Make sure you have a good mouse to make use of these high-refresh screens.
Over the weekend I returned my 1+ year old Logitech G-Pro Mouse at Best Buy (Geek Squad Warranty) and put my credit towards the new Superlight. It wasn't instock and would arrive in 4 days (arrived today).
During the...
Dang, I had to turn down the pick-up from UPS on the 1st monitor just now.
I initiated the return online yesterday. But I haven't received any email with details on preparing the item for return, yet UPS already showed up to get it with a label. I could of quickly taped it up, but without...
I was glad to learn it wasn’t as bad as the less scientific test done in that one review. I think he was mostly saying he felt a difference between the other LG monitor he had.
Checking RTINGs 38WN95c, that one had slightly better input lag over the AW...
RTINGS will have their AW review up in a few days as well. Currently it's in early access as it's being finished:

Here's some variable backlight testing, AW Mode 0, plus an example from the LG 38WN95c
AW Difference between Top and Bottom Zones:
At first glance, it looks like a full column of light, as if the top and bottom are are equally lighting up.
Though, if the cursor is close to the edge, then it's...
Using the Eizo test, the gamma on my two AWs seemed to be about 2.3. I don't think I can judge the response test since that's hard to interpret. At fasted scroll, If I were to judge based on when the blurry edges just start to touch, but not bleed into each other, I was leaning towards a 25...
Here's some new comparisons photos between the two AW38s. I'll get that local dimming example up after this.
Backlighting
Viewing Distance (IPS GLOW)
Display 1 - Less glow on left side, standard amount on right, if not maybe slightly more spread towards the left.
Display 2 - IPS glow is feels...
That's the local dimming. On a black screen it dims each zone to near off, but a white cursor triggers the zones it is under.
Modes will have different effects:
Mode 0 - Dims to near black, when a zone lights up, the others will remain near black
Mode 1 - Dims to near black, when a zone lights...
That sucks :(
Did the box show any damage that would caused that crack?
Hopefully you can still get some quick impressions of the screen to compare with your replacement.
I'll review some videos I took earlier of both the WN and AW and make a few gifs to see how they behaved.
Curious to see even a picture if yours with the say a black screen and cursor at the top edge.
Quick Update on LG 38WN95c vs AW
HDR Black Crush?
I ran the Shadow of the Tomb Raider benchmark multiple times between these two screens. The experience was mostly the same, no major difference. I had to set the game brightness to full once HDR was turned on, same as on the AW. Considering the...
Initial Impressions of 2nd AW3821DW, glad I jumped on ordering it, appears to better in several ways.
Color Temp:
2nd AW has a warmer and more pleasing color temp (I'd say closer to what I experienced on the LG WN. With the 2 AW screens side-by-side, same settings, you wouldn't think they were...
I was confused what Smart HDR was too, it's not any kind of unique HDR mode. Dell is over-complicating a basic functionality with an odd name. It just means the monitor recognized an HDR signal and switched to the correct settings for HDR. (locking brightness slider, whatever picture mode you...
Ordered a 2nd AW monitor to test. Should be here Friday if Dell doesn't delay it and ship 3-day instead of Next Day again.
Going to be interesting to have 2 of the same screens side by side to really see how they can differ due to panel lottery.
I still have the LG WN setup next to the...
Hmm, this new price is 95.29 from my current AW3821DW.
Is it crazy to order a 2nd one to see which has the best panel, and/or possibly save $95.29 when returning the first one? (Edit: Unless there's a chance Dell will apply a restocking fee>)
Only thing bothering me on the current one is a...
Thanks, I set it to not-scale. Though, I also had to set the resolution there to 2560x1440. If I left it at 3840x1600 and opened say Fall Guys at 2560x1440, full-screen, it still scaled. I guess some how the monitor was still displaying 3840x1600 due to either Windows and/or G-Sync.
Okay, ran the demo benchmark for Tomb Raider.
SDR Game - Default Graphic (high)/Display Settings (Windows HDR on)
Scene 1 - Looked good. SDR probably helped this night scene. Could see details in nearly all the areas
Scenes 2 & 3 - Looked good
HDR Game - Default Graphic (high)/Display...
Scaling and Aspect ratio controls?
