odd battery problem: sudden drop in capacity - current capacitiy way over design / full charge capacity

Could be an issue with the firmware or OS drivers. Has a newer fw been released which mentions the battery/power? If not, don't upgrade the firmware just yet. That could cause more problems than it solves.

MiSTer FPGA - Retro Console Hardware

My case is fairly "large", so I planned to run both to the rear panel, and all the USB back, under, and to the front panel (since the cables are so long). I'm leaning toward putting the mister sideways in the case, but I'm waiting to see how long the vga cable I ordered actually is.

Here is why Spacex's Starlink should work:

The people with cable or DSL are in relatively good shape. There are places where satellite or line of sight direct (wifi) internet access are the only options, if there are any options at all.

Here is why Spacex's Starlink should work:

I just figure they refuse to pay the absurd price, like myself, for base broadband access. You could get dialup for $8/mo (or free) before, but that's not good enough. Now you "need" at least DSL, which is $40/mo minimum, and there are no alternatives. A phone line is ~$20/mo, add dialup (if you...

Here is why Spacex's Starlink should work:

The article says the people in adjacent neighborhoods have the same access (at the same cost) but the "whiter" neighborhood has fewer households that go without. Starlink won't help in those situations (it's more expensive than base level broadband, and they're not taking advantage of that...

What's a good brand of motherboard speaker?

Yeah. Sorry, was at work so I was in a rush to finish the post. I see they have a $10 minimum order req, though, so maybe not ideal if that's all you need/want.

Reverse engineering generative models from a single deepfake image

You could train it by providing it with various deepfakes and NOT providing the originals, and explicitly telling it they are fake, then provide some images that are not fake and tell it they are not. Then after a while it should be able to pick out the artifacts which give away the fakes fairly...

MiSTer FPGA - Retro Console Hardware

Replaced the wheel pot with something less likely to get bent/broken. 10k, and I think the orig was 1k, so my range is going to be...a bit smaller. Also, need to ask which pin was 1—should have before I replaced it. XD Managed to only lift one pad, and it was on the side without traces so...

Intel processor architecture (for Debian install)

Looks like you're missing four pins on that power connector. I'd have to look in the manual, but those may be required to power the motherboard/cpu. Sorry, saw that before, but the pico-psu threw me off and I wasn't sure what I was looking at.

    Using ionic wind for airflow?

Actually, I've experienced just this, in a case with both case and cpu fans. Granted, they were all set to pull air in, but there were exhaust vents open and it was just an r5 3400g.

How to configure the Mid HDD fan inside the case?

You will have more are being pulled through than if you flipped and tried to push it through, so yes, it should be better. If you had a shroud to keep air from escaping around the drives it might do better the other way.

    Using ionic wind for airflow?

I think it's cool tech. I don't think it's capable of cooling (on it's own) a desktop computer in a standard tower case, unless you're okay with cooking the motherboard components.
  25. N

    Using ionic wind for airflow?

I meant an open hole (singular), vs a grill/mesh. In a small case, with the heatsink right next to the holes, it might do just fine. But in a midi/mid/full tower case, where the heatsink is far from the vent holes, the air will tend to want to stay in the case (unless the holes are above the...

    Using ionic wind for airflow?

Still going to need a fan to get the hot air out of the case, unless you have an open hole or the ion engine works on holy case panels.

US PC shipments soar 73% in the first quarter as Apple falls from top spot

You could do that on a chromebook or thin client and a powerful build/render server. It's easy to argue they're necessary if you ignore the alternative. Now, if they can afford it, I'm not going to say "don't!" just because there is a cheaper alternative. But there are alternative ways to...

Exposing my ignorance: I don't know what's going on with my RAM. (Renamed)

As mentioned prior, GB has dual bios on their boards, and it will switch to the backup bios when it has an issue during the boot process (ram training, sudden power off, some boot loops). The memory timing and frequency settings (as well as the rest?) are linked to the bios somehow, so when it...
