There are good “glossy” AR coatings that are not matte and like another poster mentioned are used on high end Samsung TVs, that let you have your cake and eat it too. Never seen it used on a monitor though..

Found a 3070, any reason to keep my 1080TI ?

The OP said they have a 980 as backup.

AW3821DW (Nov 2020) with GSync Ultimate

Dell has several warranty levels from depot service to advanced exchange. Not sure what their monitors come with by default now but it’s worth reading the fine print. The “good” warranties are very good.

    Samsung 34" QD-OLED

Interestingly, when Samsung flew out Linus from LTT to show them QD OLED I’m pretty sire I heard him say the monitor they used to show off QD OLED was the Alienware. Hopefully that means it’s pretty solid for a press outing.

OK, but these monitors have “ROG Swift” branding and probably won’t be a “banger of a deal”.

Odyssey G7, stop me before I pull the trigger

Didn’t Linus stack two super curved monitors one above the other? IMHO you end up with something a lot like a single 49” normal aspect ratio monitor in that case just a little taller/ higher res. I think for dual monitor ultra wide monitors make little sense (not that you can’t do it) but...

    43" monitor for programming

Why not extend the AC end? Taking apart the adapter or messing with a dc extender seems like a lot of hassle and risk when AC extension cords are common and safe.

LG 32GP850-B 165 hz monitor frame skipping like crazy even at 120 hz

Does it feel like it’s skipping frames in a smooth scroll in an actual game? It should be quite obvious.

    GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

Same here re: DP cable - running this at 4k144. I also used a HDMI 2.1 connection for testing but disconnected it after a bit, since I need the HDMI output for a second display.

    Any quiet 10-keyLESS keyboards?

The quietest keyboards will be like the Logitech above using rubber dome or scissor type switches as you see in most laptops . Not my favorite but some people flat out prefer them. To each their own.

    Want new monitor

You could also try increasing FoV in game since that is something you’re used to at a certain size. A slightly higher FOV may make it feel like you “zoomed out” a little.

New In Box 22" Viewsonic P220FB Perfect Flat CRT Unboxed

I had this exact monitor new and used it for years. At some point the higher resolutions don’t look that great due to dot pitch, going by memory.

The 32 inch 4k IPS 144hz's...(Update - this party is started) (wait for it...)

Innolux talked about a 32” 144 dual cell LCD with effectively 2 million zones (“MEGAZONE”) but never showed a prototype AFAIK. There are 60hz pro monitors with this capability but too slow for gaming.

Steam Deck officially announced by Valve

I agree with the evaluation that they likely meant it’s a virtual 1gb at a pre-driver level until OS loads drivers. Doesn’t it have quad channel LpDDR5 @5500MT ? That’s way more than other off the shelf APUs support and explains the performance.

    LG 38GL950G - 37.5" 3840x1600/G-Sync/175Hz

Could be a display input / sync issue. I’d try cycling inputs and a different laptop / cable / input to confirm that’s not the problem. Hope you feel better!

The 32 inch 4k IPS 144hz's...(Update - this party is started) (wait for it...)

I thought the MSI did have an sRGB mode based on this review - but I have no first hand experience: Note of course that on something like a wide gamut IPS an sRGB mode will almost always result in lower contrast.

Will Alder Lake be good enough to compete with Zen 3 XT and its 3D cache?

Most of the Alder lake differences between i7 and i9 in non core-maxed workloads is down to cache, so it’s definitely important in that uarch.

What new display type are you looking for in 2021?

If manufacturers were more upfront about it, most desktop monitor panel sizes have more to do with leftover capacity on either sheets of large glass for larger panel sizes or previous gen glass sizes that are evenly divisible by some monitor panel size, as opposed to specific consumer demand of...

