Radeon RX 6800 XT Hits 2.8GHz Overlock On LN2 To Smash 3D Mark Fire Strike Record

^ I'm with Zarathustra. It used to be that we here at the [H] didn't really respect an OC unless there was a screenshot showing 24 hours of Prime95. I'm not sure what the equivalent would be for a GPU - Furmark, maybe? There's a completely different level of insane between "Holy cow I got it to...

    No volume control through HDMI-CEC?

I just bought a Sony A8H to replace our ancient TV. I can't get the Xbox One to send any volume commands to it via HDMI-CEC or the TV to accept any via IR. (IR out on Xbox connected directly to IR-in on TV.) Power on/off works just fine through the Xbox. It's just volume that's wonky. I'm not a...

    Frustrating Apple calendar issue

I'm guessing it's sync'd through iCloud. Turn off calendar syncing on iCloud then delete it from every iCloud device you have. Then delete it from https://www.icloud.com/calendar/ . Then wait a few minutes and re-enable syncing.

    macOS Catalina

For what it's worth, as of last night Apple fixed the issue. Also, getting Windows 10 installed on a PCIe drive was surprisingly difficult. I had to: Boot into MacOS Create a Windows installer USB thumbdrive Format the PCIe drive for GPT/HFS Boot into recovery mode Enable booting from external...

    macOS Catalina

I finally found an issue with Catalina. It's un-installable. I blew away the onboard SSD on my Mac Pro 7,1 and found out when I went to reinstall the OS that it can't be installed right now. Apple's servers are having issues pushing out one of the files (InstallESDDmg.pkg). You can download the...

    Post Your Mac Setup!

I bought the CalDigit TS3 so that I could use my single Apple monitor instead of the three 1440p 144Hz "gaming monitors" I was using. I'm probably the only person in existence to go from a triple monitor setup to a single, without any size increase, and to pay extra for the privilege.

    What's next?

I've not paid attention to GPUs in about 5 years. Looks like nVidia's got the 30x0 series coming out soon. AMD's last card release was the 5700XT a year ago. Is there any news from the red team, or are you pretty much stuck on team green for the high-end market? edit: My Google-Fu was weak...

    [H]ard Forum Storage Showoff Thread

Damn, electricity where you live is expensive. This pulls about 10-11A (120V) under full load and our electric bill for the whole house is only like $150/month: It idles at around 9A, so your 3A per server estimate is actually pretty much spot on. edit: Ignore me. I see what you were getting...

._ files on NFS prevent use of share

If I recall correctly, MacOS doesn't support NFS v4.1 or higher. I also recall reading that Apple's not putting any further development work into NFS support, and that any support will be deprecated soon. I thought it was going to be in Catalina, but maybe whatever page I was reading was jumping...

._ files on NFS prevent use of share

This is an odd one for me. I'm connecting to a CentOS 8 NFS share from a MacOS Catalina box, and I've noticed that if any ._ files exist on the share, I can't use the NFS share. Even connecting to it times out. If there are no ._ files, I can connect and get a directory listing without any...

Netflix Test Varying Play Speeds: Makes Filmmakers Mad

I'm one of those people that watches at 1.5x speed. Specifically, anime. Look, I don't understand the language anyway, and I can read the subtitles in 1/10th the time it takes the character to speak. The rest of the time, I'm watching a still frame with a moving mouth. It's frustrating. Imagine...

"Always on" tweak for Apple Watch?

Looking for a way to keep an app running on my Apple Watch series 3 all the time without the screen dimming or turning off. The wrist-flick motion works about one in four times, and it's annoying as hell. Since you can't do custom watch faces, I've been using something that is basically a...

I actually did go looking. All I could find were sites that guessed, or rumors, or "Our analysts claim...". Nobody seemed to actually KNOW. I am still using my iPad 2 from 2014. Are people upgrading iPads?

I've got my iPad Air (A1474, MD786LL/A, basically the 2013 model), and I hate using it. Loading a web page is an exercise in frustration - Safari crashes on the regular. I'm guessing it's because there's just not enough RAM. Chrome's not any better. iOS upgrades make it worse, and you can't...

    No display from GPU

I bought a 1x->16x riser doodad (the kind the miners use) and tried the card in all four slots. No joy. It's still not detected by Windows at all. No display from GPU

Via the OP (probably should have worded it better): FWIW, the onboard VGA works just fine, regardless of if the value is set to prioritize offboard or onboard graphics. I even updated the BIOS to the latest and greatest just in case that was related. I do not have another PC with which to...

Building a home vSphere lab - licensing?

Engadget: Apple finally reveals the new Mac Pro

None of what you upgraded is required to get base level Mac Pro performance. Heck, I could cut $100 out of the power supply budget and add in your WiFi and Thunderbolt cards and still be well under the kind of juice a Xeon+580 would pull down.

Engadget: Apple finally reveals the new Mac Pro

My understanding is that you CAN'T do this. That the encryption key needed for decryption is stored on the motherboard, not on the drive itself. So if your motherboard dies, everything on the SSDs are lost too. If I'm wrong about that, groovy. I misunderstood, mea culpa, etc. You can add...