Just realized I can’t find standard controls for scaling, stretching, 1:1 and so on.
Say you got a game that only runs 16:9, and 2560x1440 is your highest option, this means it will always upscale. What if you wanted the pixels 1:1 for clarity?
I don’t own Shadow of the Tomb Raider, though the demo might have the benchmark based on what I looked up (downloading now). I can get Gears 5 with Game Pass, but it requires 110 gigs, so I may I’ll hold off on that one right now.
No speakers, but I believe the audio is for a headphone jack under the middle front of the monitor, between the two extra USB ports, around that downward light strip.
Open Color Management in Windows 10 (hit Windows key and start typing for it), I think you can remove it there, or at least replace it with standard sRGB 2.1 profile. There's also a checkbox "Use my settings for this device" that might disable the custom ICC. I don't have any profile added so I...
When I installed the ICC profile for the WN95c, colors looked immediately pale. Red just didn't look red anymore. So I'm hesitant to see what Dell has provided.
I might look into a device for color calibration in the future, but otherwise I've left everything as is and just using the Nvidia digital vibrance slider as needed.
Is there a specific colorimeter that works with this type of display (nano-IPS)?
I can see it with my eye while recording and with the playback at running at the full 240fps on the 144hz screen. I had planned to use slow-mo to show what was happening, as standard frame might skip over the quick flickers. But as you see, even after screen recording the video file (not sure...
Finally attached the AW to the Ergotron HX arm and cleaned up my desk. After I attached it to the arm, I couldn't adjust the tension on the main upper arm. Seemed more difficult than when I bought it, in clockwise or counter clockwise. I'd start to hear something else move slight left or inside...
Tried to capture some flickering in HDR mode, Mode 0, desktop.
I had recorded at 240fps - played back at normal speed - (Overkill) - so when using SnagIt to capture and convert to a GIF at 15fps, many of the small subtle flickers are lost. But you still see some large instances across the top...
Earlier I searched for other sRGB complaints with Dell monitors and came across one for another gaming Dell monitor. A Dell representative responded basically saying there was no plans to add sRGB emulation to avoid changes to the FreeSync Premium Pro requirements, unless they disable certain...
It seems buggy for dimming zones to briefly flicker during some desktop movement when the overall desktop and apps are bright enough to where there should be a change.
Hopefully this can be addressed in firmware updates?
That Alienware Command Center software seems to have installed itself. Appeared this morning after shutting down my PC with a Windows Update.
I was hoping it had more on screen controls for the monitor, but seems to be all about the lighting FX, plus minimal power options that Windows usually...
I have a Wacom Cintiq 24 right now. Haven’t used it as much as I intended due to time and stress with my main job. I put the Ultrawide on an arm to free up desk space to move the Cintiq around.
I’ll test and see if I can capture any flickering on the desktop with HDR on, using any methods mentioned above.
Trying to trigger it yesterday, with an overall green background image, I’d drag a small window from left to right and right to left, and as I moved across, every dimming zone would...
What was the price for the upgrade to 5 years, did you do during check our or added later? I recall seeing it during check out, but hesitated, thinking maybe I should call later to see if pricing is flexible on it (As I remember someone saying they got it added free for some reason).
I need to...
Here's one bug I experienced with Windows 10 HDR button using the AW.
HDR already on
Open Display Settings (Intending to lower SDR brightness)
HDR button shows off, but I know it is on
If I click a 2nd monitor (LG OLED TV) and click back to the AW, the HDR button is suddenly on again
It might...
Sounds very similar to experience I had between the same two monitors, even down to the bad blacklight bleeding on the LG (Pic in my post above yours)
I'm confused on your Nvidia Control Panel comment regarding game saturation. Are you saying you can't use it to lower the saturation for games...
Actually being able to use 75hz 38UC99 probably would be a nice upgrade over 60hz and make it easier to wait longer for a perfect monitor. But it was never made G-Sync compatible and if you tried to set 75hz, more often you’d end up with stutters.
Regarding the stand, I was using the 38WN95c as...
I haven't used any desktop screen snapping tools. For the most part, I enjoy running most Adobe software full screen. Works great for 3D software like Modo, so much room to have tool panels on the both sides and still enough room to split the viewport down the center. For browsers and other...
