    MEGASALE: JBL Studio Series Home Audio Speakers (590, 580, 570, 530, 520c, 550p Subwoofer)

For those that were looking to complete their set, this is the deal! :) And for those that want a set, this is your deal too. :) I have been tempted by these deals several years now. But not having the space for them, I will again have to pass. :(

    PBX System Recomendations?

So phone phreaking is alive and well. Can you hack these to be used for spamming people with sales calls? Then that would explain how a lot of the calls are made.

packet loss/latency monitoring inside and outside house

I've actually ran into issues like before and the two resources that helped me was the freeola line test (not the speed test), and a broadband monitor from thinkbroadband.

    2.5G Ethernet Switch Question

The most used scenario I see is where people have a wired connection to their nas and do move around a lot of files. Yeah, wifi won't really be using 2.5Gb until it can consistently break 1Gb, although I believe Ruckus and a few other companies have ap units with dual gigabit even now.

    2.5G Ethernet Switch Question

The problem I see for 2.5/5 is the competition from used 10Gb. With 10Gb now being established and working for so many generations, the older stuff is dirt cheap especially when using dac cables. I remember someone on reddit posting a complete 10Gb 'kit' consisting of 2x 10Gb cards and a dac...

    Running USB Transparently over IP

Yeah, the latency would be a big problem with two way communications, but I'm thinking for printing it may not be so bad since it's just an acknowledgement from the printer on the job status, etc. I really don't want to try a band-aid solution at all, but having to baby sit this site is just...

    Running USB Transparently over IP

I looked into a expansion paper tray that most units can accommodate, but because this printer is at the bottom of the lineup, it does't have one available. :( The printer can't be replaced since a replacement would probably use a different driver/show up as a different printer, which won't...

    Running USB Transparently over IP

I can't install anything on the source system. So I'm trying to figure out a way to transparently tunnel the usb connection to where I am so I can feed the printer all the paper it wants. :)

    Running USB Transparently over IP

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone auditing this industry for pci compliance--which honestly to me is absurd, but not my call. The solution I'm looking for wouldn't really affect pci compliance in any way since it is simply the out put of a print process being put onto a private lan and...

    Running USB Transparently over IP

So the type of things that others do with their systems blatantly and clearly violate pci compliance (connecting unauthorized devices like phones, installing unauthorized applications) and there's not one F given by anyone anywhere. I'm sure the biggest question of my successful setup would be...

    2.5G Ethernet Switch Question

Actually, even 2.5Gbps is more than most average users need. I remember the transition from 10 to 100 and 100 to 1000--the main driver from 10 to 100 was that there were applications that needed the additional bandwidth. And in most cases the existing wiring had to be changed since 100Mbps...

    Running USB Transparently over IP

Yeah I know. :( Not my circus so not my monkeys, lol. There's a lot of relocation products out there that use the host pc, but unfortunately I can't install software so I need one that is hardware and completely transparent. Using another device like a pi or pc in between is perfectly...

Cannot turn off 'Read only' on Netgear readyshare network USB hard drive

Being 8TB might be the issue. Try going back to even older firmwares like of the same era as your r6400. Obviously the code they were using back then worked. An alternate solution is to simply use your r6400 as your 'nas' by having it on the network without the dhcp server with an IP in the...

Cannot turn off 'Read only' on Netgear readyshare network USB hard drive

How large is this drive? Apparently there's some sort of 4TB limit (or there was). Lots of threads on the netgear community about the read-only issue, but no solutions except to downgrade firmware, which I would do if it was working fine before and you upgraded. (Don't upgrade unless you need...

Best modem and router for 1gb service w. Spectrum internet

I'm willing to bet this is a signal issue with the isp or just simply a modem that failed shortly after being put in service. Another reason to just stick with isp modems when they're free.

Best modem and router for 1gb service w. Spectrum internet

This is false. I run have a nailed up ipsec tunnel across the country using 2x sb6190s that were obtained from different sources (one I bought at BB and the other I got used from someone who was dumping it because of the 'puma scare'), and I run latency sensitive applications across this link...

    2.5G Ethernet Switch Question

With used 10Gb nics so cheap and dacs or sfp+ and some cheap pre-termianted fibre for a direct run, 10Gb is the way to go. The only way 2.5Gb is going to ever make sense is when it simply becomes the standard like 1Gb is today.

    PNY RTX 3070 / 3090 In-Stock @ CDW (Warning, overpriced)

I've generally found that all the truly legit distributors will be higher--but there's also zero chance of getting scammed with a fake since these goods come through authorized channels. It's like there's some insurance included for authenticity.

    PNY RTX 3070 / 3090 In-Stock @ CDW (Warning, overpriced)

Not the stuff I buy--I'm usually buying deals no one else can touch. :D You have to keep in mind that CDW is a b2b company and could give a rats ass about gamers. They also are a real, legit, authorized distributor for everything they sell, so if their distributor (probably ingram micro) is...

*Updated* 2.5" SATA SSDs (Various Retailers)

    Dell t5810 cpu upgrade

I think you'd see about the same results as the current setup except in cases where 4+ cores will help--then you'd see some sort of boost. Worth trying if it's cheap enough.

    Dell t5810 cpu upgrade

But it really depends on what the single thread performance was on the 10 core v2--I originally would have thought the same thing about such a drop in frequency, but the 2697 is actually in the same ballpark as the 1620.

WAN IP is a private IP

Yep, if your modem resets it will issue an address like that. Try 192.168.100.1 and see if you can look at your modem logs--might give an idea if what's up.
  27. S

    Dell t5810 cpu upgrade

Not necessarily. The single thread performance between the 1620 and 2697 will be hardly noticeable, but all the additional cores will really allow the background tasks to truly stay in the background: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-Xeon-E5-1620-v3-vs-Intel-Xeon-E5-2697-v3/2409vs2333

Aftermarket Router or Xfinity’s Wifi6 Gateway?

You could try a separate router and set it up as an access point and have them connect to it instead. If the xfinity gateway is having issues, this will solve it. And then you can get your own modem to completely move away from their equipment. Otherwise, if this doesn't solve the issue, then...

    Running USB Transparently over IP

It's actually not that important except that these reports when they're printed originally are the 'original'. Running USB Transparently over IP

This is definitely one of those odd-ball scenarios where there just may not be a way to do it, but I thought I'd put it out there and see what the ideas are. So I have a printer that is connected to a very expensive point of sale system that runs windows embedded, but that can't be touched...

    Post Your Connection Speed

Main reason is work. I know I try to have at least 2x isp connections at each location (home or work) so I have redundancy. Plus, with ipsec vpn tunnels connecting everything, the faster those pipes are, the more local everything seems. :) It also makes for fast television streaming...

Have gigabit internet but windows 10 is slowing it down?

Yeah, 105MB/sec from the Internet is pretty astounding considering NAS units couldn't do that when they were first introduced.

Exchange OpenVPN access. US via Europe and vice versa.

This isn't dangerous at all if done properly. But I'd use an ipsec vpn tunnel and some static routes/vlans to remove any local access. Ideally, you need relatives in the EU. :)

What's the typical lifespan of a SOHO type WiFi router? Has my router bit it?

I would run packetlosstest.com whenever you've having issues and see if there's some packet loss. There seems to be some packet loss on all connections at some point, and it may now be causing problems with wfh.

Best modem and router for 1gb service w. Spectrum internet

I've dealt with Charter/Spectrum for a few years now (decades actually as Charter) in both commercial and residential and in two different states. So areas allow a user modem and some areas don't. But it really doesn't matter as the cost is the same either way, so I always get their modem...
