So much FUD spread when a new product launches. It's amazing. Don't fall into the "I hate my new product because someone posted a bad review". Test it. If there is a true issue, it'll be able to be remedied, but don't write it off before you have it in hand.
Seems like every few months, I get the bug to play games.
Having sold my consoles this spring, I am strictly a PC guy now and working from home gave me an excuse to upgrade my system. All Solid State now. RAM pretty much maxed. Adding a second 4k panel (productivity and the occasional...
Thanks in advance for any input...
I built a new system this past weekend (thread here )
When I ran Firestrike, my video score kept coming in quite a bit lower than anticipated. Now, I am experiencing random shutdowns when I benchmark. These are full crashes to reboot and in a few...
Thank you. It was telling me to turn VSync off. Is that a general warning that is always shown, or do I actually have to disable it? I couldn't find it in Radeon's settings.
Nice system setup by the way.
**edit** Did a little troubleshoot on my end. I double checked that my GPU was seated...
What benchmark program is best these days? I ran a Unigine Heaven session just prior to dismantling my old PC, and the scores seemed way better than my new build. I did notice I was running an older version on my old system though (v 2.1 vs v4), so I am sure it's not apples to apples.
Successfully built last night. As is usual, a couple of stupid case issues slowed me down and caused me to chase screws :) .
It was too late to do any gaming or benchmarking last night, but it "feels" fast. I'll put it through the paces while working today and fiddle with it more tonight...
Yep... I had done some looking into StoreMI. Felt like something I'd never get around to using. I guess I'm kind if stuck in the past with some of my thinking.
Audio editing is all in Audacity. 16gb has always been plenty. New processor will speed up the mixing and rendering for sure.
Thumbs up feel good!
I like the 860 EVO for games idea. I probably hadn't thought that part through fully.
As far as music, my iTunes drive is about 400GB (I also use this for the raw recordsings and final mixes of my podcast). So... based on the size of this drive, it is just an easy and...
All good advice. Heeded a good portion of it. Thank you everyone.
Just returned from the store (was there while Formula.350 was posting. After a lot of vacillating, I tried to remain sane. Here is where I landed:
- Ryzen 2700X
- Asus ROG Strix B350F Gaming (at $40 after instant savings and...
Thanks for the input folks. I have gone back and forth on my build quite a bit. It wont be until I physically fill a cart that I decide whether to go balls out X470/2700X or bang for buck B350/2600X.
It will be an interesting trip to MC later today.
Thank you both for the prompt input/advice.
As far as memory, am I better w/ one 16gb stick or 2x8gb?
The quote above is so true. Then you fill the cart and see the bottom line... :) Then you negotiate with yourself...
I am sure my story is not uncommon. I used to build a new system every year. Seven years ago, I built this i7-2600k machine and haven't had a reason to upgrade. Yet...
Now I have the itch to go the M.2 route and take advantage of other current gen tech.
Looking at AMD's new offerings, I...
I picked up this monitor this week after realizing the 43 inch multi-input Dell I was lusting over was just too big for me.
At my 30 inch viewing distance, this is a great monitor. So far, I have only used it for some productivity and work (sadly, my Remote Desktop only supports up to...
Thanks for the input everyone.
Picked up a VisionTek Radeon RX 480 8GB. Haven't gamed with it at all yet. Just installed drivers and ran Unigine Heaven real quickly. I haven't done any sort of tweaking yet either.
Now to clean up that HD7950 for sale.
Thank you folks. Yeah, I realistically wasn't going to crossfire unless it was a $20 weekend experiment.
Turns out my card is good for Hackintosh. -edit- And manning as you can see below.
I may indeed grab a newer card and drop the 7950 on the bay with a radical "buy it now" price.
So I randomly hit up Ebay to see about a cheap and unnecessary upgrade this morning. I was considering testing Crossfire w/ my HD7950.
It appears my card, the Gigabyte Windforce HD7950 3gb is fetching more of a premium now. I see that some listings say Mac Pro compatible.
Is this just...
Budget is a tough question. I actually hadn't thought of it prior to posting. I am trying to keep the costs down here.
I initially had trouble even finding my current card on charts, but then got my head out of my a$$ and found it. It kind of looks like anything I buy will have better...
Quieter,Cooler, Lower Power Consumption and better performance than my HD7950
The time has come to upgrade my PC. The 2600k is going to find a new home.
Since I am upgrading motherboard and CPU, it seems fitting that this GPU moves on as well since it is loud and underperforms. As of this...
I have actually experimented using the WinBook for recording. All told, it wasn't bad. It definitely chugs at times but it doesn't freeze or drop the audio. I would have no issue dropping this and a USB mic in my bag and recording on the fly.
If you haven't checked out the show. Please...
I have had this system running a 2600k since the month the processor was available.
I used to build a new system every fall for kicks. Since I built this one, I have been looking for reasons to upgrade, but I game less and this thing has been fine for working over my VPN to the office and...
I haven't actually used the Winbook to record as my podcasting setup evolved pretty rapidly.
The show has launched though!
I am currently running a Radeon HD7950 3gb.
The main reason I want to upgrade is efficiency and noise.
As long as the card has even a modicum of improvement performance-wise, I am ok. I just want something quieter that pulls less power.
Does anyone have suggestions?
I made the mistake of not upgrading first. My Windows 7 install was an upgrade of a Windows XP install. I imagined my 128gb OS drive was a real mess of slapped together OSes.
I did a fresh install on a 512gb SSD and was told I couldn't activate. after a couple attempts, I merely paid for...
Got it. The way the question was framed merely looked spammy.
I make the statement based on experience. When moving large amounts of files, it takes forever and gives wholly inaccurate statements regarding "time remaining".
So I have a ton of files to move/copy in my attempt spring clean my hard drives and consolidate to higher capacity drives.
I know Windows' built in file manager stinks. What would you guys and gals suggest as a good replacement?
Thanks man. I think I have a 750 watt in there now. I am thinking about having an electrician come out and beefing up that circuit. Might be a better solution.
That room is at the far end of the house, and heating it is a bitch. My hvac guy has tried everything.
I want to play all games. I game in spurts where I binge for a week or two then stop for a while.
The plasma does suck energy, but it's the last of the good Panasonic Plasma (gt65), so it has to stay. It's just a beautiful screen.
I am thinking about testing the power usage of my PC...
