    questions about cutting case door

I wish I could speak intelligently about air tools... but this job could easily be accomplished with a 4 1/2" hole saw and a drill. They are a bit pricey, but if you don't have access to one then I would tape up the panel, draw your rectangular cutout from a template and use a jig saw with a...

    LL PC-A05N to fit HD5870 cards ?

According to 3DGameMan, the HIS 5870 is 11". I just measured my GTX 260 and it's 10.5" with about 3/8" to spare before the HDD cage. So, my guess is no it will not fit without removing the HDD cage. Usually, the 16x PCIe slot is the first one, but if you have another slot below it, and move...

    Thermaltake Level 10 Price is.....

I think at that price they are targeting the elitist market, or extreme enthusiasts who are willing to pay that much money. That being said, what exactly do you get for $800? Are you paying for innovation, or uniqueness, or extreme cooling or ... ? It's kinda like the "I Am Rich" iPhone...

That thing looks fantastic! it is stock Lian Li? I thought about taking the scrap that I have left over from the side panel window and somehow making my own cover.

easy way cutting through plastics without melting it in process?

I've never used one but I would think a hacksaw or coping saw would allow you to get a nice straight line. A rotary tool will melt the plastic if you go too fast!

    dugn's Corsair Obsidian Build

After reading this thread I attempted to take apart my EVGA GTX 260 to paint the red as well but I couldn't remove the heat sink from the plastic. There are some little itty-bitty screws that I couldn't remove. So I got pwned. Was is a PITA for you too?

Build Log – Corsair Obsidian 800D Liquid Cooled Dual Loop System

Dude that sucks... I have the same problem with my XSPC 360 radiator in my ATCS 840 build. Having not seen your setup, have you tried some of the rotary fittings, or splice some fittings together so that you could make room for your optical drive?

Sorry if someone has already replied to this post but it doesn't have to be round... you can make a rectangular cut out. Refer to one of A.C Ryan's templates here for ideas.

    Looking for new htpc case.

If you are going for a true home theater case, to watch blu-ray and a tv tuner I would take a hard look at the Silverstone Lascala line. I have the LC-13E and it works great in a cabinet. Are you going with a micro ATX motherboard? If you want a tower or something you can also put a standard ATX...

First Full Case Mod & Worklog Attempt

That's a good job dude. What paint gun / compressor are you using. I am interested in getting setup with one for my own use and have no idea where to start. Also, are you wet sanding the finish here? It looks great... darn the wife for not getting the camera back and not getting paid weekly!

First Full Case Mod & Worklog Attempt

I agree with others... that paint job is top notch! It looks like you are using a spray gun, are you also baking the paint or letting it air dry? This is excellent work so far!

help me choose a fan controller

I would not think it would stick out like a sore thumb. However that's a matter of opinion. I would definitely do it considering the size of the front bay device vs the case is small and having a different finish would not bother me. If it were a different color altogether then yes I would...

help me choose a fan controller

Those are all good controllers. I have the black 5.25" Kaze Master Ace and it's great for the price. I've got 3 fans one channel and 1 fan on the other 3 channels and it handles them great. The NZXT Sentry 2 and Aerocool Touch 2000 is a bit overkill for me as I'm usually set-it-and-forget-it...

case for i7 system and 8800 gtx.

Would definitely give the Storm Scout / Silent Master 600W combo a serious consideration. If you don't, then I would recommend a modular power supply. Since it doesn't sound like you will have a ton of hardware it will help in tidying up a fangled mess of unused cables. I really like the Corsair...

case for i7 system and 8800 gtx.

Agree with M0rph3us. There are a ton of cases out there... so if you're looking for a "buget" steel case then the Cooler Master RC 690 is fantastic as it has room for full length video cards and it looks nice. Are you gonna be water cooling down the road? If not then a newer mid tower is...

Looking at the first post back on 4/23/09 to 9/15/09 has it as 18 weeks +/-. It's a fantastic build and I'm sure there are some things you would do differently looking back, but it looks great. What do your non-techie friends say when they see your stuff?

Need advice on wet sanding a powder coated finish

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought too! Then, I ran across this worklog post and it's what gave me the impression that it was a mainstream method. The case is the same aluminum as my Lian Li. I posted a question on that worklog and haven't heard back yet on how he did it.

You read my mind. I was thinking the exact same thing on this one... I was surprised that E.E.L. hasn't made his own pump housing from cast acrylic. But oh well, we'll have to settle for some vinyl sticker I guess. Everything looks fantastic. Look forward to some studio pics. Oh, and you...

Need advice on wet sanding a powder coated finish

Thanks for your reply however powder coat is paint, just without the solvent. Yes, I've read many times about people wet sanding a powder coated finish, I just thought someone who has done it before on a computer case could share about their experience.

Need advice on wet sanding a powder coated finish

I just had my Lian Li PC-A05N powder coated and it's got some orange peel visible. I want to wet sand the panels to get a smoother finish. The case panels were originally anodized and I think there was 3 coats of powder applied. I've got 400, 800, 1000, and 2000 grit 3M wet/dry sand paper and a...

Paul, the build looks fantastic. Every "T" was crossed and every "I" dotted. Well done! Question for you: what was your process for wet sanding a powder coated finish? I just got my panels back from getting powder coated and gonna wet sand them as well to get a little of the orange peel out...

    Coolermaster ATCS 840 question

Yes that's true! However, I'd rather unclick a couple of connectors than remove every component and then the entire motherboard. Instead of using anything adhesive, I got cable clamps and screwed them into empty threaded holes on the back because I move the wires around if/when I add something.

Need websites that test & compare cases

Go to youtube and look for user 3dGameMan. He has extensive (maybe too extensive) video reviews on almost every case. He goes into great depth about each feature. If this is too cumbersome for you, you can also check out, although they mostly review HTPC / mini-itx...

    Can you spraypaint noctua fans?

Resurrecting an old thread here... I'm getting ready to paint my fan blades to match the color scheme of my build. Question, do you sand and prime the fan blades before using plastic spray paint? Does anyone have any experience with this?
