    Shutting down for a while

Hi All Unfortunately I am going to have to shut my rigs down for the foreseeable future as the wife has been made redundant. While my wage allows us to cover all the bills it does not allow for any kind of luxuries of which my folding hobby is one. Hopefully I will be back on line by mid...

Mowing over high PPD folders from yesteryear

Well, I'm in the UK so all sorts of shenanigans were going on, houses were built on the cheap and as quickly as possible. I had a pipe go on the heating system a couple of years ago. It turns out all the heating pipes were made out of mild steel so they all need to come out and be replaced...

Folding@Home bigadv EOL 2nd Anniversary Challenge: The Race is over.

I'm only going to be running at half spped. One of my rigs keeps taking a dump and i have no idea what is causing it. Currently testing the cards separately to see if one of them is on the way out. :( Of course, it had to be the newer rtx rig and not the old 1070/1080 rig:mad::mad::mad:

Mowing over high PPD folders from yesteryear

I've consolidated to 2 rigs each with 2 gpu's. While I don't need to run air con to cool the house in summer, electric costs where I live are really steep and the house is till on its original 1960's wiring, having a couple of kilowatts coming out of one double socket is probably not a good...

Thanks for the votes everyone (y) (y) Edit:- i'm not as active on the forums as I used to be but to answer runs2far's question its currently a 2070,2060,1080 and a 1070 all running 24/7. The new cuda core 22 has massively helped performance and thus points. Yes there will be some upgrades in...

    Zen 3 Launch Availability

Assuming a 12 inch wafer that's about 800 chiplets per wafer, at 100% yield thats 23.5m chiplets per month. A more realist yield of 80% gives 18.8m chiplets a month. I would say that TSMC is not the bottle neck but somewhere else in the supply chain.

Are we sure CPUs don't bottleneck GPUs in FAH?

It might have been better to wait a week or so, the 5000 series ryzen's will be out with a major uplift in ipc

I'm guessing your running some cpu units which would account for the sheer number of WU done. I'm waiting on a platform upgrade for one of my folding rigs before i go back to doing some cpu folding

Folding Computers: Upgrade Now From 1080Tis to 2080 Supers, or Wait?

Rise and Fall of the [H] team

That was our take on it later on but even we got irked by the single socket brigade in the beginning, especially when we were coughing up for 2p lga 1366 boards Its still there but its redundant adding it to your slot config won't get you any work. Who knows it may come back at some point in...

Rise and Fall of the [H] team

To sum up the bigadv story, back in the day (2010-14)there were some monster sized cpu work units of 1m + atoms that give big PPD for the time, 250k-1m PPD depending on the hardware which was supposed to be 8 cores (not threads) or more. The hardware requirements changed a couple of times due...

    Ryzen 9 3950X vs. Threadripper 1950X

i have a 1920x and i built a 3900x for my mate late last year, cinebenched both of them. 1920x scored ~5500, his 3900x scored ~7300. There is no contest, 39xx destroys the 1st gen parts and its a real shame that 1xxx/2xxx TR owners don't have an upgrade to 3xxx

How can I change F@H power level based on idle?

Its mainly the power level switching, some WU don't like the number of threads being changed halfway through the run if its a cpu unit. gpu units occasionally error out and restart but it doesn't always happen. There may be a way to automate the power switching but i'm not sure how it would be...

How can I change F@H power level based on idle?

changing the slider halfway through a running WU may well cause the client to restart work on that unit. I would suggest either leaving it on medium or using advanced control set it to finish, that way it will finish the current WU and you can then change the slider before working on the next...

Rise and Fall of the [H] team

Ahh, I remember the day we passed default and you can certainly see both the drop off in bigadv and the rise of the gpu's and the eventual rise of the coins. To the old timers that have left, PG and VJ in particular are no longer associated with the project.
