If the files are encrypted, and you want to attempt to recover them, the master key for whatever you were hit with might already be released. Do a search around the net once you determine what you got hit with. Two examples...

    Ubiquiti AP Pro reset

Can you access the APs over SSH? If you can, typically set-inform http://ip-of-controller:8080/inform will get the AP to communicate with the new network controller (raspi). If you don't know the SSH login, boot up the original PC where you installed the network controller and grab the SSH...

    New Router?

I'll start by saying I'll recommend ubiquiti all day. I'd be remiss if I didn't tell you the full of it though. Since it looks like you're going down the ubiquiti road, I'll throw in that if you go the ubiquiti route, what they label as "stable" means something different than the rest of the...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

Discovered a couple of additional things last night. MDS and SMT should both be disabled to take advantage of the recent patches for vulnerabilities. Turned those off and I lost 2 threads. Browser still runs like shit when streaming video. And, streaming in mpv still runs great. While testing...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

LOL. it doesn't matter if I took it right away or two minutes later. The result is the same. I was trying to help you understand why the load hadn't spiked yet. I've provided more than enough evidence that supports all my previous statements. There's no question there. You still gotta take...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

Hence the whole thread... Now you get it... As adament as you were that it didn't matter, now hopefully you see the gripe behind hardware acceleration being just as important on Linux as in Windows. And, my initial statements that when I'm talking to anyone and trying to make a solid...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

Didn't mean to get your hopes up. I only took that screenshot before the load had a chance to increase. It increased similar to what happened in Fedora. No noticeable difference. If it were a network card/driver issue, I would expect the same limitation whether I'm using the browser or mpv. I...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

This is exactly my point. Software rendering is shit. Hardware acceleration should be standard. Anyway, here's KDE Neon
  9. F

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

I'm running Fedora. I've currently got KDE/Plasma, Gnome/Wayland, and Gnome/X11 installed. Downloading KDE Neon right now. Will update thread shortly. Did you see my screenshots with hardware acceleration?

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

For comparison, I did the same thing using hardware acceleration. Again, the only difference here is I am able to leverage hardware acceleration as mpv (the player being used) supports this ability. Again, X11 performed worse using the exact same command. KDE/Plasma. ~13-15% (not exact)...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

You're being accusatory. And, your guilty conscience thinks I'm getting defensive. You're dodging the truth until your last breathe. I don't have time to explain something for 2 days when I've already recorded the information previously. You have a unique ability of projecting. In fact, after...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

I can't possibly keep wasting my time trying to explain this to you. 1. Software rendering runs like shit on my laptop on X11 and Wayland. 2. Hardware acceleration runs great on my laptop. 3. Hardware acceleration runs great whether X11 or Wayland. 4. No official browser support for hardware...
  13. F

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

No! You aren't getting it. Software rendering is what X11 uses. It works exactly the same as Wayland. Unless it's hacked with the ported version of Chrome. You summarized your own ineptness best in your own statement. How ironic. Nobody attacked you. Stop playing the innocent victim. You came...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

Read my first post. Software rendering makes my laptop hot as fuck. So, yes, I do need hardware acceleration. It keeps my laptop cool and allows it to play 1080p video without spinning the fan up to max. Regardless of how you feel, or what does or doesn't work on your machine. On my laptop, this...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

I don't think you understand my results that I've posted. I'm using hardware acceleration in Wayland. It's less taxing on my hardware than in X11. It's running beautifully and I have no complaints about hardware acceleration in Wayland. ;) mpv, VLC, etc can leverage it just fine. It's browsers...
  16. F

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

The hardware acceleration exists in Wayland. It's not Wayland that is the limitation. It's the browser support for the hardware acceleration integration. Because somebody ported a working version into chromium that works in X11 doesn't make X11 better, or Wayland worse. It just means somebody...
  17. F

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

The best result I've gotten yet is in KDE/Plasma with mpv. I understand where you're coming from. Just because something works doesn't mean it isn't worth the effort to test it on other things. Considering that X11 will be phased out in the future, it's useful to gain these results before that...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

