    3060TI preorder at Kwest

So a website I've never heard of is offering a group discount on a product that automatically sells out in seconds. Seems legit. Take my money.

    HP system r5 3600, 8gb, 256gb, 3070 1216+ tax free shipping

I saw these systems in person at microcenter. They look pretty darn good really. They made me look twice. It would be tough to build one for that price assuming you buy your OS. My son wants to trade in a laptop for a gaming rig. I'm tempted.

My PC hot air exhaust project (vent hot air outside the room)

Man, those were the good old days of overclocking, weren't they? Now days we're excited when we can OC the memory controller to get a 10% performance increase.....

Mowing over high PPD folders from yesteryear

Ah. The pizza boxen. Legendary. I still spread boxen around the house. HTPC, gaming pc, server, all in different rooms with multi core CPUs and gaming GPUs. For the pernts.

It's cold outside, better throw a big log on the fire

I considered an alternate title: When people outside say "brr", the GPUs inside go "BRRRRRRRRRR"

Mowing over high PPD folders from yesteryear

Can I join the old timer talk? Always good to see the old names in here. I started folding on my hyperthreaded Pentium 4 3.0C. Two clients to take advantage of hyperthreading. I think I got around 300 PPD with that bad boy. Yes that's 300. Not 300k or 300 million. Hah. Lots of iterations...

AMD Radeon RX 6000 series for distributed computing

FAH just implemented CUDA on Nvidia GPUs recently, and there are thousands of Nvidia GPUs in use in FAH. It seemed to take them a very long time to figure that out, when there's been untapped performance waiting for optimization there. It would seem even less likely they will optimize for...

Are we sure CPUs don't bottleneck GPUs in FAH?

I know. I found a guy on Reddit who swapped my 3600 for the 3900X for a good deal. If I can get my hands on a 5900X I will buy it and sell the 3900X. I'm predicting availability on the Ryzen will suck as bad as everything else does right now though.

    DEAD WD Easystore 14TB $189.99

Dang. Great deal. Sub $14/TB. I don't think there's a better $/TB option out there. But my current 4x4TB still have 2 TB free...... AArgh. I'm going to hold off for now.

Are we sure CPUs don't bottleneck GPUs in FAH?

Good thought. Or, I could do what I am doing, which is swapping it out for a 3900X 🤣

Are we sure CPUs don't bottleneck GPUs in FAH?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I've been thinking....with the way today's CPUs boost (high single thread performance, lower all core performance), it wouldn't take too much variance for the GPU PPD lost to outweigh the CPU PPD gain.

Are we sure CPUs don't bottleneck GPUs in FAH?

I'm watching my GTX 1080 completely consume a core of my Ryzen 5 3600, and I'm thinking, I've been seeing this same behavior for years. It seems like every GPU has always taken 100% of a full CPU core of every CPU I've owned. Has anybody benchmarked CPU speed to see if CPU speed could bottleneck...

Folding with Nvidia cards = WOOOOOOOOO

You guys with 1070s are making my 1080 look bad, I'm only getting 1.4-1.5 mil. I was wondering why I was seeing such a boost. CUDA explains it. My old jet got a new afterburner!

The Mojo Story - Yes it's true

I feel like we might need to translate a few things for the younguns. "tbird" means AMD Athlon Thunderbird. A beast of a ~1GHz single core CPU. These were the best back in the day when the Intel Pentium 3 was hotter and slower. "Northbridge" refers to a separate chip on the motherboard that...

    Somebody's serving up Coronas?

I like mine with a lime please I heard about the availability of the COVID19 WUs and figured I'd toss a couple boxen at the problem. It's been too long since I've heard the whir of the fans spinning up other than gaming. Edit. My GPUs are idle. I guess the well of WUs is dry at the moment.

Slow real world NVME SSD performance

I'm using the "Dell" setting. About the only thing I could see affecting these results is the PCIe state power management, right? Edit: not to mention, if this is the Dell recommended setting, how could they recommend a setting that would result in drastically worse user experience? Ugh.

Slow real world NVME SSD performance

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming with an i5 and a Toshiba XG5 256GB NVME SSD. The PC is basically new, and out of the box, performance is sluggish. It seems to hang at odd times (5 seconds to open Chrome, for example), but it's erratic (at other times, Chrome loads instantly). To me...

It’s getting cold, time to fire up the GTX1080

Hey guys. Been a while. I loaded up the Windows FAH client and I’m getting around 500-600k PPD. Is that an optimized production level? Are there other projects I should be supporting instead? I also have the old opteron 48 core beast in the basement. Is there anything worth doing with...

I'm seeing Core_21 is 0% stable on the latest 375.95 driver (which supposedly includes a hotfix for a memory bug). Core_18 seems to complete units correctly. I'm hoping 373 fixes it. I'll give it a shot.

Good to see the familiar names as always. Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm really sorry to hear about grandma. Sad I missed the chance to pay tribute. Cypher- do you have your card over clocked? I've seen this behavior on my GPUs when the over clock goes unstable and the card drops down into...

    It's that time of year....

The house was getting a little cool so I figured it would be a good time to throw a few rigs at F@H again. It won't be much, but probably enough to put me in the top 15 or so PPD wise. So, what have I missed? Who's this grandma I'm looking up at?!? That's embarrassing. What's this I hear...
