CHEAP Laptop for General Desktop use and VERY light Gaming?

    I've not been keeping up on mobile hardware as of late, but here's a $424.99 open box deal from Newegg. Ryzen 5 2500U / 8gb / 256gb SSD. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834850877R&ignorebbr=1 Here's a review...

Topre Type Heaven Keyboard Review @ [H]

I got this with some sort of deal a few months back that brought the price down to around $115. At that price, it was worth every penny. I agree with the findings of the review. For gaming (most of what I do at home) I stick to my trusty Cherry switch keyboards - the Black and Brown switch...

    The Cody Project

This is an awesome thing! Cancer survivor myself, it's definitely one of the more destructive things in life, and this project hits close to home. Computers were one of my only escapes during that trial. Glad to see lots of people giving from their hearts to help someone out in a great way -...

So Newegg gave me some free Ram with my MB purchase

The motherboard takes DDR3 and they gave you DDR3. Have you tried booting the motherboard with that memory? I didn't see anything to suggest that those GSKILL modules wouldn't work in your motherboard.

    Why We DC

Thanks! I'm excited to be here. Glad to have found a way to give back while indulging my nerd tendencies. It's going to be awhile before I get a system going as I'm limited on funds, but the deal on the Opterons was too good to pass up. Big word of thanks out to the [H]orde. The amount of...

Cool New Technology of the Day

I can see some pretty cool applications for stuff like video billboards and advertisements, and it would make for some interesting art installations, too. Practically, though, I'm having trouble thinking of any way I'd use this day-to-day.

    Why We DC

I was diagnosed with cancer when I was 22. My treatment was relatively short at 9 weeks and I'm now considered to be in remission, however I will have to keep a close eye on my body for the rest of my life. I have started folding again recently with renewed vigor. Besides the physical and...

[H]ardOCP & ASUS GeForce GTX 660Ti DirectCU II Giveaway

I'm looking forward to a new 600-series nVidia card for the efficient performance it provides, not to mention the simply outstanding value for us gamers. This kind of performance at its price point is a boon for those of us with limited budgets and high aspirations when it comes to hardware...

Overheating! Need new case! Please help

My current case is the graphite, non-windowed flavor of Corsair 600T. It's the best case I've ever had for my main system. I'm not a fan of windowed cases or terribly flashy ones, so the case's understated design appeals to me. It's got a ton of space for even the longest video cards, it has...

Antec Case & PSU Combo Lucky Draw!!!!!

I have several Antec power supplies deployed both at home and for clients, and I've never had a single one fail. I've also had several Antec cases, and all have been of stellar quality for a fair price. Thinking of the day I gave away my old "Dragon" style case to my brother still brings a...

ISO 2 Cheap Pre-Builts for office use.

I recently picked up a couple low end Dell Vostros for similar light/medium office duty. Core i3, 2gb, 250gb drives. They cost me around 389-ish after taxes. Spent another 35 or 40 on 8gb of RAM for one of the machines that is being used with large spreadsheets and media. Overall I'm pleased...

Good luck at training! Looking forward to seeing the finished geek cave. What monitors did you end up getting? I can't afford IPS right now, but the Acer TN I picked up last month does okay, so I might have to grab a couple more of those in the next couple of months... and copy your monitor...

    pfSense Router Build

What you're looking for is a u.fl antenna. They're all over ebay, just search "u.fl antenna" - you can usually find a pair of them for under $5. Tyco makes a decent one, if I recall correctly - I think they're what I used for a customer's ITX box a year or so ago. Another option (one that...

Hell, I'd pay for the sketch-ups and materials sheet for this one. That's the biggest pain in the ass for me - the planning! I'd rather just get in and start building :) Good luck, this looks like it'll be one hell of a sweet desk.

    Logitech Z5500 $250 at Dell - 9/27 only

Doh! I just bought these last week from Amazon, paid just shy of $300. Oh well, free 2 day shipping with Prime trial. These replaced my Klipsch 2.1's. In my opinion, this set has them beat for sound quality, plus the number of inputs and the control box and remote are outstanding. My...

    Newegg: Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache $39.99

I have two of these drives. Both of mine were purchased off Amazon about 4-6 months ago and both are single platter. As far as I know, all of these 500gb Blues are single platter now, but I could easily be mistaken. As for performance, they seem OK. I'm not into benchmarking, but I can tell...

Apple keyboard or Logitech illuminated keyboard

I'm using an Apple keyboard with my PC now. It is completely compatible; the only difference is that the Command key becomes the windows key, and the location is swapped with the alt key on traditional PC keyboards. This puts the Windows key right next to the space bar. It's not a big deal...

LIAN LI T1 Spider on Video

That video was horrid. Was it supposed to be funny? As for the benching system..... seems silly to spend money on something like that for an ITX board. Or any form factor, for that matter. I'd rather have an actual bench station.

    Thermaltake's new Level 10 case: only $849.99!

I guess I'm one of the few that likes the uniqueness of the case. It looks good to me. I love the "barebones" look to it. Kinda reminds me of the Half-Life 2 fortress. However, at that price point, I'd have to make a lot more than I do now AND be drunk and reckless to order it.

    My Fallout 3 freezing fix

Under Vista and Windows 7 on a Pentium E5200, I was getting freezes every 30 minutes, with or without mods. The game also froze upon exiting every time. A couple of weeks ago I stumbled upon Fallout Mod Manager. By launching the game with that utility, FO3 launches, plays, and exits as it...

    Student Arrested For Classroom Texting

Scramblers do exist, but unfortunately they're illegal in almost all circumstances. Something to do with FCC rules, I believe, but I could be wrong there. However, I'm in full support of this kind of extreme action for such a small offense. She was warned, twice, and showed no remorse about...

Will my 2nd PC play WoW or am I in for grief??

My spare machine plays WoW just fine. It's got an Athlon 64 3200+ single core, 2gb DDR400, and an nVidia 7950GT. I'm having trouble remembering how the x1950 Pro is, but if I recall it's similar in performance to the 7950GT. That said, I play Wrath of the Lich King at 1280x1024 resolution...
