music. But to be honest, I haven't heard any of Kanno's younger stuff since Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society. (2006) If you've ever watched DVD extras of...

Cowboy Beebop live action at Netflix!

There are scads of female manga artists that draw proportional girls w/o the "male gaze" attributes and the peculiar camera positions. And a lot of those are produced anime OVAs. "Almost all Japanese animation is produced with hardly any basis from observing real people. you know. It's produced...

Anyone here collect classic/vintage PC games?

I had B-1 Nuclear Bomber--- on cassette for the Atari 8-bit (400/800/1200XL) I remember adding lines in BASIC to play synth music for certain text events. (it was a text-based game, but inspired by the bomber scenes from Dr. Strangelove) So my B-1NB played Johnny Comes Marching Home. Think my...

Cowboy Beebop live action at Netflix!

I've known people that dismiss all animated media. It's all cartoons to them, and isn't considered entertainment media for adults; even though there's been prime-time general audience animated media for over fifty years. And people in general have always turned a cocked eye at anime fans for as...

What game have you logged the most hours on?

Fah. Achievements are for babies. I don't play TF2 for achievements, hats, loot or memes. Everytime someone asks me for help on an achievement- I send them to dank corner of the map and send the spies there.

Steam Deck officially announced by Valve

There are titles in my library approaching 20 years old. There are games over ten years old that I still play. And I also have a lot of DOS/Win95 games that I've repurchased via Steam. If Steam Deck can handle all of those, even I'll buy one- and I'm not a platform/console/handheld gamer. But...

What game have you logged the most hours on?

Seven more years, another 3000 hrs. If I'm still playing this damn game in 2028, some one's gotta put me out of my misery, Cochise-style like One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest.

What do you mostly play? Single or Multiplayer games?

I've been playing with the same people for almost ten years. But there are far fewer "purists" that play the objective now since casual matchmaking arose and community servers were eradicated. My team has it's shit together. The others couldn't give 2Fs. It's worse than playing with randos...

What is your "coping" strategy for the time until you can get a latest-model Nvidia/AMD GPU?

Sorry to hear man. Hope you didn't lose any data or valuable gamesaves or configs. At least you have a backup. Stories like this make my eyes wander to those pre-built Walmart/BestBuy gaming shitboxes.:nailbiting:

What do you mostly play? Single or Multiplayer games?

The gaming community (in my neck of the woods) has become less about "playing the game's objective" and more about griefing, trolling and "casual/fuckin' around" gameplay. A generation of gamers is being graded not on how well they play- but the size of the trolls and lols. It's not just hacks...

What do you mostly play? Single or Multiplayer games?

Mostly multiplayer- but there's a group that I play with almost exclusively. (maybe less than <10% solo with randoms) Mass Effect LE was the first SP game I've purchased in over two years.

What is your "coping" strategy for the time until you can get a latest-model Nvidia/AMD GPU?

Playing 1080p games. Still on a GTX 970 on an 1080p ultrawide monitor. But the i7 3770 system that's running it is very long in the tooth. 10 y.o. next year- the longest I've used any build. (I had postponed upgrades to build a NAS four years ago) But I didn't want to build a new system with a...

Do Lan Parties happen any more?

There were power issues at the last two LANs I tried going to- and that was 6-7 years ago. Didn't take much to pop the breakers. The last real LAN I did was HardOCP's in Dallas 2008/2009? Wasn't quite QuakeCon... but close enuff to say I did it.

Epic losing massive amounts of money in the battle vs Steam

I came close to jumping in EGS just to get Rebel Galaxy Outlaw. But there was nothing else on the EGS platform I was remotely interested in. So I waited a year, and RGO made it on Steam in Sept 2020. And it turned out the was game was mostly meh. It wasn't the Space Sim mecca it was marketed to...

Epic Games' next headquarters will replace a local shopping mall

The '95 OKC bombing saved one of my city's fading shopping malls. Social Security Admin and a few state/fed offices moved in, and they've been there ever since. The space is now 90% occupied, over 4000 employees. (compared to 30% occupied pre-1995)

Golden age of PC gaming...I was 18 in 1993

I loathed the FMV craze in 90s computer games. Videocutscenes out the ass in every game from 1991-1998. There are a few notable moments when FMV was awesome as a story tool (Mechwarrior 2's intro, I-War's 18 minute opening scene, Interstate 76's "TV episode" style) But the rest was rubbish...

Golden age of PC gaming...I was 18 in 1993

I was 25 in 1993- which also marked my entry into PC gaming after a decade of 8 bit computer games. I finally figured out that console software wasn't cutting it for me. SNES was the last console system I owned. (The last SNES game was a very bad port of Wing Commander) The switch to PC was...

I'm thinking that it's set that way (stick forward-->pitch up) to appease FPS players, where the convention is mouse forward-->tilt up. Star Wars: Squadrons

Don't have a VR headset, but I remember the virtual cockpits and padlock view from X-Wing Alliance. Only two fighters have what I'd call great cockpit visibility, the X-Wing and the A-Wing. The other six fighters have lousy visibility- the TIEs and Y-Wing have almost no vertical visibility, and...
