Once you get the drive how do you tell which one it is?? I guess I really shouldn't worry about it too much since there will be no real demand for absolute speed with this computer but I am just curious now.
Not really looking for the overclocking performance aspect of things, more of the stability side than anything. I want something that is going to be reliable and last for a number of years as I know my dad won't be buying another computer in the near future. Just remember, this is going to be...
Is the Biostar board that I linked to a good board or is there something else that I should look at in the comparative price range? I think that I am pretty much set on everything else...
EDIT:
THIS one better for a few dollars more??
Would a 780G mobo be better than the 780V with around the same price point? Is the AM2+ CPU any better than the regular AM2?
Just trying to weigh my options here yet. Any other build ideas would still be great too. I have really been out of the loop as of lately especially with the AMD...
Thanks for your help and suggestions..... I greatly appreciate them.
Got any suggestions on the Intel side? Just mobo and cpu...
Anyone else wanna try at this?? Just want more options to try...
Well it has been a long time since I have tried to keep up on the latest and greatest.... but I am not even looking for that here. My dad called me up this morning and wants me to build a new computer for his g/f. Right now she is running something OLD (P3 1Ghz) and he just gets frustrated...
I am looking for a PSU to run a P4 rig for now but want something that will be able to run something newer in the near future. I am not going to need a ton of power as this computer is going to be for my daughter and there is no need of high-end high-power components for her to play web games...
Will test the RAM and use a different CD. Will report back later.
After a complete visual inspection, there are no bulging or leaking caps to speak of.
Here are the system specs:
Asus P4P800 Deluxe
P4 3.0C w/ stock cooler
1GB (2*512mb) Kingston HyperX PC4000
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro...
Image 1.1 (Windows Setup) screen is as far as I get. I never make it to Image 1.2 (Welcome to Setup) never appears. It goes black after it is done loading all of the files in Image 1.1.
Nope it doesn't get to the "Install, Repair, Recovery Console" screen. I do have another disk that I could try. I haven't tried as of yet but I am planning on it very soon here.
This is my dad's computer. This all started when he was having problems one night with his AT&T/Yahoo DSL and called their tech support service. He couldn't log into his Yahoo Messenger and called them about the password or something. They had him change a bunch of stuff and go into his DSL...
I am gonna post here cuz I am interested in what others would have to say. I am also on the same boat as you OP.
Current setup: Abit IB9 P965 / E4300 @ 3.0Ghz / ATI X1950Pro
Looking at: P45 (Possibly Asus) / E8400 / either a 4850 or 4870
just bring the coupon and receipt back to the store and they will do a price match. I just did it yesterday. I brought the card with me incase they wanted to return and re-buy but all they did was price match it and gave me $13.72 back.
I am looking to piece together a new system for my daughter and I was wondering how the newer integrated graphics chipsets would do with some gaming. Now I am not talking hardcore gaming like Crysis but she is 9y/o and plays some games on the net and others that she has on CD. Would the newer...
Ok, so your bitching from the customer service point-of-view. That is completely understandable as I have done alot of customer service work. Most people are a pain-in-the-a$$ to deal with at times.
I just cannot stand the rest of the people that like to bitch for the purpose of bitching...
Any possibility of a deal on this case:
Antec New Solution NSK2480 Black/Silver 0.8mm cold-rolled steel MicroATX Desktop Computer Case 380W Power Supply - Retail
Atleast free shipping? I have found it for cheaper w/ shipping but would like to place my entire order with Newegg.com, cuz...
Is there a minimum of a 30lbs order to ship from performancepc.com? That is flippin ridiculous that they want to charge for 30lbs of shipping weight for an aluminum side panel with a piece of plexi in it. There is no way that the side panel weighs that much. I checked out the prices for the...
Thanks for the heads up but a 60+ mile round trip with gas at $3.60/gal to possibly find out that it isn't $189..... meh that is a [H]ard decision, prolly not worth it in the end.
Damnit..... no deal like that around here. I just called up 2 stores that are about 30mins from me since the local one showed it had none. I was quoted at $260ea at both stores.
I am looking for some help in setting up 2 computers for about $300-$400 each. Neither one of them needs to be spectacular in terms of performance or power. Both of them will be used for web surfing, email checking, and other simple tasks. No gaming will be done on either of them. These 2...
Just got mine today..... last one in the store @ $47.99.
Woohoo.... now what do I do with it? I still got my rig stuffed in a Glossy Silver Chieftech that has a side window. I think that I might wait until May 16th for my stimulus check to build something new.
Thanks for the response. I was still searching even after I posted this thread and I came up with this:

How true the spec facts are on there..... I don't know. All I know is that I want to be able to find a CPU that is going to be KNOWN...
My dad's g/f's kids computer crashed. Supposedly the heatsink fell off the CPU all together but I dunno bout that. My dad put it back together and it still wouldn't boot, so he brought it to me. I decided to dismantle the entire thing and blow it out to clean it up. While I was cleaning the...
ugh..... I got it figured out. There was a "personal firewall" attached to my anti-virus prog that I didn't know about. I turned that off and everything showed up right away.
Thanks for trying to help.
I believe that I have the sharing setup correctly. I can get access to the other 2 computers by the method you described but no other way.
No domain. Same workgroup. See above for sharing info.
I am trying to get my laptop onto my home network wirelessly. I already have a wired and wireless desktop computer that work fine together but this laptop is being a PITA. The laptop will not show up on either of the 2 desktops and only the laptops shared folders show up on it. I have all 3...
As long as it is backwards compatible then it should work. Your motherboard only has SATA150 on it and that is a SATA300 drive. Most drives will be backwards compatible but I would check on that just to make sure.
Holy shit i got one of those sitting right next to me on my desk....... I'll sell it to someone for 1/2 price!
WTF is Dell thinking?
SHIT EDIT: Manufacturer Part# : WD400JB-20PK
It is a 20PK of these drives. They come out to about $48.99ea.
