Ubuntu 24.04 LTS was dead simple to get to fold on the CPU and a SINGLE GPU. I tried 2 GPU, but initially had no success, and gave up. A cheap TPM addon board later, I was on Win 11 home and dual GPU worked just fine.
Sorry to hear about your kid.
The big C took my dad in '19, and when I was back home (on the wrong side of the country) my wife was diagnosed with a tumor. The big C took her in '21.
Thanks for the nom, I just realized I got nominated for March as well. I had not bothered looking at the DCOTM threads as I had been away so long. I didn't figure I knew enough of recent efforts to know who was getting nominated or for what projects.
Thanks to the notification bell I found out. :)
Back in the day of Pizza Boxen, if I didn't have a power button, I would just short the power switch pins with a screwdriver. I did finally wire up a couple of switches to jumpers so I had essentially a loose power button that I cold connect to any mainboard installed in a random cardboard case...
RTX 5080, no overclock. Details of the machine are listed under Omega2 in my sig.
Generally I've seen anywhere from 14 to 27Mppd. Some of the lower numbers are from when I was gaming. I didn't build the rig to fold, I built it for fun.
Here are 12 pages of data, straight from my logs.
Once long ago I was reasonably active around these parts. As I was dropping by to research a different matter, I saw the DC forum and figured I would drop a thread to say hi to old friends.
I got tired of tearing up machines and the high electric bills. I guess I'm sorry for loosing faith in...
I still haven't heard anyone bring up some of the other whacko stuff we did..... along with that dual P3, I had two Athlon "pizza boxen" running under my bed. Some of us got around the breaker limitation by having a box or two in every room of our house...
My lord there are some names from the past in this one..... (I suppose mine too) fired up my GTX1080 SLI rig today.... needed a space heater... Time will tell how long it stays on
Started out with Dual P3 1GHz @ 1.1 and a Couple C2 600s @900 (under rated overclocker that one as good as the...
Yep, they're out there, you just have to know where to look. They are once again a growing trend in the power industry. Elon Musk can build his Li-ion batteries, and yes they will be higher power density, but these are huge and won't burst into flames if you miss-operate them.
Man, you guys come up with some good ideas, and yet industry is just a step ahead of you. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/oregon-transform-lake-battery-charge-electricity-grid
Don't let that crash your hopes though, you could still do it small scale for personal use.
Yeah, something pretty close to what you are describing helps make solar more viable.
As it is our the two base load nuke units at my site run 100% (each just shy of 1 Gigawatt) 24/7/365, for just under 17 months before refueling. Less than a mile a way the 3 600 Megawatt coal units of another...
I'm not sure I fully follow "massive power option".
Just basing on my experience. Nuclear is a good option for what we call "Base Load", load that with be there 24/7/365. Nuclear is really good for coming up to power and staying there for months on end. Nuclear challenges you if you want to...
Hey, I operate them, I don't design or build them. Westinghouse is falling on hard times, maybe you could get one from them on the cheap.... y'anno a couple hundred million or so, and you'd have to pay a contractor to build it, and then some fuel. I suppose first you'd have to get a preliminary...
The title kind of says it all. I have yet again taken a long hiatus from participating in the forum.
For those who remember I discussed that I was going to school to obtain a Commercial Pressurized Water Reactor Operators License. Link here for those who want to peek into the wayback machine...
Huh... and I just restarted my boxen and the core_update cleared and the machine started folding. I've thought I saw a cut in production on that machine. My other machines are still running the 372.xx drivers, if there is any cut in production, I've not really seen it. My 1080 SLI is getting...
I'm still standing with my after thought of inductor. R33 is on the part, thus it is some kind of rating. L13 is silk screened on the board next to the part labeled R33, that would be the circuit designator L for inductor.
Either way though, the magic smoke is no longer inside the component...
Gilthanis,
Get yourself one of these https://www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/10622
That looks like it once was a resistor (on further thought, as the similar box next to it has the designation of an inductor it might be one of those, the L in L13 indicated what it might be I couldn't see the...
CV yep, and my son's part time folder SEAHAWK had to be RMA'ed. I'm not sure that there is a need for super concern with the 980Ti. We may be seeing a lot of failures, but we also bought a bunch as well. Heck, I have had multiple GPUs fail while folding, GTX570, 2x R9 270, GTX970, GTX980Ti. I...
heh..... I'm splitting atoms making my own.
Well not really, I still don't have my license yet, late this year. So I have to do it while a licensed operator watches me, and it isn't really mine, I still have to pay for it at my home. BS right?
Even so, still crunching, just no time to chat...
Core32 has it right.
Check for those frequencies with a program like nvidia inspector or GPUz. I'm sure you could see it in afterburner or others, but I use simpler utilities. I don't recall off the top of my head what a 1000 series card defaults to on error, but a 900 series defaults to 405...
When I get home from xmas vacation, I'll have to look into this. Early reports were that .33 did not fold, but there was to be a hot fix to solve the issue. Looking good, thanks for the heads up.
I hear they have done nothing to fix it in 376.16, heck it's not even on the list of issues in the driver documentation. People at folding forums, and nvidia forums are getting a bit terse with nvidia.
Welcome back, I hope all is well with you.
Ahh the great northwest. I loved living there, probably won't move back tho, my line of work is not exactly compatible with the locals.
Take care.
Nothing else? That suxors.... maybe they will get this sorted out, but I'm not holding my breath. Of course Stanford will insist that it is a nVidia issue, and nVidia probably insists that the issue is on Stanford's end. Please keep me posted if anything else changes. I have to get back to studying.
Nate - good luck with that. Now the tricky part..... scooping up all that magic smoke and squeezing it back into the PSU. If I may be so bold, I recommend the Magic Blue Smoke Refilling Kit available at https://www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/10622
I also need to report a death of my own.
My...
Are there any versioni 375 drivers that work with folding? I've been holding out with 372 series drivers, but my son just got Battlefield 1 for PC, and he cannot launch the game due to an error that 375.62 drivers are required to play the game. This is not quite the big issue with points as his...
Peeking back in......
jebo, I am still coming for you.
Been so busy with my school I still have not got my two GTX1080s yet, so make hay while you can.
Congrats Agent_N..... I always root for the tortoise. You seem to be keeping the same tactic as me. Not always folding in the highest club, but never shutting down. Slow and steady wins the race.
