this used to be that kind of place... fuck. i guess.
anyway, that config is fucked from the out set, putting vlans and a bridges on the same network segment is the literal definition of madness, providing they mean the same thing to the same vendors. which is why the MT stuff is bizarre in the...
Hi all! Been some time.
I've been struggling a lot recently trying to segment out my expanding flat network structure. The more I look at my home network the more I realise it needs some very well deserved best networking practice applied to it.
So, I've started to vlan off segments for...
oh i thought there was a like zraid 5 and zraid 6 or some convolution/iteration of those words and numbers. it's zraid with one disk for parity, if that's more accurate.
anyway thank folks, things i will need to check before migrating:
ZoL supports current HBA.
ZoL supoprts Version Pool should...
hi all, was hoping to get a yes no answer or maybe a nudge in the right direction.
i have an amateur zfs (raidz5) set up on freenas sitting on a white box in a rack.
what i would like to do is consolidate the data from the old server box onto a ubuntu server with zfs via zfs on linux.
need advice or thoughts on benching your machine, tools and how you go about it.
there so much out dated crap on the web that i could really so with some current input.
once i have run a back up, i will bench mark the crap outta my machine and see where the bottlenecks are, at the...
well i've used dameware and currently use altiris for remote control in corporate envrionments.
i'd have to give it to dameware, i think it runs a little lighter -more reliable better diagnostics for failures etc. both still install clients, however.
250$ delivered from ebay in the states, happy to link you if you want.
man i wishi got it when the dollar was higher.
oh well. ebay was a little cheaper than amazon i noticed. still couldn't find any viable supermicro's either so had to settle for this, a little more expensive but once it is...
well, i have gone with the intel SASUC8I as it was the only one i could get into aus; looking forward to see how pjkenned goes with the re flash, do let us know.
yay time to order the case, it'll be xmas before everything gets here.
argh, i've been sifting the forums and now want to move to zfs after reading most of sub's posts. i am just ganna have to get the free nas iso and mess around.
anywho; controllers, im think i will have to bite the bullet and check out amazon, since i cannot find any locally. add some more if...
need some HBA recommendations for a software nas.
it'll be the classic norco4020, software raid, free nas set up.
trouble is i cannot source any super micro controllers
so i was hoping some of you might pop in suitable recommendations
SuperMicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 PCI-X...
Appreciate your thoughts there , Jay. I know what you mean about some in the open source community.
Looking in on sw v hw raid, people seem really divided on the subject.
some in the s/w camp stating the raid controller is the biggest point of failure;
some in the h/w stating the os does...
im am pretty sure a nas is what i need to suit my archiving needs (large storage area with some redundnacy)
id like to share over linux and win os' (windows take priority though)
this is for home;
doesnt need to be particularly speedy read/write wise but i'd like increased performance...
could some one link me a good faq (including recommended requirements etc) for software v hardware raid arrays. i know it's pretty lazy, im hoping there is someone out there that has seen a good one peer review etc.
Cool, cool thanks for the starter, i might try and get two intel nics in, to up read write access. will see.
err max budget is flexible, it's not really set at the moment but so far it is sliding... up -.-
i needed to remind ME that it is a nas, otherwise i'd try to build a file server...
gosh you guys have just put the bullet thru the heart of this one.
did a bit of googling
can get the
Norco RPC-4020 Rackmount Server Chassis, No PSU - 4U
for 550 au $
back planes included and supports 20 disks
all i need is the mb plus extras, disks, raid controller and psu.
seems like a good...
so i think i finally have the time and capacity to build my own nas. didn't really wanna by one cause i reckon i can build one cheaper, better, etc.
with the good reviews of freenas why shouldn't i do it.
anyway i was hoping you all could chip in with some info, there is still a bit i...
is there any diff with the chipsets apart from the manuafacturer? what does nForce 780i as opposed to x38 bring to the party, (going by the spec i guess SLI lol) i was looking at this
ah, the [H]ard forums, always there when i need someone to turn to. :)
anyway i am out to get a 6600, i am not to sure about intel boards and need a little help. i think i need a X38 just to keep it ddr2 i dont know a lot a bout this standard, will it support sli? budget is not really an...
no i havent purchased anything, i was hoping that the phenom 9850 Black would yeild stable , reasonable and flexible mid term o/cing options compared with any other intel options in the same price range. the 6600 is just under 50 AUD cheaper than this chip where i am. if anyone cares to comment...
just to clarify, im going with this board as it seems to be the best availiable to me, for the processor or the MA790FX-DQ9 (which Kyle didnt rate too highly.) price wise we are looking at AU$ 300 for the proc and $270/260 for the board (AMD), or a comparable intel set up. thanks for the...
in this board?
just need a few people to bounce some thoughts off. is it worth building a system around this or should i jump to the intel setup...discuss. will the 9850 be tested under this board and vice versa...
my modem recently died and i replaced it with the above model. its running into a dir 655 router. my problem is that since changing deivces i cannot manage to portfoward on this device, or at least i try but it doesnt seem to be working. i've checked a couple of sites and the all point...
dir 655, cannot speak more highly of it, i have the broadcast range to low and it still covers the whole house sweet and still has full strength through a few walls, hope you enjoy it.
cant wait to give the switch a work out on a lan game
well, she's all up and running.
thanks to all who contributed, especially Orinthical.
the last question would be a network manager, anyone know a good open source one? is there thread i could check out?
running a trial of network magic and thats pretty handy, any links threads or recommendations...
ok correct me if im wrong with this one, i have a generic router modem from my isp see below, run that into the router and we shoud be go yeah?
does anone know a good sticky/site for modern modems only.
i understand the noun modem is a bit of a misnomer, i understand the concept of a router...
Hey all, have a new flat mate moving in soon, stating they want wireless. What better excuse to upgrade my current crappy network rig, right? So below i have pasted a couple of routers/switches supplied by my local store, ive read the sticky and well a lot, of them don't seem to be available to...
lol @ you, the market would have precluded any cpu chip AMD made that was inferior, ergo they must have made something right.
nb the intel advertisment in it
lotta hype around this one, if its making it this far down under i guess.
