    My PC changed user accounts

If you're using an online MS account, maybe your son changed the name to his not thinking it would have any effect on your PC account? Not sure, that's a weird one.

'GTA Online' gets competitive F1 racing today

The last time I tried to do anything outside of Stunt Racing in GTA:O, I was blown up by rockets, lol. I haven't tried it in a while, but I did enjoy the stunt racing. No rockets. :)

The Final Fantasy VII Remake Demo is Brilliant

I'm taking a wait and see approach as far as purchasing. If it really is 50 hours or whatever without 47 hours of fetch quests, I might consider purchasing each part. Maybe. Otherwise, I see no reason to not just wait for the whole thing to be released before purchasing.

What Nvidia driver to use for Windows 10?

Additionally, you can find unknown devices by looking at the hardware ID in Device Manager and checking this: The first part is the vendor id. Intel's is 8086 for example. The next part of the hardware ID is the Device ID which shows the specific hardware. Just in case...

    Windows 95. Seriously

Glad you got it all sorted out. :) I don't miss those days at all, lol. I love that I can put Windows 10 on a USB flash drive and install it so much faster and easier. No master\slave jumpers to mess with, no IRQ junk. It's so much easier now, lol. Did you end up needing to install DOS or...

Going from Intel to AMD without reinstalling Windows 10

I just went from a 9700k to a 3900x and it was mostly smooth. I think I may not have my boot SSD set to GPT, so I had to turn on CSM in the BIOS, but that's a problem for another day. lol I had to put my Win 10 key in again, but it activated with no problems once I did that.

    Xbox game pass PC

That's really the only thing I don't like about the Xbox app. Hopefully, they change that since every other client of its type allows you to choose where you want your games and doesn't tie it in to some obscure Windows setting. Ugh.

So the takeaway is don't buy cheap POS PSUs? ;)

The "All the Things that Have Gone Wrong During Builds" thread.

Back when I was more inexperienced I shorted out a CD-ROM drive. I don't even remember how I managed that, lol. I grabbed the wrong modular cable for my PSU and killed two hard drives. I've been way more careful ever since! Just this weekend I upgraded my CPU to an AMD 3900x and was...

    System shock 3 Cancelled?

It does look like Otherside made Ultima Underworld Ascendant, which has a 37% on metacritic with a 2.1 user score. I don't know if they've done anything else, but that's not good.

How do you disable intro logos/movies in KOTOR?

I think because Bioware didn't focus on it and then they were bought by EA, who didn't care. There are rumors that there's a new one in the works. Even if it's true, who knows if or when it will be released...

    Doom Eternal

I'm the exact opposite. I won't pay more than the price for the vanilla game, at least if I buy at launch. If the DLC is worth buying, it will be on sale later and I "might" buy it then. As far as I'm concerned, the vanilla game is the full game. Any DLC is an expansion pack.

    Micro Center 2700X - $139, 3600 - $149 (In-store only)

I ran over to the MC here over the weekend to pick up a Ryzen9 3900x and mb combo. :) Even in Chicago, with the mb discount it was cheaper than ordering from Newegg or Amazon. I saved myself about $40.

comptia opposes right to repair bill

It doesn't, except when it does. I don't know how else to explain this. If the vocab of the hiring company means "required" it is required, again, regardless of what you think it should mean or the accepted definition. If you don't like it, you don't have to work there. Personally, I would...

comptia opposes right to repair bill

I feel like you're arguing semantics. If "Desired" means "Requried" then they are "Required" regardless of what you think the phrase should mean.

I'm looking forward to this, I have enjoyed his work since "What We Do in the Shadows", a mockumentary about vampires who live together. It's hysterical! :)

The Original Star Wars IX Script Has Allegedly Leaked. And It's Much Better Than The Rise of Skywalk

Agreed on all points. Thrawn would be amazing and people need to stop whining about things that don't exist. I have "SJW" friends and I have no idea what he's talking about with the metoo crap, lol. RoS was just bad and it had nothing to do with any politics.

What ya using your 1x slots for?

I had either a modem, NIC, wifi, or sound card that used x1 at some point in time. It was so long ago, I can't remember what it was now.

They'll come down if and when a competitor releases a lower priced card that perform as well as or better than what is available.

What was your least favorite graphics card?

ATI were great, AMD just isn't the same. I'm hoping they get their act together for their next GPU release, we need some competion on the high end to bring prices down.

Did you restart your PC in the middle of an update? That sounds like a really bad idea. At work we've seen 1909 take just a few minutes, but one of our guys says at home he had an experience similar to yours where it took forever. I don't know for sure, but I'm wondering if the update...

Millennium Bug (20yrs on) - Computerphile

I have yet to see any company take IT as seriously as they should. We just replaced our 30 year old analog system with VOIP system. First company I've worked for since 2006 that didn't have caller ID. We do now though. We're using a 30 year old billing system we've outgrown too. We're...

What was your least favorite graphics card?

My least favorite card was probably a Kyro II I had. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't well supported which led to some odd issues with some games.

PewDiePie quits YouTube saying he's too tired to go on

I watch a lot of Nerdcubed and Many a True Nerd for just that reason. There are probably more out there, but generally they aren't obnoxious and they don't show their faces while they're playing.

Modern Warfare Will Show You Your Kill-Death Ratio For $20

Laptop plugged into TV for games, cutting off corners of picture

When you have the laptop connected without a game playing, are the corners cut off? As someone else mentioned, you may need to go into your Display Properties in Windows to change the overscan. There's usually sliders you can use to adjust this once you find the setting. For 5.1 surround...

ArsTechnica: Google Stadia launch review: Gaming’s “future” looks rough in the present

Well, I stand corrected. I assume it's "supposed" to work via Chrome. Probably launch glitchiness. Either way, I don't really care. I don't think Stadia is going anywhere, especially when you can only activate your account via Pixel. :-O

Death Stranding (first title from Kojima Productions)

The grenades make sense within the context of the story though. The Monster Energy is just the product tie-in, so whatever, lol. So, I haven't played this yet, but I've been watching Let's Plays and I find it strangely compelling. I think I'm going to buy it and check it out.

    Playing Blu-ray on Windows?

Yes, that's what I do. However, do you understand the size difference between a bluray file and a 4k file? My bluray rips are usually 8GB or so (using AnyDVD and Handbrake to transcode them) and take about an hour or so per movie. 4k rips using the same process are also around 8GB and take...

    Playing Blu-ray on Windows?

It played fine after ripping, it was just playing the disc itself that I never got to work properly. I thought that I might just have a 4k disc or two that I could pop in and play once in a while rather than storing the huge rip on my hard drive. But, I was wrong. So very, very wrong. LOL...
