Gigabyte GTX 970 Mini-ITX (and discussion for other small 970 cards)..

I'm considering this card, and I plan on getting a Corsair 250D. It seems that the full size Gigabyte card will fit though? So, is this ITX not necessary in the 250D? What do I gain?

GTX 760 Pricing post 960 launch?

Hey All, It's been YEARS since I built my last desktop (yes, the rig in my sig is still accurate), and I'm trying to build a sub $1,000 rig ($800 would be great, but need SSDs/microITX etc). I don't do too much gaming (and I run at 1080p) anymore, but I want to be able to have the option...

Asus 750Ti OC ... Tonight we will know what it means to a miner

Mining with a GPU is already pretty pointless. The difficulty has increased too much and now ASIC farms dominate. Most people actually lose money farming, because it increases your electricity bill than you actually earn mining.

Building my first box (must be cheap, small, quiet): some general questions

Thanks for the great feedback everyone, I'm still fiddling around with my build though as I wanted to keep it in the $600 range. Maybe it's just not time to build it yet though, but I was seduced by Hyperthreading on the E3-1230v2, instead of the E3-1220v2, so that bumped the build up $60 alone...

Building my first box (must be cheap, small, quiet): some general questions

First of all, the purpose of my lab is mostly for spinning up linux boxes, virtual routers and firewalls (and maybe some W2k12 DCs). My priority is not to learn and test all that the VMware eco-system has to offer, although, maybe one day I would like to do that. This is for misc labbing, and...

Your home ESX server lab hardware specs?

only if you consider built-in backdoors on security appliances "cool stuff" ;) But it is neat you get to have all them talking in a lab environment.

Your home ESX server lab hardware specs?

What "next gen" Firewalls are you running? I've been using some checkpoint virtual firewalls on EC2, but I'm curious of what you're running in a VMWare environment.

Client can reach VMs, but can't connect to physical hypervisors

Thanks. Although it's not so much remote management. Both the ESXi boxes and the client are behind the Firewall on their LAN segment. The Virtual Networks are just virtual LAN interfaces on my firewall. So essentially, It's a LAN -> LAN connection, which my firewall (and every firewall I know...

Client can reach VMs, but can't connect to physical hypervisors

Okay, I'm not a virtualization guy--but I know the basic concepts and I use VMware Workstation often. I'm a security/firewall/networking guy. I'm implementing a new firewall for a client, and after a complete review of his existing architecture, on the go live date he springs on me "oh I have...

Router interferring with gigabit network speeds on LAN

Well it's about time I ditch my 8800GT, it's served me well for a few years. Right now an XFX 6870 is $190 on NewEgg. And incredible deal. However, since I have an E8400 as my CPU, is it even worth going that high end? I was going to go with a GTX-460 until these AMD price drops. But now...

Best ~24" monitor for digital photography/photoshop

Thanks for the response. I guess I should have specified that I myself own a U2311h. For some reason, I thought the U24xxx was a step above in terms of picture quality? I know they are different aspect ratios, but to cost $200-300 more, surely there has to be a difference in terms of...

Best ~24" monitor for digital photography/photoshop

Damn, maybe I shouldn't have said 'best' then. In about the ~$500 range, I was looking. I guess they don't make a 24" Apple Cinema display anymore either. So it looks like it's going to be the 24" Dell Ultrasharp, unless another suggestion comes up?

Best ~24" monitor for digital photography/photoshop

I'm looking to get my father a real nice monitor for Christmas, he is a serious digital photographer, however, his monitor makes me weep. It's some 7 year old Dell 19" TN panel i believe. For the amount of money he spends on cameras and lens (and photoshop) I really think he should have a...

Cisco routers for home production use?

I didn't say you should be replacing anything. Refer to my above post, almost everything you listed is available on the SonicWALL--minus the WAN features and Cisco proprietary stuff. Which is fine. I love Cisco stuff too--I'm not a SonicWALL fan point by. My only point was to the original...

Cisco routers for home production use?

SonicWALL does all of that. DMVPN is not something you see on a single router, in the SonicWALL world those are considered 'interconnected' tunnels. BGP is a WAN routing protocol, which is nothing I would use a Firewall for nor does the original poster need--and it boggles my mind that it's a...

Cisco routers for home production use?

Fifth Generation TZ-series (100 and 210) are quite nice. That's an overview of features. They do many, many other things not listed. What are your specific concerns? They have great support for SIP and QoS as well, which I saw you mention before. It just seems you're being extremely general...

Cisco routers for home production use?

Like what out of curiousity? In fact, I know many things the SonicWALL can do that the 3725 can't...but all depends what you're using it for. SSL-VPNs, DPI Stateless Inspection, even on SSL connections these days are some features the 3725 wouldn't have. Not to mention the low end model I...

Cisco routers for home production use?

There are much better and modern solutions you can get instead of using a 2621xm router. And this is coming from a CCNP who has a rack with 5x 2610XMs. If you want advanced and modern networking capabilities for your home, look no further than say a SonicWALL TZ-100. There is NO reason to have...

Factory OC'd cards worth it? (GTX 460)

Well like most people, i'm looking into purchasing a 460 1gb. Now, for example, eVGA has their superclocked cards straight from the factory. This is basically just giving me an OCed from the factory that is under warranty, right? Technically, I should be able to OC a stock GTX460 to the same...

    Dell U2311H

I'm actually (thinking) about upgrading from a 2005fpw as well. The pixels are that much larger? I was thinking it would be more clear, due to the 1920 resolution. But I guess 3 more inches of screen really offsets that?

I was about to order a 2410, glad I saw this. The 2410 i a better monitor on paper it seems, but this seems like the better deal to me. Unlike most people, I don't care about the 16:9, in fact, I kinda prefer it, I do a lot of watching of Blu-rays etc.
