Hi guys,
just completed a build last night with the MSI P67A-GD65 board and for some reason when it boots I don't see the bios post screen, just a black screen with 99 at the bottom, then the marvell chip boot screen and windows starting up. I cant get into the bios due to this. Anyone else...
Thanks for the feedback. My first time with using an SSD, any pointers/links on setting up the page file?
I went with 4Gb as I don't believe my current system ever used more than that at a given time. I dont have multiple applications open at the same time, etc. Any good reasons for going with 8?

Any issues with using "green" drives for this system?
My MB has the following PCI slots

3x PCI Slots

Guys,
I would like to build a WHS based server for my desktop PC and HTPC systems based on the Norco 4020. Could someone please suggest what motherboard, power supply and SATA controller cards I should buy?
Also, is the Norco 4020 good enough or have they released something better...
ok i was able to make myself a bootable dvd
1. install ultraiso
2. launch ultraiso and extract the boot image from a win7 dvd, you can use the RTM iso or a beta version. See the help section in ultraiso on how to do this.
3. From the file menu in ultraiso select a new bootable dvd/cd...
Im getting the same error wrangler!!
I went into the decompressed files folder and dbl clicked setup.exe, it's giving an error saying
The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows youre running. Check your computers system information....whether you need an x86 or x64...
maybe I posted too soon, the information for the USB tool only mentions that it puts the ISO file on a bootable USB or DVD disc, nothing about the compressed files.
My download completed, the exe file is a decompressor and it is currently decompressing the 3.3GB files...
Ok I did some more digging around and found this link
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows
which states
In some countries or regions, if you purchase and download Windows 7 online from the Microsoft Store, you can download a tool from Microsoft that...
I see what they say in the liner notes and on their website BUT if the install file is not an ISO how are you supposed to install it? The instructions clearly say click the EXE file to start install which means an OS needs to be present...
Once the EXE is launched it may give you the option...
im downloading it as I type this.
One thing mentioned in the email is
When the download of the Windows 7 files are complete, start the installation of Windows 7 by clicking on the file that has the extension '.exe.'
WTF! If it's an exe install how are you supposed to install this on a system...
guys,
Can this version of Windows, obtained via Student pricing, be used to install on a brand new computer or am I going to have to install windows xp or vista on it first?
Thanks
Hi guys,
My 1.5TB drive is making clicking noises and is really really slow to work with. I bought a new 500GB drive, is there any free software that will allow me to copy all the files off the 1.5TB drive (actual data on this drive is less than 200GBs) onto the 500GB drive so I can then boot...
Hi Guys,
I was planning on buying Vista Ultimate from Newegg, the OEM version for $189 and they claim that I get a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it's released. Is this true? If so, isn't this a cheaper way of getting Windows 7 ultimate? Are there any gotchas? Just want to make sure before I...
I've read in forums of people OC'ing the 8500 on the p5w as well, just doesnt work for me. If I use the boards % overclocking feature I can get to +5% OC but that's it.
I can't get anywhere on my p5w, maybe its the first rev of the board or something but changing the fsb by even 5mhz and rebooting results in no-POST and I have to clear the cmos. And I've done everything per the c2d guides, set pci-e to 100, pci to 33, voltages to the right values, etc etc.
thanks guys.
By the way. Will I see a noticeable gain in speed moving from the 8500 on the pf2 dh running 2gigs of PC6400 ram to one of the above boards with the faster ram they support?
Hi folks,
I am currently running a E8500 on an Asus P5W DH Deluxe board. Looking to upgrade to a different board with a newer chipset. Looking at all the different offerings on Newegg I am confused by all the diff chipsets etc. What is a recommended C2D board for running a E8500 proc with an...
Folks,
Just installed a E8500 C2D proc in my system (ASUS P5W DH Deluxe), running the latest BIOS and G.Skill PC6400 DDR RAM. The BIOS reports the proc bus freq as 333MHZ and the memory runs at PC5300. If I try and manually set the RAM to 800Mhz it doesn't show me that option, only 6xxMhz and...
I don't game much, mostly use the rig for programming, downloading, encoding etc. I read that most games seem to run better on the C2D platform, but that's not a big issue for me.
Hi guys,
My current system is a core2duo 600 + Asus P5W DH Deluxe combo. Was wondering what the performance increase would be if I jumped to an i7 based system, i.e. Gigabyte EX58-UD5 + i7 920. Would it be a noticeable increase?
I haven't been keeping up to date on chipsets and...
Hi Guys,
I have Vista Ultimate 32bit and recently installed SP1 RC1. A few days ago I installed a hard drive and had to reset my BIOS to get things to run. On reboot I set the date to Jan 6 2007 instead of 8 and booted to the windows desktop. I realized the error when Kaspersky warned me of...
are you using this enclosure? I already have an esata port on my motherboard...do I need to use their controller?
Also what Raid mode do you have to use to just have the disks show up as 1, is that JBOD? in that case, if one disk fails do I loose data on all the disks?
Guys,
I need an enclosure with cooling fan that can hold up to 4 drives. I plan on installing 4x 750GB drives in this enclosure and then connect it to my HTPC via Firewire/USB or eSATA depending on what the enclosure offers.
I do not plan on using RAID and if the drives show up as 4...
Again, if your SATA controller allows you to enable AHCI in the BIOS your drive will be hot swappable and will show up in the Safely Remove Devices list.
