Plan to build my home Nas based on FreeNas. But I found, for many reasons, I'd better install FreeNas to a hard drive instead of running FreeNAS from a USB key as intended. Is it possible and how?
Thank you for your thoughts and inputs.
A friend of mine just suggested that I should buy a Lian Li PC-Q25 ITX PC Case that he said it must be good for my new nas and it's hot-swappable. I really don't know if a home Freenas/ Free4nas would benefit from "hot-swappable" and, if possilbe, what kind of mITX mobo should I buy? Or any...
Recently, when SSD drives turn cheaper, people are changing their minds and decide to buy more SSD drives for their PCs.
So, if you're on the fence to buy a new SSD drive, which one should you think about first (please don't mention the price - just talk about technology)?
Brandname?
MLC or...
Looked around but couldn't see it stated. Sorry if it reposts.
I was told setting the Jumbo Frame will improve the performance speed between NAS and PCs. Well, I tried it last night and failed miserably! I enabled Jumbo Frame and set it to 9000 on my Synology NAS, then I went into my Intel...
Need to be clear from beggining.
Do not discuss about Unix, Linux OS alike
Do not discuss about the price
Just focus on tech issues. :D

My server is sitting on Windows OS and I know unRaid has a very useful tool to check/ detect defects of new/ used HDDs. It's Pre-clear.
I'm curious if Flexraid/ SnapRaid also has the same tool or I have to use traditional HD Tune Pro to check my HDDs before I add to them to the array?
Thank...
Did search around the forum and found this one, but it's too old. Time flies fast and things have been changed and I think both FlexRaid and SnapRaid become more mature now. In the events more and more people are planning and building their own media servers at home, I think it's good time to...
I know some of you guys here now running SnapRaid on your home servers. Hope you know it. :D
One of the best feature that I love Flexraid is the ability to span DRU (data) drive. It allows a user to assemble several drives to make 1 DRU especially when your system is made of drives of very...
