    Found my first MP3 player

Behold the Rio Volt SP90. Still have it - but it never got much use due to the pain of using the display and controls to choose a file for playback.

Anyone else think Samsung is a pathetic company

Can't think of any issues that I've had with my Samsung Note 2, 3, 4, 8, or 9 aside from slow/delayed Android updates. The only other Samsung products that I've owned have been their SSDs and RAM sticks with Samsung chips - which have been fine. So I haven't needed their customer/tech support...

Subscriptions - How much you pay and what it gets you?

There are a lot more cell towers needed here - more land mass to cover and lower population density. Those costs are spread across all subscribers. There may be other contributing factors, of course, including the 'g' word.

What the heck is going on with skyhigh smartphone prices ?

Indeed. Charge what the market will bear. Capitalism at work. Sometimes it works in consumers' favor; sometimes it doesn't. Right now, with smartphones, it doesn't.

What the heck is going on with skyhigh smartphone prices ?

I hope that the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL models will be more readily available (i.e. no 8-9 week ship times), given their higher pricing relative to the Pixel and Pixel XL. But I suspect that those hopes will be dashed... If they are not more readily available, then the high prices are likely to...

    Huawei mate 10 = Release Oct 16th

The Mate 9 is a good phone but their software support is poor. The last security update for the US version of the phone was more than 5 months ago, in early April. For that reason alone I will not consider the Mate 10.

    Cheaper phone with ads

Depends on how much I'm saving. If it's a $599 phone for $299 and the ads are inoffensive and relatively out of the way, then maybe. If it's a $229 phone for $179, then no. There are already too many ads invading almost every waking moment of my life to willingly allow more, unless doing so...

FS: Laptops! HP Spectre X360, Dell Precision M4800

Forgot to mention that the M4800 has an upgraded AUO B156HW01 1080P LCD panel -- a huge improvement over the poor-quality stock LG panel.

Yep. I fixed the post content to remove references to "quad" shortly after I created the thread. But I can't update the original thread title as it is shown in the threads list. I'll add some clarification in the post above.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow, who get their update?

My Galaxy Note 4 with Android 5.0/5.1 did reasonably well on battery life even without Doze. I'm a light user and could push it to almost 3 days if needed (4.4.x was 4+ days). My current Nexus 6P with 6.0.x struggles to make it to 2 days with the same use, and that's with Doze enabled...

Microsoft's Project Astoria and Android app emulation not happening anytime soon

This is about the only thing that will save Microsoft in the phone space. I like Android (just got a Nexus 6P), but if Microsoft were to release a nice Windows-based phone with Android compatibility and a laptop-style dock I'd absolutely consider buying it.

FS: Macbook Pro Retina - Quad Core, 16GB, 768GB

Macbook Pro Retina with 2.6GHz Intel Core i7 (Quad), 16GB RAM, 768GB SSD. Maxed out! This is referred to as the "mid-2012" model but was purchased in late 2012 or even very early 2013 IIRC. It's had very limited use and is physically and operationally like new. This has the best screen I've ever...

How much do you think a 1TB SSD will be in a year?

^^^ I'll have some of what he's having... :D $300 range is much more probable. Perhaps a bit below $300 for some lowest-end models.

FS: Samsung Galaxy Note 3 w/UAG Case, Zerolemon Ext. Battery & Case - 32GB (T-Mobile)

I've just re-installed the latest stock T-Mobile firmware (Android 4.4.2) after having used a custom firmware for a while. The phone is in nice shape but does have two small nicks in the silver plastic trim -- one in the upper left corner and the other in the lower left corner. Neither is...

Do you use your phone as a remote control?

Heck no. I don't want to have to click a button (power) every time I pick up the remote to "turn it on". And I want physical buttons.

FS: 2.5” 480GB Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe 9.5mm SSD

Which is your favorite SSD drive ?

We might do that. But most PC owners (i.e. the 99.9% other than us enthusiasts) aren't going to upgrade a hard drive or SSD in their PC. They're going to expect it to last 5 - 10 years (and sometimes longer). And even those who do upgrade after 2-3 years may prefer to move the old drive to a...
