    A case mod....sort of.

My buddy begged me to build him a Minnesota Wild themed arcade and it turned out pretty decent. The bottom comes off allowing full access to joysticks and easy removal of the tv if needed. Its sitting on a lazy susan type base I use just for taking pics.

I settled on 4.3ghz, which is a pretty nice OC. I could boot and poke around at 4.5 but decided it wasn't worth the effort. For some reason if I set my ram at more than 1.6 in bios windows won't recognize it. Doesn't seem to be an issue for overclocking though. My ram default says 1.65.

    Switch Refresh: 1366 Hexcore

Yeah, it was more like I had them so why not. Also all my fans run at 5v and is almost silent, however, the temps a just a non issue. Thanks for the feedback.

    Switch Refresh: 1366 Hexcore

Man, what happened to the mod threads? Not even one comment after years? Oh well, I just made some more changes and so I thought I would post pics anyway. I wanted to update the looks of the case and give it some detail so I wrapped it in carbon fiber and added some lighting. Current...

Some new benchmarks after I switched to a GTX 980. This is a really fun system and it makes my friend with a brand new i3 rig really sad. I was running OCCT in the background which is why temps are up. With 3 radiators this is as hot as it gets and my gfx card hasnt hit 40c yet. [/URL I...

I lucked out and got an Asus p6x68d-e from ebay for right at $100. I switched to the Xeon on my EVGA board because I already had it. Once the word got out all this hardware went through the roof. If it wasnt such a hassle I would just sell off everything and building a new system because I...

I know the timer was only on for a minute but this was after a few hours of stressing. I am pretty happy with the results and just added a GTX 980 to the mix. My temps are pretty amazing running through 3 rads. Not my most recent pic but only the gfx card has changed.

Nice fab skills. I like seeing actual case modding. I see the pics of components in the woods and set on concrete or grass and I am curious how many funny looks you get carrying PC components out in the woods for pics. Hahaha.

I currently have two X58 boards, an EVGA FTW3 and an Asus P6X58D-E. Currently running the FTW3 with a X5650 and it clocks pretty good, but seem to struggle above a 200blk. Any reason to think the Asus would do better or any other reasons to switch boards? Which ever board I dont use my son...

Benq XL2411Z 144hz gaming monitor for about $225 (TN panel)

Eyefinity doesn't appeal to me at all. I just was tempted to go dual monitor but didn't know if this would be wasted on a secondary.

Benq XL2411Z 144hz gaming monitor for about $225 (TN panel)

If I wanted to do dual monitors, but only game on one would two of these be overkill. If so what would be a good match to this for a secondary?

    $400 budget single vs dual

I really want to upgrade my aging 24 in Dell 1920×1200 monitor. I have always thought dual monitors would be awesome but I'm not sure I need them. I just do some run of the mill photo/video editing, some gaming with a watercooled 7970, and other general stuff. I would like to be able to turn on...

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

I am happy with my L5640 at 3.8 but I really wonder what I could do with an 22 or 23 muli with my cooling. I am seeing 26C idle and mid 60s under load with my fans at 5v. I really need to start from scratch and get some you experts to help me find my blck limit of my board so I can see how...

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

Interesting results. I disabled HT just to play around and I got a big jump in GFlops and temps are down about 10C under load. I am still seeing how low I can get my vcore and other voltages.

This was after running 3 consecutive runs of 10 on Intel Burn test. I am still lowering vcore to see how low I can take it.

1366 x58 Xeon Enthusiast overclocks club

The L5640 only runs at 17x, this is one of the reasons I am thinking about switching to an X5660. The low power Xeons just cant get that high with the low multi. I am running a 205 bclk but I am not sure my board can go much higher.

Why did my CPU all of a sudden decide it wants to boot at 19x multiplier? Update: Apparently Turbo was working and bumping the multiplier up, but I didnt realize it worked with Xeons.

