Great deal. Have had one of these for a couple months now and very pleased. I have had many soundcards in the past as well as DIY DACs and amps and this is by far the best combo for the money if you are on a PC. Drives my HD580s very well.

Can these be overclocked?

I think windows 8 is awesome aside from the useless Metro UI. Do away with that and people won't complain. Windows RT has a use for metro ui, not desktop version.

At that resolution avoid 1gb/gpu cards. Keep an eye on newegg refurbs and open box, there was a 7950 for 300 deal a few days ago.

Actually that's not true. Air is an excellent insulator, even if you apply too much thermal paste it's a very efficient heat conductor.

Yup a lot of people thing I'm noob for saying my 5850 @ 1GHz is still pretty good....but it's they who are the noobs. Especially since I bought it for 180 almost 1.5 years ago.

I have had many XFIs and their amp circuit is decent though I replaced the opamp. It drove my HD 580s just fine. I would look into a set of used HD 600s or similar, maybe Goldring DR150. Try those with your card first before getting an amp.

I for one choose to forgo the Cancer Ray Tube.

Which headphones and what's your budget?

On average the i5 is slightly faster....but in a few games it;s dramatically faster.

There will NEVER be a multichannel pair of headphones worth buying. I guarantee you these are overpriced trash just like all other "surround" headphones.

At that resolution I'd go for a 7950 3gb and clock the nuts off it. Crossfire is a lot of fun but trust me, you won't regret going back to a solid single card.

There are potential problems for sure, but it's a lot better than it has been in the past. Most people just can't forget the problems they had awhile ago.

For anyone with a decent power supply and a large case there's no reason not to get 2 cards. I have a Silverstone FT02B and mATX board which is the ONLY reason I am not crossfire.

Wherever you got that info..well it's wrong. 1280 SP with VLIW4 architecture is not going to outperform a 6950 unless it's clocked far, far higher.

The 7850 actually has a 249 msrp and only has 1280SP....I don't see it even beating even a 6950, however I'm sure it will overclock extremely well.

did you even read what I said about overclocking. The 6870 barely has any headroom while the 5850/70 have loads.

6950 2gb is a better buy imo

I'd get a used 5850 over a 6870. Most 5850s will do close to 1GHz and the 6870 needs to be around 1.2GHz to match it which obviously is impossible.

There is no way he is getting 60fps average with 4xAA enabled. My 5850 is at 1GHz and I can't do that.

Ignorant person is ignorant. Anyway I don't really know why people are surprised the 7970 is priced the way it is....it's faster than the GTX 580 with no competition, did you expect it to be cheaper?
