Can't find the answer, can anyone tell me if the new Surface Laptop 4 will work with a 1st gen Surface Dock?

Yeah I read that too, but was hoping since the Surface Laptop 4 was *just* released, I figured they haven't updated it yet either way. I haven't been in the office for a while, so I don't have the dock in front of my to look. I thought it had the Surface port on it, but could be wrong. I'll end...

Can't find the answer, can anyone tell me if the new Surface Laptop 4 will work with a 1st gen Surface Dock?

Have a Surface Laptop 2 for work, and am able to upgrade to the new Laptop 4. Just need to know if my current dock will work with it or if I need to upgrade that as well. Really don't want to if I don't have to.

Dual NIC question for a networking idiot

Thanks, I think I can make sense of that info. I really need to learn more about networking. No, I don't want interruptions at all. Even very minor interruptions we have seen in the past when power goes out and we switch from primary to secondary firewalls have caused our software to lose...

    25' DisplayPort cable run for 4k 60hz

No, we just remodeled and the computers are a little closer than before, but not much. I think I could get away with about 18 feet, but don't think 15 would do it. I'd have to try it I guess. It would be a tight run.

Dual NIC question for a networking idiot

Hey, I'm looking at going to a dual NIC setup at work. This would be 100% for redundancy, nothing else. One NIC would go to one switch, and the other NIC going to a backup switch in case of failure or power outage Do I need to get a dual interface card, or can I just get another random NIC and...

    25' DisplayPort cable run for 4k 60hz

Early next year I'll need to install 19 monitors that will be run at 4k 60hz. The current cables for them are 25'. I have a little slack, but don't think I can get down to 15', so I'll need to stick with 25'. I understand that 4k/60hz is hard to keep past 15'. I need it to be DisplayPort, as...

HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini PC

It's neither of those, checked it already. I honestly think it's going BSOD due to an external disk that's plugged in for Plex.

HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini PC

^ No RAID. Specifically avoided RAID because they're not any kind of RAID drive, so they're just running independent. I'll run some hardware tests when I get some time.

HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini PC

^^ Thanks, I might have to check that out. I did just power it up and look, and for the last 2 times it did leave a trace in the Windows logs. It wasn't doing that before. No mini-dump to analyze because it's failing to write it. But it does appear to be blue screening, I just can't see it...

Thanks! If I don't get any monitoring software suggestions I'll probably give it a try.

HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini PC

It's a clean install of Windows, so there's no HP software on it. I could boot to Ubuntu via USB and try that for a week, however I'd have to look into how to get my Plex library on it. I'd guess it's not that difficult.

HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini PC

Yeah...I thought about going that route. I'd really prefer to troubleshoot what it's doing though. Computer is still 2 years under warranty with HP. I've had them send a new power supply and new fans thinking it might be heat or power, but nothing there helped. I'm guessing that this point it's...

HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini PC

Hey, I have a mini HP computer that I use as a small Plex server. It's just me and the wife, so I don't need anything fancy to run what we watch, and this does it great. Anyway, it's not hooked up to a monitor, as I use it strictly as an RDP box to mange Plex. It is plugged into an HDMI port...

Looking to build a 8+ bay external enclosure

Wow I guess I wasn't aware of that USB 3.0 limitation. In that case the 8-bay is probably the best/cheapest option. I'd go with eSATA, however this PC I'm using doesn't have that built in and there's no way to add it. It's an HP EliteDesk Mini PC.

Looking to build a 8+ bay external enclosure

I'll check these options out. Not exactly what I wanted to do...but if it fits the bill then I'm okay with it. I've checked these out. My main concern is that reviews stated (on the 8 bay model, I think I read it on Newegg) that if one disk is failing, the entire JBOD drops. I actually have...

Looking to build a 8+ bay external enclosure

Hey everyone, I'm wondering if there's a good way to build something that will house 8 or more 3.5" drives and allow me to connect it via USB 3.0? I have a small powered micro PC already serving as a Plex Server, I just need to be able to connect more disks to it somehow. I'm open to other...

    New power supply problem

Yes! The new Corsair worked with no problems. It's left me wondering if the Seasonic power supplies he tried were actually defective, or if he was doing something wrong. He's pretty smart (he got me on a good start to PC building about 20 years ago), so I don't think he messed it up. He hasn't...

    New power supply problem

    New power supply problem

^Yes to most. He didn't do the paperclip test. Really wouldn't matter much, either it works in the computer or it doesn't. I figured the first power supply was dead. Didn't know what to think when the second one didn't work. Since the old one has always worked he just went back to it each time...

See post #12 above - I left out the drive letter when mapping. Instead of mapping \\server\drive\folder I just mapped \\server\folder and it worked.

    Domain help

I didn't. I think the GPO applied as it should have, it just claimed the user didn't have rights to the drive, when they really did. It kept working all through last night with the mapping leaving out the drive letter. I'll test it more today and see how it reacts...but I think it's solved. I...

Wow...it works if I leave out the drive letter I'm mapping and just add in the server name and folder. Which is weird because this is what Group Policy is set to do. Network help or recommendation

There is ventilation around it. It never feels too hit, but is usually warm. It is at the latest firmware. I'll do a reset and reconfig on my next day off. I wouldn't be opposed to a 3rd party firmware. I did that years ago with a different router and it resolved a similar issue.

I'm not opposed to any of that, really. If that's what I have to do then I'm happy to check it out. Before I go too far down that path I just want to make sure there's nothing else I'm missing with my current router. I just can't believe that after only 18 months it's gone to hell.

I've been looking into the mesh systems. They look great! However, I have a USB hard drive shared using the USB port on my router now, and I don't see any mesh system that has that same feature. Which is really lame. I'd just share it via one of my computers, but I don't keep any of them on...

Asus Rampage III Formula X58 - Memory config

Haha, I did this exact setup on a Sabertooth for years. It was awesome. Now I'm at 64GB 4x16 sticks on my x99. When I bought that 64GB kit, I thought it was pretty expensive at $350. Now they want like $900 for it. LOL! Anyway, I'd surely go with the 16GB. It's better in every way. Maybe if RAM...

    Video card suggestions

Funny you posted that, as that is one of the cards we currently run for 4 of the monitors. We have an NVS 310 to run the 5th monitor now. 4k 60hz 25' run

I've thought about doing that. The way our desks are set up, it won't allow us to do that easier. But we're likely remodeling in 6 months, so it's going to be taken into consideration for the new layout.