Just installed my L5640 and have it at 17x200. Not sure how high it will go. I have the vcore a little high right now but check my bios and see if anything jumps out as needing a change. I might switch to the X5660 if I can't get a least 3.8 out of this one. Idle temps are 32C and 68C load...

Upgrading my loop while its down for maintenance.

Ok, one last question. I am planning on running my Corsair SP120s in push pull. I dont want to run a fan controller because I dont want to give up the room and have all the extra wiring to deal with. With as much surface area as I have I would like to just wire them at 5v. They are whisper...

Upgrading my loop while its down for maintenance.

Now I'm thinking I might go 2x 240 or for overkill's sake a 360 and 240. I know my swiftechs would handle the load but they have been used in a lot of rigs and seen better days. I could always use them my upcoming "wife" project.

Upgrading my loop while its down for maintenance.

Is there a formula or calculator to determine how much cooling is needed and what is overkill? If I was cooling cpu and 2 7970s what rads would work with my fans at 5-7v? I was thinking either 2 60 mm 240 rads or one 60 mm 360 rad. All with p/p fans at low speeds. I want some overclocking head...

Upgrading my loop while its down for maintenance.

I have only read a couple of times about rad frames that weren't straight. I have a nzxt switch 810 I'm thinking of doing a 240 on top and a 240 on the bottom with the sp 120s in p/p.

Thanks. I'll look at it. I have heard Alpha cool has had quality control problems, but I see a lot of people running their stuff. I'm also using a HK 3.0 LT which seems to still be a solid block even today.

Upgrading my loop while its down for maintenance.

After being gone for 6mo on my last deployment I decided to tear down my loop and change my fluid and tubes. While it was down I upgraded to a hex core 1366 Xeon and a 7970. I was using a D5, MCR320, MCR240, and MCR120 with medium YL. Temps were pretty good with my 930 and even better with...

    NZXT Switch: Maximum Subtlety

The name is supposed to be some sort of oxymoron. The idea behind the build was keep it understated and not too flashy, but go a little extreme. The hardware isnt anything super fancy, but run fast and does what I need it to do. I like that my lights and fans are all controllable. There are 3...

Looking at watercooling (first time WC build)

That sounds like a nice setup and the fact his temps are proven makes it better. I am still using a hot i7 930@4ghz so it is a bit more toasty than the newer chips. I would save up a bit more cash and follow the advice of Magoo. I have used Sidewinder a lot and never had any problems either.

Do my temps seems high? I think they are.

75C running 8 threads of Prime95 on one core the others run cooler. I am using RealTemp. I know that these are relatively safe and I rarely max out my system. I will be re-configuring things a bit and adding more cooling. I just want to make sure everything seems fine for now. I have another...

Do my temps seems high? I think they are.

I recently put together a rig and I have a HeatKiller 3.0LT, MCR320, 3 Med YL pulling, and a D5 cooling an i7 930@4ghz. My vcore is at 1.28, but my idle temps are hovering in the low to mid 30s and its 20C in my room. A 10 degree delta seems high for a cpu on a 360 rad. Is it possible to have...

Looking at watercooling (first time WC build)

I was never afraid of running a big loop. Its funny that everyone always suggested splitting my loop so I guess I just bought into the hype. This is my old setup as one loop and it did fine even with stacked rads and under powered fans. Sorry, didnt mean to hijack and get off topic...

Looking at watercooling (first time WC build)

This might be true, but there will be a lot of people that suggest it. I have never ran two loops myself, but I have always had more room for radiators. That just seems like lot of blocks for one pump/loop/ with only a 360 and a 240 rad. I tend to over build though so I am not disappointed...

Looking at watercooling (first time WC build)

Well, I can tell you that if you are planning on cooling SLI Titans, MB, and CPU then most people will suggest running two separate loops. That is a lot of heat for one loop and typically the shorter the loop the better. After looking at other water cooled Cosmos cases it looks like its going...
