    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

The maximum voltage of a capacitor won't change anything regarding the board operation. A different ESR might cause slight changes in voltage though. I did a full recap on a G1 and a G1W chassis, I don't remember this to systematically cause major convergence issues (and I only used top quality...

There probably was no need for chip swapping to find out if there is a problem. Just check each chip with a multimeter in diode mode between the +5V supply and the other pins. If you find it conductive when it doesn't make any sense (usually both ways), you got your faulty chip. ;)

Oh, I see. You're kind of guy who uses a nuke to get rid of a mosquito, aren't you ? As for the problem with your led, indeed there may be a short related to the standby 5V line but only triggered by plugging the TTL link. According to your board switching, we know the culprit may be on...

I don't know how you think to have repaired a trace because flat cables normally can't be repaired AFAIK. A damaged one has to be replaced. As for that led issue, does it turn off or turn orange ? Having the led orange and the display shutting down is normal behavior when a TTL connexion is...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

Have you tried checking the flat cables, especially between the N board and D board ? One or more tracks could be broken if they were not handled with care. Otherwise, if you can export the settings of the monitor on your computer with Windas and can only read 0s as values, the issue may come...

Some FW900 news for a change. :) I finally had some time to try fixing my red cathode intermittent G1-k short issue, mainly with neck tapping/discharges. In the process, the tube developped ... a BLUE intermittent short. As a side note, the CR7000 isn't very good at dealing with shorts. I...

I couldn't resist looking for the service manual, I confirm, that one is the next generation without the transistor trick. But it wasn't messing with the main RGB amplifier, rather the cutoff amp. I'm getting old and forgetful.
  8. S

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

No, that one is just a passive trick using a transistor, leakage current on the ground pin of the main RGB amplifier and the natural variations in behavior of semi-conductors with temperature. G2 isn't impacted at all by that system. That crap was only there on monitors from the same generation...

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

Well, being intermittent the problem must come from a faulty component or a solder. I doubt it is only a matter of settings unfortunately. Green + visible retrace lines is the usual result of very high G2, except G2 isn't supposed to vary wildly during a short period.

Check for a setting allowing to choose manually between PCI-express GPU/integrated GPU. The new motherboard might not be able to detect the adapter as a suitable display device and switch to PCI-express with an "auto" setting. But if there isn't any option like this in the bios, I suppose you're...

Try to use another screen to get a picture, get in the bios and make sure the motherboard hasn't another output set as primary. Otherwise I suppose you'll have to try with a PCI express gpu then.

Exactly. There might be some variations though, other than the different casing. I noticed the P1130 "made in Mexico" use a Chinese simple yoke, whereas the "made in Japan" ones feature a more complexe yoke also made in Japan.

Traces won't break like that on their own. When it happens, it's mostly because of careless soldering: part of the track doesn't stick to the PCB anymore with excessive heating and may eventually break during further operations. Keep in mind we're talking about "old" tech with thick traces and...

You'd be surprised by all the nasty chemicals required to manufacture flat panels. It's a wild guess but it may be environmentally even worse than what was required for CRTs. Lead in tubes doesn't really count, it's mixed into the glass.

And as I said, you're complaining about color balance, not excessive brightness, This part of the circuitry is completely different and not related to G2.
  16. S

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

Your issue has little to do with G2, G2 has an impact on brightness, not colors. I'm not sure what you're talking about with that resistor but it may be the resistor mod, a "dirty" and outdated way to fix excessive G2 when people didn't know about Windas and the white point balance procedure.

If capacitors are to be replaced, it's rather because of old age/use than bad quality. Many capacitors are of Rubycon/UCC japanese brands and some are even rated for 105°C use. That's pretty good for the period.

If there's a rainbow effect, this is probably not just a damage on the AR layer. There must also be a dent in the glass, I don't think of any other explanation.

Even if it were a good idea (it isn't IMO), all the Diamondtron I've seen have the AR layer directly baked on the glass, it is not a film you can remove easily.

I think I remember there's a mode with something like 129kHz in horizontal frequency in Windas, so that was probably possible at a moment during the product development, but that mode doesn't work on my screens. There were probably good reasons to lock it if they did this.

Just a little update to set things right. I actually got another message when I didn't expect any more. I'm told the firmware can't be updated on those adapters. Whether this is true or not, the situation doesn't change: either they're contacted within the warranty period and they may replace...

I'm afraid they can't, and it's not their job anyway. As far as I understood, they provide a chip with embedded flash and some preprogrammed data, then it's up to the manufacturer to set everything properly, and an update, if possible, depends on the chip's implementation. If the manufacturer...

As soon as the LED is blinking orrange, that means a fault is detected and power supply is shut down. So yes, there won't be any anode voltage, that makes sense. And BTW trying to measure anode voltage is stupidly risky, do you realize it normaly is of several TENs of KILOVOLTS ?

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

Ah, people and their flyback fancies ... :wacky: Blinking orange means there's a fault, period. The blinking frequency can give a clue, so does reading the error log in Windas. The issue can be anywhere, and flyback failures may be less than 10% of them.

    24" Widescreen CRT (FW900) From Ebay arrived,Comments.

I do not remember exactly how it is called but it's the first choice in windas' procedure list. It's not a safety report, but a failure log. The monitor doesn't have to be powered on to access it. Checking 220V ? With a multimeter, as simple as that. Power the monitor on and measure voltage...

I checked your previous posts and found your video about the original problem. Does it still do the same, with that spark gap SG901 enabling continuously several times before the monitor going down ? That's a symptom for high voltage overvoltage, but it doesn't mean necessarily the flyback is...

Not too sure about what you're meaning, but according to your description, my best bet is that's the digital area by area convergence setting that has a problem on your screen, as opposed to the basic convergence parameters.(horizontal global, and vertical top/center/bottom). Before breaking...

Nope. As I said previously, even if swapping flybacks between different models were a good idea, the service manuals show the flybacks aren't pin compatible between the FW900/G500 gen and the G520 gen. There might be some hope with your screen but well, there sure is quite an investigation to...

Good luck "replacing" the AR coating on a P275 or a P1130: it is a metallic coating deposited directly on the glass of the tube. It must be the same for Mitsubishi tubes as far as I know. Only the Sony tubes from the early 2000's and before feature a stuck plastic coating.

This is a big NO. The circuit schematic inside the flyback is different between the service manual of the G520 and the one of the FW900, they're not pin compatible. Also, I think someone reported using another flyback with success in the past and the patch-up job was holding but this is a...

Well, first things first, you have to check the cables are properly set in, and if it doesn't solve the problem, check the continuity of the tracks. As for the sources, there's one i bought on ebay, but the ones linking the N board/D board are Molex ref 98268-0331, with a few extra tracks cut...

Lesson One: Never edit manually a file when you have no clue about the values you're messing with. And on the top of that it doesn't allow to do things that can't be done properly another way. You can try the "restore" function in the color menu after heating for 30 minutes. If it doesn't...

The funny thing is that I ditched four 22" based on diamondtron tubes a few years ago because they all got unfixable blur problems in the corners with aging. I hope for the bidders they are lucky and their unit is fine regarding that aspect, but I wouldn't count on it.