Latest GPU Market Sales Indicate that NVIDIA Indeed Halted RTX 30 Series Production

Nvidia sells chips to board partners not retail cards (outside of the low production ref cards). Hoarding cards or holding inventory makes little sense for the purpose of forcing consumers to pay more as it doesn’t benefit nvidia and doesn’t net them more money as a simple exercise in arithmetic...

    $600 conundrum, 1080ti vs 3060

I bought three GPUs at msrp for me and family within the first three months of launch. Screw the scalpers. Of course now the manufacturers are charging more so you snooze you lose.
  26. S

Nvidia series 40, is there an ETA?

Why do you think there will be stockpiling (more than usual anyway) for the next launch? I would think that as usual the GPU makers want to start getting chips out the door and collecting revenue.

I hope Intel has volume on these things. More than MSRP, availability will determine both discounts and competitive pricing from AMD.

Steam Deck officially announced by Valve

I’m pretty sure I’m going to run Windows on this thing. I just don’t see why not, unless there are issues with performance or drivers / stability in Windows. Even if many or most games run fine under proton, I don’t want to feel like there’s some I can’t play etc. Plus there’s xbox gold, and...

    Cure possible?

A lot of people give bad advice about LcD image retention and burn in based on plasma, Oled (emissive tech), when it makes things worse for LCD. If it does not fad naturally after lowering brightness and moving your taskbar (top or sides) it’s not going away and there’s nothing to be done about...

    OLED Eye Fatigue

It could be the viewing distance / size. It may be an uncomfortable foxed focal point for your eyes for long term viewing leading to eye fatigue. Another possibility is the contrast / brightness but you seem to have explored that side of it so I would consider the focal length / viewing...

    Dell P3222QE or ASUS PA329CV

I haven't seen reviews but going by the basics, for coding I'd take the Dell because it is a native sRGB monitor which makes everything closer to looking right out of the box, where as the Asus is more designed for graphics design work and use with a color profile. A review would tell you more...

Any good JBOD boxes with 12 bays that are USB 3? And are not sans Digital crap?

    PG32UQX - ASUS 32" 4K 144 Hz HDR1400 G-Sync Ultimate

You can’t get rid of halos in challenging situations but the difference in FALD implementations with just different driving electronics and firmware is vast as we have seen in the TV space over the last few years particularly with Mini LED.

What new display type are you looking for in 2021?

I had a 15” 4k60 laptop which looked great but it was a bit of a power hog, and the 2880 or 2560 laptops look nearly as good while being easier to run on the go. Laptops are generally kept closer than desktop monitors because the keyboard has to be right there, but I think I prefer the wide...

    VA panel burn-in?

Some LCD monitors can get permanent burn in but it's rare. The very first 15" LCD monitor I had got the Windows logo burned in permanently. My old touchscreen thinkpad 13" had retention (but not burn in at that point) particularly when the screen was in brightest mode. The difference between the...

DP has no licensing costs and outside of this narrow HDMI 2.x+ window has generally been ahead of HDMI in resolution/bandwidth capabilities. DP 2.x has been long delayed but is closer to release now. It can be implemented as an embedded technology for laptops. It is the embedded format in USB...

Do you even want to buy a CPU right now?

Multi layer cache with a bunch of connecting tech is expensive. I wonder what we will see <$300 - like is it cheaper to sell an 8 core than a 6 core with more cache (or is it just not viable at a lower price point). Either way I think the $300 and under price points which were historically the...

Do you even want to buy a CPU right now?

Alder Lake S will have 8 very fast cores and the E cores are supposedly skylake level IPC rather than a warmed over atom core. Even if the windows scheduler is initially dumb about it I am quite excited about this first high performance post 14nm desktop CPU with apparently such a large jump...

Recommended Dual Monitor Arm Mount for 32 and 35 inch monitors?

Clamp style will be the most secure option for two monitors of this size. I am not sure what your budget is, but I would recommend a gas spring or pneumatic arm style monitor arm if you need to adjust occasionally with a clamp arm (otherwise movement is difficult). I use an ergotron lx which is...
