Senator to Introduce Bill to Ban Loot Boxes and Microtransactions Aimed at Children

How are loot boxes any different than the card packs that kids have bought since forever for like pokemon or magic the gathering. Where the packs may contain rare cards of value, or they may not...

    Must have VR games?

IMO my favorite VR experience was playing through this game: https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/5046/The_Gallery__EP1_Call_of_the_Starseed__EP2_Heart_of_the_Emberstone/ It currently has 2 chapters.

    128kbps AAC vs. 128kbps Vorbis

Well, I don't even use iTunes in the first place. But I just use a single App Store audio player and it plays everything I throw at it. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/flac-player/id577346786?mt=8 You don't have to use several different players, just 1 different player for everything. For...

    128kbps AAC vs. 128kbps Vorbis

Vorbis works just fine on iOS and there are plenty of apps in the App Store that can play it. https://wiki.xiph.org/IOS For example: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/music-player-player-for-lossless-music/id1008200711?mt=8

    Delidding

They make different kinds of superglue. For example you can get a kind that is dissolved by acetone. I used a Loctite formula that can be dissolved by acetone. I just put a tiny dab in each corner of the IHS when re-lidding and it's worked great.

Free Hacked Spotify Coming to an End

I've been using Spotify in the browser with a simple adblock plugin in Chrome for a long as I can remember now and have had unlimited ad-free music for free. Are they closing this too somehow?

Rainbow Six Siege $129.99 but Wait There's MORE!

I'll admit that I use "pay2win" as you guys call them. Though I simply think of them as pay to keep up. As I have gotten older, I find that I have way more money than time. (For instance, it's way more efficient for me to work and make money and buy the content than not work and sit there and...

Go home memory prices, you're drunk.

You don't even have to go back that far. I just checked, when I bought RAM for my i7 930 it as on 8/24/2010 and it was $198 for 6GB of DDR3. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226121 https://imgur.com/zJeGoTF Even right now 8GB of DDR4 3000mhz even is under $100...

Isn't the mining craze pretty much over?

I don't really think it's lucky. I know plenty of my friends working for other companies around the area that have the same sort of policy. I'm not a manager, but my boss just says that as long as I get my 40 hours in and get reasonable work done then there is no problem.

Isn't the mining craze pretty much over?

Huh? I've been on salary for 7 years now and never worked more than 40 hours in a week. If I stay for more than 8 hours in a day during the week then I am leaving early on friday.

    Nikon Releases 45.7-Megapixel D850 Full-Frame DSLR

You said it yourself... *Most* lenses. The resolution is there for the times where it doesn't really outresolve them. How about a nice prime lens while using a tripod for instance? SD cards today are getting gigantic, and the camera can still do 7fps at 45MP so is it really a problem? Can't...

    MPC-HC Is Officially Dead

I switched to MPC-BE a while ago and haven't looked back. MPC-HC even with this latest update doesn't handle HDR videos on a SDR monitor correctly (doesn't tonemap at all) and I guess it never will. MPC-BE has for awhile now.

We’re losing a whole generation of young men to video games (2 articles)

I mean, that's what I was saying about human progress and modern civilization. If you go way back, early humans would probably say you are giving up your man card because you aren't hunting for your own food. Where do you draw the line and does the line not move? The beauty is we don't have...

We’re losing a whole generation of young men to video games (2 articles)

Yes, Even though I *could* probably do it, considering concern about the safety of having done it completely correctly I would just call up roadside assistance which is included in my insurance anyways. To me the greatest thing about living in a modern advanced civilization is that we no longer...

How are gamer bums any different say say Ski bums? This certainly isn't a new phenomenon or new "problem". I find these specific examples interesting. I'm 29 and I can't say I know how to do either of these. Why is that? Well, because I have never had to do them. My car has never had a...

is it possible to access plex content via the cloud outside your network?

Windows 10 - Surround Sound - Optical - Not Functioning Correctly

Yep, that file is a problem. It's AAC 5.1 audio which is not bit-streamable because your audio reciever does not support it. You need to test with a file that has DD or DTS audio. Like this: https://nicko88.com:5001/fbsharing/bK7FZI4N Play that in VLC and enable S/PDIF output.

Windows 10 - Surround Sound - Optical - Not Functioning Correctly

Ah, well that's a different issue IMO than surround sound optical not functioning correctly. I mean the only thing that you would have add surround sound is games. Windows sounds and Youtube are stereo and even if you encoded them into DD or DTS format they would still be stereo. Movies will...

Windows 10 - Surround Sound - Optical - Not Functioning Correctly

I've never had anything other than 2 channel options in that drop down list. But when you are playing surround sound DD or DTS, those options don't matter at all. Those options are only for PCM audio output and when you are using the Windows sound mixer, but DD and DTS are bit-streamed...

Windows 10 - Surround Sound - Optical - Not Functioning Correctly

Well, Youtube doesn't have surround sound audio in the first place, only stereo. VLC works for DD/DTS for me when I enable the use S/PDIF option: Witcher 3 doesn't output DD or DTS audio so it wouldn't normally be surround sound over S/PDIF. It will work in surround just fine over HDMI...

Encrypt and Lock Your Phone - Go to Jail

I guess I don't know about that. Why would the police manufacture or plant fake evidence on a regular joe like me? I've had good relationships with the police all my life and I respect them greatly. I guess I just have had different experiences than others in my life which has shaped my view...

Encrypt and Lock Your Phone - Go to Jail

That was my thinking yes, if you are on trial for child porn on your phone, but you know that you have never had child porn on your phone and even a forensic scrub if your phone would show no child porn, then I would give up my passcode to prove that rather than go to jail for 180 days.

Encrypt and Lock Your Phone - Go to Jail

Yes you do make a good point that I can see here. It can definitely depend on why you are in the situation you are in so far. Like what evidence they have on you that got you in this position so far. If you are in doubt at all about the prior security or possibility of unauthorized use of...

At least not that I can think of. I don't really like jokes. I don't even use profanity or sarcasm mainly because I just don't like profanity and don't see the point in using it and I usually miss sarcasm entirely. Not sure if that helps paint an accurate picture of me or not.

I never said they were unrecoverable. I'm talking about iMessage though not SMS. I haven't used SMS in years. Sure, once they have my phone passcode it's possible to recover iMessages from the NAND. But again, these are boring conversations that they can feel free to read if they really want...

Encrypt and Lock Your Phone - Go to Jail

I know that they would be looking for things that harm you, but if it were in the case of a child porn accusation, there is a much greater chance of my clean phone data exonerating me than some random geolocation data or something incriminating me further. Enough of a chance that I would rather...

Encrypt and Lock Your Phone - Go to Jail

You really think that that little stuff would add up and become more of a problem than doing the 180 days in jail? I just don't see it personally and my choice would still be to comply in that case given those outcomes. I doubt I would survive in jail so I'd take my chances with my phone info.
