Fiber Switch options for VNX 5100

We use the MDS where I am at now for our Symmetrix and VNX lines. However, I used Brocade when we used Netapp and HP/3Par at my previous place. Personally, I prefer the Brocade from a management perspective. Even though I am familiar with both, I found the Brocade a bit easier to handle. I've...

HEAT.NET - Were you there, do you remember? Post up!

Heat eventually progressed to a pay system Stiler, it was something cheap like $5/mo, it wasn't much. The heat bucks could be used to pay for membership. Play for degrees --> get a copy of Scud (which included a free months membership) = circumvent the monthly fee --> Heat.net goes out of...

HEAT.NET - Were you there, do you remember? Post up!

For those of you who don't know, HEAT.NET was founded by "Gary" who I remember being the CEO of Segasoft during the late 90's. I remember he used to send me boxes of heat.net CD's to distribute, he's been successful, unfortunately heat.net was not. It was similar to mplayer.com, essentially the...

    If Quake was made today..

Funny, that's me back in the day in the heat.net shirt :D Yeah, they called them "degrees" - makes sense they went under... check out this strategy... Takes 5000 degrees to get a copy of SCUD, you get 100 degrees for each hour you are logged on, and 200 degrees for each hour you were in a...

    If Quake was made today..

buddy was using toast.net pulling 120-150 ping with a 56k on heat.net, I was always around 200-220 with my 33.6 at the time. We used to grin at people with the 4-8ms ping who were direct connect, then we'd annihilate them in the da-bomb mod exclusively by heat.net, lol.

I miss good old fashion LANS...I started with Wofl3d and all the solid ID software, hand of fate, doom, hexen, rise of the triad, blah blah...countless hours with friends on the phone, with a headset on the cordless, no ventrillo, no teamspeak, most people didn't have any cable modem. if you had...

My home file server is running off a Asus IP35-Pro, currently housing some random PCIe video and the perc 6/i card.Since the perc only holds 8 drives, I am thinking of implementing another because it's so cheap. Current setup: Board: Asus IP35-Pro Controller: Dell Perc 6i Drive Config: 6...

    Disk requirements for 13-14 VMs

How much space do you actually need? Raid 5 versus Raid 10 will yield you approximately ~2TB. For solid read/write performance, RAID10 is going to be your best bet. It offers better redundancy as well as speed, at the cost of space. I'll usually have my VM-Host running a Mirror setup with 146...

Why is linux so hard to get working in ESX?

I've got a few CentOS boxes here at the office, didn't have any problem with them pulling DHCP, nor have I ever needed to add a route when moving to static. If you're using the CLI (which most Linux users should hold in high regard) I prefer to change the run level and not use the x-windows gui...

ESXi vs Hyper-V for new lab setup, VM questions

I would have to agree, most Linux/Unix OS's are not a huge fan of Hyper-V, however Hyper-V does support a number of them. I've had much better luck with VMWare in regard to Linux. Although I do run CentOS with Nagios using Hyper-V, I feel there will be a lot of improvements with SP1, hopefully...
