Would it be naïve to sell my Vega 56 for $$$ to buy a better card "when" prices fall again?

At those prices, I would likely sell-off the Vega 56 if you do not have an interest in mining yourself. I doubt you will sell that card for near that much in about six months or so. Use the Newegg Shuffles and such to get you another card, any card. If you enter it each day they run these...

What Z690 board are you eyeing?

I am looking at the Asus Z690 Strix Hero. I will likely wait until Raptor Lake releases to upgrade to a new platform.

    Q9650 vid 1.30 Oced 3.8G DDR3 1333 long term statistics

I find this really awesome that some of these older platforms can run modern games. My dad still uses a Core 2 system I gave him back in 2008/2009. It is one of those Shuttle mini PC's. It currently has an old Radeon HD5830 in it. A few years ago I upgraded it with a Q8400 and 4GB of DDR2 800Mhz...

Nvidia GTX660 broke Alienware Aurora R12 motherboard

Seems most likely that the motherboard went bad. I have used much older cards on recent systems, such as an 8800GTX or Radeon HD5830 without issue.

Ford Mustang Mach E Leak: Mustang goes Electric

I was excited at first when I heard about Ford making an electric Mustang. Finally, something cool to compete with Tesla. Then, I saw that it was a flipping crossover instead of a sport coupe. Nuclear is the way to go to increase energy output for the power grid. Very efficient energy source and...

Do you even want to buy a CPU right now?

With Alder Lake just around the corner, I would likely wait for that unless you can get a 10/11th gen CPU with a Z590 board very, very cheap. I would wait for the reviews before buying in case it does not perform well.

I need to build a 5600x system, MB & Ram advice

I have been a fan of the Asus X570-E Strix motherboard. I have built three systems with those boards so far.

Leaks are trickling in but the Bionic A15 seems to be beating the Exynos 2200 for GPU performance

It could be twice as fast as Samsung's new chip and I still would not buy it.

    Official NVIDIA Ampere In-Stock Thread

I managed to get an RTX 3060 on the Newegg Shuffle. I feel dirty that I paid more for it than what I paid for a GTX 1080 Strix two months after that card launched.

    SGX

Well crap. I guess I wasted money on a new 4K Blu-ray drive for nothing when I built this rig. I wanted to have 4K Blu-ray playback on my computer as well. It was also the only reason I was looking to get a 4K monitor. Now, I feel really bad about the computer I built for my brother. The only...

So is all this madness still in full swing?

I just paid more for a lower range graphics card (3060, Non-Ti) than I did for a top of the line card (1080) just a little more than five years ago. This stuff is insane and has become the new normal for years to come unfortunately. I may need to find other hobbies with how expensive cars...

    Is This Fixable?

As someone who does electronics assembly for a living, I would declare it scrap because of the torn-away pads. If they were just lifted slightly, you could repair them. You might get away with just leaving the memory chips off and repairing the other pulled components. Did they guy epoxy the...

I could use some upgrade advice.

I second what hititnquitit posted. Most of the original specifications appear good. I would go with a Ryzen 5000 series CPU and a newer GPU if you can get a hold of one at a reasonable price.

Everyone happy with their ASUS ROG Strix-E or F?

I remember ordering most of the time for around $280 early last year. Now, the Strix-E costs about $320 most of the time.

this guy is puting water on pc parts how does it still work??

I work in electronics manufacturing. Distilled water is completely fine for cleaning electronics as long as no electricity runs through it. The large cleaning machine at work uses distilled water to wash components. When I was in the Navy back in the 1990's, the movers dropped a box in about two...

What is your "coping" strategy for the time until you can get a latest-model Nvidia/AMD GPU?

I have been building new computers with old GPU's in them. I just built an AMD system with an old GTX960.

have you gotten your new NVidia/AMD upgrade card yet? Why not?

I have not gotten anything despite my best efforts. I refuse to spend money on huge markups and scalper prices. With how my luck has been going this year, I doubt I will get anything outside of a GT 1030 for the next few years.

Lian Li all brushed aluminum cases

I still have my Lian-li PC P50. I would put a build in it if I could find replacements for the broken plastic tabs and somehow fix the acrylic window. My brother still uses his AMD Red Dragon version of that case with a Ryzen 5800X and Radeon 5700XT in it.

When PCIe x1_3 & PCIe x1_4 are occupied, PCIe x16 run at x2 mode, what if ONLY ONE is occupied?

Most likely, yes the PCIe 4x slot would move down to 2 lanes with either of the 1x slots in use. From my understanding of what I read, the 4x and two 1x slots share the same four lanes.

Is an nvme ssd worth it on this motherboard?

I purchased an NVMe M.2 to PCIe 4x card for less than $10 that I placed in the second 16x slot on a Z97 motherboard. I had an extra drive laying around and thought why not when I put together a computer from spare parts for family.

Oh Snap, Won Newegg Shuffle....To Buy or not to buy

I entered that and only went for the EVGA and Asus TUF cards. I did not win a chance to buy either. The other cards were WAY too expensive. Heck, ALL of the cards cost too much these days. I am regretting selling the EVGA RTX3060 I won on a Newegg shuffle. That one costed about $390 at the time...

Need advice on upgrading an ancient Intel 2600k system to something Ryzen powered, no OC needed.

Have you looked at the Ryzen 5 5600X or the Ryzen 7 5800X? You can find the 5600X's for less than $300 and the 5800X's for about $400 to $420. If you go the Ryzen 3000 series route, I would check the [H]ard forum and other sources for gently used CPU's at this point as retailers want too much.

I guess $450 for a 5800X is not looking so bad compared to the price most places sell the 5600X currently.

    My cap fell off!

Appears that some thing caused physical damage to the PCB and may have knocked the capacitor off. I would attempt to find the schematics of the board to discover what the capacitor does before risking the CPU. You can probably enter the type in a search engine to find where to buy a replacement...

Time to retire my Silverstone TJ07?

The Fractal cases would provide a worthy upgrade to your case. They have a lot of options for setups, though you may need to purchase extra parts if you need a lot of hard drive bays. I bought the Define 7 XL because it has two 5.25" bays for an optical drive and a Teac FD-505 dual floppy disk...

5800X performance for $50 less?! Intel Rocket lake i7 11700K Review

I did not know about the first m.2 slot not functioning with Comet Lake until I received the board and read the manual. 5800X performance for $50 less?! Intel Rocket lake i7 11700K Review

I already have a 10700K and a Z590 motherboard. I already have an 11700K on pre-order (begrudgingly) so I can actually use the features of said motherboard. 5800X performance for $50 less?! Intel Rocket lake i7 11700K Review

I have the Asus Z590 Maximus Hero XIII in my computer currently. I doubt I could sell it for enough to purchase another 570X Strix-E much less a Dark Hero. I have a 10700K already. Unfortunately, I only have about $450 set aside. I really wanted to install the second Samsung 980 Pro I have and...
