This is the perfect example of why we fold. The points don't matter. The team rankings don't matter. What matters is that we fold.

Each processor will OC differently. You're going to have to play with the voltages and multipliers on each system independently.

    Memory Speeds

I know it's widely understood that memory speed has an effect on TPF, but I wanted to pass on my experience. All TPF times are for 8 core bigadv (6900s are what I see most of) I decided to see how much of an improvement faster memory would make. My original memory was DDR3-1333. After some...

Microsoft Research discovers what all DC'ers already know...

So they recommend moving the cloud computing into the buildings its users occupy. Doesn't that negate one of the big advantages to cloud computing? (consolidating computing power using economy of scale).

It's good to see we still have people willing to make the investment in folding hardware. Who knows what the future might bring. And thanks for the folding pr0n...:D. Maybe some day I might be blessed with such folding goodness.

    FAHClient V7.1.21 released (1st Open-Beta)

If you're running this client using GPUs only, you will only get GPU WUs (I know, duh...) not bigadv, bigbeta, etc. Based on this site http://www.overclock.net/overclock-net-folding-home-team/475163-folding-home-gpu-ppd-database.html I would estimate your 8K PPD is about on target for those cards.

    The Dreaded 2684

Nope, running Ubuntu. If your sig is correct, I'm betting the difference is CPU speed (you have me by 200MHz) and possibly RAM speed (I'll bet your timings are better than mine).

    The Dreaded 2684

Yes, the points are still above standard SMP, but it's the greater risk that worries me. Should something cause the loss of a processed WU, the lost time and credit hurts. I realized this has always been a risk with the bigadv, but now that the credit for the worst bigadv is on par with...

    The Dreaded 2684

So, for those with 2600k CPUs running -bigadv, if you happen to pull a 2684, the new points breakdown really hoses us. 32:00 TPF with a 4.6GHz 2600K nets an estimated 38.8K PPD. Makes you wonder if it's worth running -bigadv and risking getting nearly the same PPD as standard SMP. Thoughts?

    New BIGADV point system

Not sure if this goes with this topic, but I thought it might be because of the change to the points system. My Q9300 just picked up a 7200 WU. I've processed these before and they've always been labeled as SMP. For some reason HFM is calling this one a "standard".

    New 2600K

It seems memory does have a big impact on tpf. I had no intention of OCing my ram, so I picked an ok set for my SB build. I based my choice on reviews that showed ram speed didn't affect gaming performance. Somewhere along the way, the folding bug bit me and a different choice would have been...

    New bigadv project 6904

This news truly does hurt teams like us, especially the top 20-50 folders here. We've been able to keep pace with EVGA even though we have 300ish fewer active folders because of the bigadv WU and the 2P and 4P folders. Given the change to K-factor and base points, will bigadv still be better...

    New 2600K

26:45 tpf in windows, 30:00tpf with -smp 7, 22-23 min tpf in linux (or so I hear), that's the plan. Just so I'm clear, based on what I've read on the linux smp folding guide, I only need to install (in addition to linux...:D) BFS, SSH, and Samba (so I can use HFM) to maximize ppd with my 2600K?
  32. C

    New 2600K

I can't take the ppd hit while gaming on the 2600K (-smp7 on bigadv). I'm switching the Q9300 back to my gaming rig and the 2600K is getting linux tomorrow after my current 6900 wu is done...
