Bought a pair of JBL LSR305s - Constant hiss

I'm more liberal in my speaker views. For instance, "hi-fI" has taken on a negative connotation with a lot of enthusiasts. Not sure why, hi-fi speakers (by definition) are simply speakers that strive for accuracy and distortion free sound; like a "good" studio monitor is supposed to. Yet, if you...

Bought a pair of JBL LSR305s - Constant hiss

No, from what I recall, better powered speakers follow something more akin to bi-wiring setup internally. Each driver draws its power from a single source (amp) with the drivers being wired to that amp. I know these aren't bi-amped. LOL. I was more specifically putting emphasis on the...

Bought a pair of JBL LSR305s - Constant hiss

You consider labeling the JBL' louder and calling the Vanatoo' "premium multimedia speakers" a swipe? LOL. They drain less power due to having only one amp, are easier to connect and make a better addition to a desk than the larger JBL's. That's the swipe you're referencing to? I'm not...

Bought a pair of JBL LSR305s - Constant hiss

Exactly, which is why I usually recommend people audition their speakers before blindly purchasing them. Good article on the last part: http://www.audioholics.com/frequent-questions/the-difference-between-biamping-vs-biwiring

Bought a pair of JBL LSR305s - Constant hiss

You seem slightly defensive. I'm not bashing the Vanatoo' at all. All I said is the JBL' are the louder speaker, and this isn't based on theory. The JBL' put out more power and SPL (95 for the Vanatoo vs 108 for the JBL'). This is a good read...

Bought a pair of JBL LSR305s - Constant hiss

The Vanatoo' are definitely more oriented towards casual listening at the desk. The JBL' (while simple to hook up: all you need is a TRS splitter cable to 3.5mm), will reflect what they're connected to. A cheap, low quality on-board vs DAC/soundcard, etc. The JBL' also put out more volume and...

That's crazy. LOL. I would have returned them too.

Bought a pair of JBL LSR305s - Constant hiss

I can understand how it can be irritating for some, but I've slept with the speakers on (usually a mistake) and the computer off. I've never really noticed, and I'm an irritable sleeper with the speakers next to my bed. My room is pretty quiet, too. From the descriptions provided, people are...

Bought a pair of JBL LSR305s - Constant hiss

I see these topics about extreme hiss and the LSR305 pop up now and then, but, honestly, I've never had an issue. Owned them almost two years now. I can only hear a hiss if my ear is right next to the speaker (maybe 5-8 inches). I imagine I can hear pretty well, too. LOL. My computer makes more...

    ASUS Announces Strix Sound Cards

I know my Xonar DG was $15 (refurbished) and it definitely sounds better than the crap that came with the motherboard (Realtek ALC800 something). The speakers (LSR305) were noticeably more boomy with recessed mids using the onboard. The Xonar was clearer and less boomy right out of the box; no...

    Whining from speakers with LSR305

My 305' came with free isolation pads when I bought a pair from American musical supply. They also came with a free volume controller. I have them about 17-18 inches from the wall and angled towards my ears.

    Fable Legends DX12 benchmark

I almost bought an MSI 390 when it came out, but I saw an EVGA SC 980 GTX at Microcenter for $360, open box. First Nvidia card in almost 6 years. LOL. Even the 980 TI is out selling it.

    Fable Legends DX12 benchmark

No, it is a word. Just a word that possesses a double negative. When used (mostly incorrectly) it irks the obsessively grammar conscious. I have a bad habit of using it sometimes. I think I like the way it sounds for some reason. There you go.

    Fable Legends DX12 benchmark

Name brand sells, unfortunately. The closest selling (aside from adapters), equivalent AMD card on Amazon is the 390 MSI, and it's at spot 20. It also appears Nvidia is gearing up to dump out Pascal. Most consumers aren't even knowledgeable of these benches. It's mostly fodder for diehard fans...

You mean AMD? Doubtful. I predict Nvidia will continue to outsell them. Irregardless of these benches. I honestly don't see this changing much of anything.

    Whining from speakers with LSR305

Yes, cause they sound better than most competitively priced PC speakers, are usually more reliable (better construction) with better warranties; are typically easy to hook up and usually don't cause headaches. Monitors are also usually bi or tri amped. Most studio monitors "hum", since...

Best PC Speakers for gaming $100, not much space

They're pretty bassy, particularly since most of the power comes from the sub. They're good for a $100 though. I'd rather have something like this though...

EVGA GTX 980 - $236.54 for Price Matching ONLY

EVGA GTX 980 - $236.54 for Price Matching ONLY

I don't think a man in his 70' needed a $1,300 computer; particularly with a dedicated GPU. I doubt he's a hard-core gamer. LOL. He will probably just use it to browse the web and read emails. If he has grandkids, they'll likely use it; but it's only a matter time before it catches a virus...

EVGA GTX 980 - $236.54 for Price Matching ONLY

LOL. Too bad you don't have an office depot. I tempted to try this, but by the time I get "time" to do so, it'll probably be dead; or they'll have caught on. Edit: The Asus reference card page still exist, but when one searches it can no longer be found.

EVGA GTX 980 - $236.54 for Price Matching ONLY

Too bad they don't have any at my local stores. I'd run this open-box Evga SC right back. Something tells me this deal/price-match won't go so smoothly with Best Buy. Meh.....I'll live. Speaking of which, I was kinda shocked they gave me a rebate for the card.

EVGA GTX 980 - $236.54 for Price Matching ONLY

Sad over this, I just reserved an open-box Evga 980 ACX SSC 2.0 for $360 (including taxes) from my local Micro Center. Impulse buy? I'm thinking it's too cheap/too good to be true. Thing will probably BSOD as soon as I pop it in.

ASUS STRIX R9 Fury DC3 Video Card Review @ [H]

XFX R9 390X Double Dissipation Review

The thing I don't understand is the wild difference, in regards to power consumption, of the MSI 390x card when one compares the Guru3d and Techpowerup review. Tweaktown has slightly similar results to Techpowerup (though not as extreme). I have to chalk it to testing methodology.
