new to VR and looking for purchase recommendations

FPS shooters can be improved massively with a VR gun stock. I got a knock-off Sanlaki one and it's made a massive difference, I almost feel like I'm playing airsoft instead of a VR game. I *had* to get the 256GB version, as the 64GB was such a gimp. Now that there's the 128GB base model...

Who ran Haswell-E for a long time or is still running it?

Recently I saw a video comparing Broadwell to latest Intel CPU on 14nm, and the performance differential is like 15%, so Broadwell still has a lot of legs left.

What? I play without headphones, it's very usable without. Headphones are a luxury. Q2 supports AirLink, which is completely free. There's 0 need for a cable. Latency is extremely low provided you have a good WiFI router, but I have actually used it along with my phone's AC WiFi hotspot and it...

    Oculus Quest 2

It depends heavily on the game. I find that view panning in some games cause heavy motion sickness right away, while most games are fine. You will certainly get "used" to it, but getting sick is still possible even after 100s hours. I recommend (if you have space) to basically not use panning at...

Games are lagging with new setup, please help :(

Oh that doesn't sound good. If they tested your mobo and GPU with their CPU, it might be the CPU that's broken. Bring all the components next time so they can test on their stuff.

    Oculus Quest 2

Are you using Link or Air Link? Even if the device show up, I remember you still need to "pair" them. When you connect the USB C cable, don't allow storage access in the Q2. That'll then prompt you to pair Link IIRC.

    Quick-playing games

That sounds like you would want some Roguelike games. I suggest starting with Pocket Rogues, it has both a Steam and an Android version, save is compatible with both, and it's a fun dungeon crawler. Not that much content right now, and plenty of grinding, but it gives you a good thrill and nice...

Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

All I wanted was a good space dog fighting game with some RPG mechanics like X3 TC but now I have no idea wtf this is gonna turn out to be. Might as well go play Spreadsheet Simulator I mean Eve Online.

    Oculus Quest 2

You launch the game via the Quest, not via Steam.

Oculus Quest 2 That should cover everything. I recommend VD myself, it's much more intuitive to control, customize and do everything that AirLink does, the UI for Air Link is stupid and bothersome, plus it automatically turns off if you don't use it for...

I want to monitor my son android phone but I won't be able to access it physically, any other way?

If my child is staying in my house, rent-free, eating the groceries I buy, for free, using the amenities I buy for him/her, for free, my child has no room to negotiate. If you wanna get treated as an adult, you better live like one. None of this BS, obviously the kid here isn't mature at all...

    Oculus Quest 2

I have no idea what you're on about. I have played MANY PCVR games over WiFi at 120fps, previously with Virtual Desktop, and more recently with AirLink and it was a really good experience. What games did you try? The Q2 should work with all SteamVR games. Also FYI the resolution on the quest 2...

    Best phones with LCD screens?

I think Xiaomi phones will best fit your needs, Redmi and Poco subbrands specifically, or Realme and Vivo too.

It's called Facebook Connect, and it'll happen in Oct, 28th. There should be announcements regarding VR stuff there.

Apple not recalling M1 due to screens cracking

This is what happens when companies pursue thinness at all costs. What's baffling to me is that there are comparable thin and lights like the LG Gram that has no issues with this.

Games are lagging with new setup, please help :(

I think in this case you just have to be a bit of an asshole and keep escalating up, they can't turn you away anyways.

I would grab a Quest 2 256GB version, then go with Air Link. You won't be disappointed. If you want the best of the best, I think right now it's the Valve Index.

Recommendation for a 1440p for RPGs and RTS

I can't stand joystick-based camera panning, and even joystick movement now. I just instinctively jump, dodge and move, and that's with DOOM 3 level of GFX on VR games now. I can't wait until VR locomotion becomes more affordable (probably $1k for headset + locomotion), then VR will truly be...

Games are lagging with new setup, please help :(

I think that if they acknowledged the issue you can keep pushing them and probably eventually they'll give you a replacement, you just have to be very patient about it.

Recommendation for a 1440p for RPGs and RTS

Oh god, I have flashbacks of puking in my mouth when VR games have really bad camera panning. I'd recommend checking out Samsung Odyssey G7 or G9 Neo.

Humble Fall VR Emporium Bundle - $15

How much do you get out of Videogames today?

I highly recommend an Oculus Quest 2, and play the standalone games on it. Much better experience being tetherless, plus it has VR over wifi that's pretty good the last few times I tried. It also has 120Hz support, which is awesome for motion sickness. I mainly play Eleven Table Tennis, and...

    NAS Drives

NAS drives are usually rated for 24/7 operation, better protection against vibration and heat, longer warranty, something normal drives don't have. They're absolutely fine as a regular HDD, but they tend to be pricier.

Play VR games, you'll get more out of it. I play a lot of VR games and the thrill I get is excellent.

Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

I backed this mess back when it was announced, super excited. Right now, I have more faith on No Man Sky implementing good space dogfighting and it's basically Star Citizen, than actually getting a playable game for my money. I'd much rather play NMS, too.

Samsung and AMD = Quest type product?

With the kinds of visual fidelity you get in more AAA mobile games, I don't see a problem on the GPU side of things, especially since these days HFR gaming on mobiles are a thing now, plus with my experience in VR, visual fidelity doesn't actually matter as much as interactivity, smoothness...

Why is that some VPN is several times the monthly fee vs. others?

Most basic would be stealth IP logging, then URLs, then use that to build a profile of who you are, then use that data to enable persisent, profile-based, tracking advertising for every other platform you use on the planet. Which defeats the purpose of a VPN in the first place, and essentially...

GPU Suggestion for while I wait..

I'd suggest grabbing a 5700G, and visit LowSpecGamer on YouTube while you wait out til next year, then grab Ryzen 6000 APUs for 2 more years until GPU prices are sane again. Either that or just say fuck it, and buy a Nintendo Switch and be happy.

Will power consumption concern you? (future CPUs)

As a person living in a tropical, humid climate by the seaside, I do care a lot about power usage, as it's hot as fuck here, so I started switching to undervolting for more comfort without having to turn on AC. Couldn't care less about the bill or the noise, just the heat. Performance is still...

    CPU for 1440p Gaming/Streaming

Yea I know, but does the 5600g/5700g have hardware encoder baked in is the question. I agree, though OP doesn't want to buy a GPU right now, plus he wants AMD, so his choices are limited.

Been out of the DIY PC Loop for Years, Need Advice on Good CPU, Mobo, RAM. Stability, No OC, Mid-Hi Range Value (Cutting Edge, not Bleeding)

With current GPU pricing I'd suggest grabbing a gaming laptop. Legion 5 with a 3060 130W model can be had for $1300. If you really want, the Ideapad Gaming 3 with a 3060 90W and Ryzen 5600H is $960. Slap 16GB of good RAM in there and you're set for a while I think.

Why is that some VPN is several times the monthly fee vs. others?

Yea, but all you have on them is their word, and their parent company being a shady advertising company, can you really trust their word? If Google gives out a free VPN, would you trust them to not harvest your data despite saying they won't?

    Deathloop (Arkane Studios)

From reviews it seems like the game has major micro-stuttering issues, possibly due to Denuvo.

    CPU for 1440p Gaming/Streaming

Yes, but for OBS you'll probably need to dedicate at least 2c/4t for 720p streaming, maybe even 4c/8t for 1080p streaming. So what's left for the actual game? If you go 6c, you'll be left with 4c/8t, barely good enough for now, and there's no future proofing. With 5700G, you still have some...
