Latest version of Mint Cinnamon. I have absolutely no F#$#%$KING use for this stupid feature. It forces me to enter my password before connecting to a network share and also, presumably, is keeping the share password from saving. Google has lots of hits on how to do this but as usual, none of...
So I'm playing around with Kodi and I've run into a problem. I think I've seen this before. I have a second drive in the box called "DATA". I copied some movies into a folder called 1Temp on DATA, When I browse from within Kodi to add files to the library "DATA" is not an option. However, DATA...
Thanks, will try and report back. I did notice that, according to Angry IP Scanner, there are no ports open on the box in question. It say [N/A], I guess that could mean something else.
Linux Mint Cinnamon to Linux Mint Cinnamon. Both latest version and both up to date. I'm getting a message that says :"Permissions on this share do not allow others to access it". Nothing I do in the Permissions tab has any affect. The shared drive shows up on the other computer but I cannot...
Thanks. Won't be needing much more than manage shares and network config. Server health monitoring would be nice but there's always IPMI for that. Gonna throw together a box and play around with it.
Think my biggest obstacle to dumping Windows completely will be Server OS. Don't think I can handle a CLI only OS which seems to be all Linux offers. Then again if I dig deeper in FreeNAS Jails maybe it will work. I also still maintain a Windows 7 box for a few games but I'll be exploring Wine...
Was happy to discover that Linux networks flawlessly with FreeNAS which I use for my media server. Everything works perfectly and that annoying ever so slight jerkiness is completely gone, video and audio are butter smooth. Microsoft is now completely out of the picture in this part of my life...
Thanks. In this distro it's called system monitor. Just added it to the desktop. Sure hope they fix whatever is causing this before I head to greener pastures.
Just recently upgraded to the latest version of Mint Cinnamon and I'm not a happy camper. Among other problem I keep getting random program hangs and don't know how to close them. These are just program hangs, not system hangs. Does Linux have a task manager? System was rock solid before the...
I also believe that any password program is going to give someone else access to your passwords. All software calls home to upload your info to it's maker.
I've never had a Firefox account. Don't really like the idea of storing my passwords on somebody else's server. I've been opening the XML file when I need a password. Sooner or later I'll have them all back in. I stayed with FF 52.9 ESR for as long as I could. FF pissed me off when they decided...
Might be pissing in the wind here but thought I'd consult the experts before giving up.
Just upgraded to the latest version of Mint Cinnamon. I was using a firefox addon call "Password Exporter" to manage my passwords. It exports the password list to an XML file. Apprently the newest version...
It won't be long now before you'll have no choices at all. You'll do as MS wants you to do or you won't do at all. The Sheeple are being led to the slaughter and most are totally clueless.
Thanks. Yep, it's still updating. I'll read the release notes and then decide. In the past I've opened up a can of worms more than once jumping a version number. Kinda like to not step in it this time but 20.?? has been out for a while so maybe it's worth making the jump.
Thanks. Saved for future reference.
I managed to get it sorted out. Main problem was I didn't know the syntax to map the USB drive and then to switch to it. These 2 pieces of knowledge were nowhere to be found but I did find lots of bogus, bullshit info. Like I needed to boot off the USB drive...
My apologies if this is the wrong forum. :(
I need to flash the SAS HBA Firmware on a Supermicro motherboard and I need to do it from the UEFI shell. Problem is I can't switch to the damned USB drive to run the commands. I've googled this and have found nothing that works and an ass load of...
Anybody who has ever done this knows you won't get back into Windows. I went searching for a solution and found tons of them and they all involved editing a registry entry that does not exist in Windows Server 2012 R2. So I kept looking and stumbled upon this web page -...

Open your eyes and see where Microsoft is leading us all. Our freedom is slowly being eroded away and Microsoft (and others) are leading the way. If you can't or won't see this I have nothing further to say to you.
Setting up a brand new Acer laptop for a friend and it will not allow me to install apps from anywhere but the Microsoft store. I've Googled till I'm blue in the face and the bottom line is none of the settings used to change this are in this laptop. Can anybody me? Please.
Don't have them mounted, just strategically placed as best I could. They sound damn good. Don't know if I'd gain anything by mounting and precision locating them.