I'm not locked into Wayland. I just don't want to run X11. I'm using Plasma now. What major distro hasn't moved away from X11? I'd be more interested in why you're accusing them of using the wrong tool for the job when the Linux community as a whole has moved away from X11. I wanted to test on...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

Stream video with hardware acceleration. It's doing just fine as long as I don't use a web browser (software rendering). Browser hardware acceleration (chromium hack outlined earlier in thread) works in X11, but I have no interest in being on X11 just to run an older/unsupported/unofficial...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

Installed chromium-libs-media-freeworld with appropriate chromium version. Couldn't play 1080p video at all. What happens is the browser becomes unresponsive and the CPU usage goes to maximum. This is on KDE/Plasma and playing a YouTube video. mpv + youtube-dl doesn't even turn my CPU fan on at...

What speeds you get out of your WiFi? WiFi speed optimization. Please help

Sometimes not only multiple antennas. Sometimes additional capabilities in the firmware/software of the particular wifi card you're using too. Only some know how to communicate efficiently enough to achieve the highest speeds. Your best bet is to do some searching around on Amazon for a USB...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

It is in the official repository. But, it's not considered supported or stable. It also requires the chromium-libs-media-freeworld package. Which, in my case, took chromium back 2 minor versions. And, it requires you're running the X11 compositor. You can't use the default Wayland. Those 3...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

Further testing revealed that Wayland doesn't have the appropriate libraries to support mpv "prevent screen from sleeping" functionality. There is somebody working on it, but it's still in progress and not merged into the compositor yet. Switched over to Plasma KDE. Had to modify vo=gpu flag...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

Using mpv, I've gotten down to a consistent 10-12% with a 720p video stream on Wayland. gnome-mpv with the same 720p stream and flags (vaapi, gpu, wayland) uses 20-40% in Wayland. So, it does seem to be a noticeable difference on Wayland. With X11, I didn't notice any difference in usage...

    Hardware acceleration, or lack thereof

I recently got a new laptop with newish hardware. It runs damn good out of the box with vanilla Fedora. I can't think of anything that doesn't work after using it for a few weeks. Pretty happy with it overall. Except that I noticed playing videos in any web browser increases my CPU usage...

Advice needed - Asus AC-RT68U needs to be replaced?

Yeah the VPN client is CLI. So many people have documented it that up should only need to mindlessly issue some commands, then test. Just make sure you hold on to the commands that you issued, so that if you run into trouble you can tell us what you did. I can't personally speak on VPN client...

Maybe a long shot, but do you have another PC you could use to rule that out?

Speedtest slower over LAN than WiFi, but with caveats - losing my mind!

A couple of possibilities: - You sure the speed test server didn't change during your testing? - happen to be using a different ethernet cable in the LAN tests? - QoS rules in your MikroTIk router between LAN and wireless bridge 1?

Router advice on 10G LAN + fiber Internet w/ static IP

Try on a VM first. The controller software doesn't need to be running all the time. Only when you need to make configuration changes or see graphs, etc. The switches, APs, etc work without it. I personally leave mine running all the time.

    New Router?

Exactly this. You seem to be missing the point and have turned this into a personal attack about semantics of the words I used. I clarified my statement. You continuing to attack it is childish. Make a recommendation to the OP, or don't reply at all.

    New Router?

Sure. But, in the mean time he'll have capable gear. As opposed to a Netgear "gaming" router that won't get software updates after a year... It's still possible to upgrade prosumer gear. This doesn't disqualify him from that. My point is that it'll work much more reliably and more likely to get...

I would recommend you look at a Ubiquiti edgerouter options. There's a lot of good info here already regarding 1Gbps ISP connection: https://community.ui.com/questions/Which-router-for-gigabit-fiber/68d42a59-0b5a-40d4-92b2-f15cdae73dce The short of it is that you can run ER-L or ER-X with...

    Sophos XG or pfSense/OPNsense

When I was looking at the Meraki devices, there was talk about an open source firmware for them. Can't remember if it was the switch, firewall, or other devices. Might be worth checking out before you move on to something else or potentially replacing hardware.
