UPGRADE 5930K to 5960X or Xeon make a difference for gaming

It's like a hundred bucks maybe after selling off the old chip. Compared to most of the overpriced crap and dumb ideas I've seen pushed on Hardforum over the years, it's hardly a huge deal or a terrible idea. At least you can buy a 5960X...

UPGRADE 5930K to 5960X or Xeon make a difference for gaming

Okay....like that was uncalled for. This is meant to be fun. Just a cheap upgrade. Never said I ran games.

UPGRADE 5930K to 5960X or Xeon make a difference for gaming

You got the V6...but are you man enough for the V8?;):D Look at the end of the day when you hand that X99 rig on or sell it you'll have it running with one of the best CPU options it can have. As I said elsewhere, it's not that expensive to do. In the few benches I did (I'm not big into them, I...

Fastest M.2 for Asus Rampage V Extreme X99

Noooooo. I bought my 5960X for £185 and sold my 5820K for £65 so it cost me...£120 (say $140).

Anyone still running an X99 Broadwell-E system?

I must admit I'm currently only running my 5960X at 4GHz (both CPU and cache) with 1.25v. I was running it 4.4GHz CPU and 4.2GHz cache but I'm not really doing much gaming currently so throttled it back. I could throttle it all the way back to 2GHz for what I'm doing but...

Why doesn't Microsoft want people to create local accounts?

Seems pretty clear and straightforward to me. But I'm not always looking for conspiracy theories. They are bad for your health. ;)

Why doesn't Microsoft want people to create local accounts?

Did a Home instal of 20H... yesterday. Offline/Local option was present bottom left of the Account creation screen. I don't hook any machine up to the internet till I get to the desktop. Always done it that way.

Why doesn't Microsoft want people to create local accounts?

Having built around 20 machines overt the past few months with the latest Windows 10 installer, the Offline account option has been there every time. Has not been an issue for me.

Are we going to see good Intel processors anymore?

Can I just ask...how much better do they need to be already? How many of us are actually really struggling here like we may have been back in say 2002? Now waiting for the two folks that process 8K video "all day" for some obscure reason, and the ones that feel they need to go from 200FPS to...

Anyone still running an X99 Broadwell-E system?

Was running a 5820K X99 system since early 2016. I got a massive inheritance in March (still more to come) but instead of building a whole new rig I just got 32GB (4x8) of DDR4 3200 to replace the 16GB of DDR4 3000 and swapped the 5820K for a 5960X. Cost about £150 to do. Will swap in a better...

Should the 5700xt be considered one of the greatest of all time?

RX480! Spawned many tweaked rebadge versions. Plus they sold a megaton of them. I was a member of another tech forum and most of us on there were using them. Never seen that on a forum before. It was the right card at the right time. There hadn't been a really good priced mid-range 1080p card...

What Paste Application Method do You Use in 2020?

What freaks me out is when I see YouTubers using a q-tip to spread the paste leaving cotton fibres in the paste which for that purpose....noooo. Why not just sprinkle a few pubes into it too.

You can knock that out in the Notifications section. Just another one of the 49 steps I have to take day on day to setup machines for customers.

Why doesn't Microsoft want people to create local accounts?

The latest issue of W10 does have the local account option enabled bottom left. I think the version before hid it for a while and you had to use the no internet trick to get it but then they updated the installer and it came back later.

Why doesn't Microsoft want people to create local accounts?

Every machine I build goes out with just local accounts. I only use local accounts. I love it when people hand me their laptop to fix whatever and I then ask for the password for the Windows account "A_User@gmail.com" and get told "I can't give you that, as it's my email password!" The...

    ssd partitions and longevity?

Dont worry about 2010 thinking. Just get the SSD and use it. Wear and tear isn't really an issue unless you are a data centre. Just get a decent quality MLC/TLC flash SSD and enjoy. Samsung Evo or a Crucial MX500 will do you just fine if you go SATA type. Do it NOW!;)

    UK looking to ban scalpers

Yeah, as I said earlier on I don't think this legislation is really aimed at GPUs and luxury items. I think they picked those items because they resonate with the public right now. I think the more likely specific targets are things like PPE and safety/medical equipment.

    Is overclocking FINALLY dead?

Like a lot of things now it's the law of diminishing returns. If your system at stock gives you 150FPS why bother spending a load of time messing around, the power draw and extra heat stress to go to 155FPS? Back in the day when you could push Quake from 25FPS to 35FPS with a dip switch and it...

Saw my first 3070 in the wild yesterday. Some guy dropped his 13 year old sons new gaming PC round for me to get working. It wouldn't switch on. A tale of two NAS - Budget and MidRange and the performance delta between them

Yeah people tend to forget about the pipe it all has to pump that data through. They get way too wrapped up in the fancy hardware. "Oh wow I know, I'll put SSDs in my NAS for top speed, they are good for 550MBps and I'll go RAID0 too!" ..99MBps all day long...

    UK looking to ban scalpers

I would argue this is a way to protect against scalping for other items in the future like PPE etc. Picking items the public really give a damn about helps push that through and raises awareness. Whether it's a good thing, dunno. I'd never be dumb enough to pay over retail for anything in the...

Will a hard drive slow down if there is not enough free space?

I've never used more than 30% of a drive but most drives I roll out to users that havent a clue and gladly fill a drive up with junk. So I think a bit of extra spare empty space may help stop things like TRIM grinding to a halt making things worse.
  34. D

Will a hard drive slow down if there is not enough free space?

    This is why I still extra over-provision my drives slightly to give the controller more room to breath. 2GB - 120GB 3GB - 240GB 5GB - 480GB 10GB - 1TB and so on. It's not much but just a thing I do.

Hardware cloning system SSD good idea?

Yeah I clone HDD/SSD to SSD all the time in cloning docks or USB to USB/SATA to USB. All work fine. No way could I upgrade all those customer machines to SSD with clean installs and data copies. The only issue I've ever had is NVMe to NVMe cloning. But I've only done that a couple of times on...

Get on Ebay and get a 5960X and trade your 5820k in against the cost of that. It's what I did 6 months ago. No regrets. Mine runs 4.4GHz at 1.2v just fine. Plus you get those extra PCI-e lanes too!
