First of all, OCZs aren't very good PSUs (for the most part, at least) so I'd rule that one out.
You should be able to run 2 GTX285s on that PSU (assuming 175w per card + 125w for the CPU & 75w for everything else) but it would be closer than I would like to run for a long-term period of time...
Well, I think that from their experience you'd be very happy with them :)
I must say I'm quite happy with my GTS450, I OCed it to 925/1850 (stock mem ATM) instantly, and it's been rock stable so far. Pulls between 8 and 14k PPD in FAH (611 & 9XX PT WUs, respectively)
Go for a 1GB GTX460. It'll smoke a GTS450, your 9800GTX+, a HD5770, it's a bit faster than a HD5830 and about on par with a GTX465 (and runs cooler & uses far less power).
IMO the GTX460 is the mid-range king ATM, cool, quiet, low power usage, and very good performance for not a lot of money
That would certainly be nice...if there was one for that price BR I would have snatched it up instantly.
But I can't imagine that happening for a while :(
$130. Cheapest GTS450 on NE without a MIR, decided that I would rather get something that's $130 without a rebate than something that's $140 and hoping for a $20 MIR.
@ Staypuft: BR? And thank you for your helpful & constructive comments :)
If the perf/$ is the same as a GTX460 that's amazing!!!
Really a shame that I couldn't have gone with a GTX460, but that wasn't going to be possible, and I always have the option of SLI down the road for a very reasonable price
:(
Well, it does what I need. I haven't ever run into issues with only a limited amount of RAM (with what I normally do, memory usage doesn't go much above 1GB). And I have the i7 OCed because I run WCG, and the SSD because after reading how fast they were, I decided that it would be a good...
Well it's a shame that it's going to be that much slower, most of the reviews I found placed the TOP version (I'm hopeful that I'll be able to get TOP clocks) right around the HD5770, which is right around my GTX260. I guess I'll see when it gets here, and I guess I could always get a 2nd...
How much slower is it than a GTX260? And when OCed is it roughly the same? I have a 192SP GTX260 that, even OCed, is about on par with a standard GTX260, it came from Dell with lower-than-stock clocks :(
I looked at GTX460s, but I couldn't find one, except for EVGA's B-Stock one w/ a 90 day warranty, for under $150 shipped before rebate. I really would have liked to get a GTX460 768MB (after rebate, there was a Zotac one for $145), but I couldn't go over $150 BR. Parental restrictions :(
And...
So I just got an Asus GTS450 DirectCU as a replacement for my dying GTX260. Was this a good choice for the price? I really, really don't like ATI and all I had to spend was $150 before rebate.
What sort of clocks should I be able to get (OVing perfectly acceptable)?
Damn.....that PSU extender is expensive :(
That sucks :(
What with the cost of the extender and a fan adapter, it might just be better to get a Q08 :o
But if I do get the Q11 and get it working, I'll deffo get lots of pics :)
Awesome :)
I'm considering downsizing my sig rig to a PC-Q11 and a H55N, and if I do I would definitely use my H50 (stock is lame and nothing else would really fit).
Good to know!
The stock X4 HSFs are actually quite decent......they would make a good option for a 45w CPU. The PhII X2 ones, less so, because the don't have heat pipes, but still would probably be better
I won't claim to be as knowledgeable about SFF systems as bastage, but if you're willing to sacrifice one of the HDD cages, a Corsair H50 or H70 should work nicely :)
So what do you guys think? i3 or X2? Or just downsize my i7 to one of the Lian Li ITX cases? It would certainly be faster than an i3, but also far bigger (not really sure if this is too much of a con)
What do you guys think about this board? Are the temps reasonable? How does the WiFi work? Any major or notable issues with it? Does the onboard WiFi work in Linux?
I'm considering this and an i3 530 in an Antec ISK 300-series case to build a low-power daily-use PC.
I'll look on CL and see what I can find :)
If I do go for a 45w X2 and that Asus board, would I be OK with the 65w ISK or would I want the 150w version?
And wouldn't an i3 potentially make more sense than an X2 @ the same price? I'd assume it would be a decent bit faster
I really don't want to spend that much. Yes, it would be nicer than the Celeron, but it's over $100 more, and I'm not convinced I need the extra speed. I'll look around and see how I can get the price down, but the $350 figure was really the absolute max, and I'd like it to be less than that...
Sorry about the confusion. I'm probably going to run Ubuntu x64 (either 10.04 or 10.10) and then Win7 Pro x64. Ubuntu for most things and the Win if I want to game a bit.
I have considered an ION, but as I said, the Celeron setup I had was only a few bucks more, and would definitely be far...
H55 + i3 is a bit on the expensive side IMO :(
Although I might get one. I priced out a Zotac ION, it was only like ~$20 less than the Celeron setup
I'm not really worried about HTPC use, I'm just planning on using this for daily use, and maybe Halo 1.
According to XBit, the Celeron 3300 is...
Hmm. I mainly play Halo 1 anyways, do you think a GT220 would be fine for that and the other games listed? I could do without H2 without too much trouble
