No Man's Sky - a procedurally generated sand box space exploration game

Pretty sure it's all the new purchases during the updates. Every time they update, it goes on sale for half-price on Steam as well. I'm guessing they've sold quite a few new copies over time. When they put in multiplayer, I bought copies for my kids too.

Is cyberpunk 2077 too big? Failure imminent?

It is completely speculation. It’s also of course friendly discussion. Probably out of boredom because none of the good games are out yet :D

Is cyberpunk 2077 too big? Failure imminent?

Any side quest is better than an ES side quest! :D What we really need is Ultima-scale side quests. But that's rare...

Games that you have replayed the most

I've played through it so many times now I lost count. I space it out to 1-2 years between plays. Definitely my favorite Doom game with 2016 short behind it. (then the DOS classics, and last Eternal :p ) I do the same with System Shock and System Shock 2 (only those have dropped to around...

I love Factor 5, but I'm more of a Turrican guy. ;) Still loved the Rogue games though.

Is cyberpunk 2077 too big? Failure imminent?

How can getting lost in a giant Cyberpunk city be a bad thing? Besides, I'm sure there are plenty of map augmentations that will help you get back to what you're doing... ...you know... ...if you're a pansy. :p Seems to me that there are probably enough side quests and random encounter type...

Alma was pretty scary breakdancing across the floor at you, or appearing as you climb a ladder. :D

What are scariest characters in games?

My second favorite game of all time! And the hybrids telling you how sorry they were to be bashing your head in! I found it more disturbing than scary, but still spot-on. It’s funny but as cheery as Ultima Ascension generally was, I found its spiders a bit more scary. The best though were...

How my current Gaming PC compares to 2020 Consoles

Mine's equivalent or just under in some regards. However, I still don't own a game that pushes it beyond what it's capable of, for me to play the game at the settings that I enjoy. Sooooo.... I suppose I'm just not going to worry until I hit a game that won't run the way I like. We'll see...

    Heavy Metal Nintendo 64

I have more of a problem with the collector and preservation mentality myself. The "it sits in this glass case" or "I never took it out of the plastic" sort of shit. Sure, there should be ONE of everything ever made in museum quality somewhere, but otherwise, if it's not being used what is it...

What are scariest characters in games?

Oh, that reminds me of SOMA. (I haven't actually played the Amnesia games even though I own them.) The things in SOMA are pretty scary, especially since you can't really do much other than hide from them. The audio and visual effects for them are just right too.

What are scariest characters in games?

Old man Stauf built a house, and filled it with his toys... :D I played the hell out of the first one. Never tried 11th Hour.

What are scariest characters in games?

It's not out yet, but a lot of the things in Atomic Heart look (if not overtly frightening) at least scary in more thought-provoking ways. Can't wait to play that game.

What are scariest characters in games?

I didn't find it overly scary, but it was certainly VERY cinematic, had some quite interesting sequences, crazy what's-his-name running around the rooftops, plenty of saw-blades to shoot at the enemies. It was dark, and a very well thought out level IMO.

10 Player Final Fight for the PC that works at 16:9 and 21:9

I never saw this originally, thanks for resurrecting it! Final Fight is one of my favorite arcade games. I have other ways to play it of course, but this looks kind of fun in a very ridiculous sort of way. :D

What are you nerds playing this weekend?

Someone was developing some new light-guns a while back. I think I saw them on a SmokeMonster MiSTerFPGA video or something like that. Not sure if they ever surfaced or not, but combined with a MiSTer or other supported system it could be fun.

What are you nerds playing this weekend?

I played the most fun game of all time this weekend. Move furniture around so the floor guys, painters, and counter top people can all work on my house. Ugh... So, no fun games for me. The previous weekend I played a bit of Mario 64 and Control though. Oh, I lied, my wife and I were at...

Why do people hate bullet sponges?

I can see your point here. I actually don't mind it in Borderlands myself, as it does denote a stronger level character. For some reason though it feels ok in something overtly shooter/RPG than it does in other genres. Pure shooters it's pretty much inexcusable. Borderlands also does a...

    Right to the point! Agreed

Why do people hate bullet sponges?

To me, it entirely depends on the enemy I'm fighting, the weaponry I'm hitting it with, the position I'm hitting it in, the armor it might have in various places, etc. If I have to hit an enemy in the face 10 times and it doesn't have some kind of insane face-shield, then something is very...

    Super Mario 3D Allstars

Well, I should have a 120-star M64 completion in the next day or two :D

Microsoft is buying Bethesda, id, Arkane and more

As long as I can still get these games on Steam, (which given the recent MS/Steam climate seems likely SO FAR) then I don't have any issue with this at all. If they start doing some kind of MS Store exclusivity though, I'm not into it.

    Super Mario 3D Allstars

So, it doesn't look like they fully tweaked things. On closer inspection (Mario 64) it appears that they're using a texture filter. However, it seems more subtle, and less intrusive than some of the usual ones used in many emulators. You can tell that's what it is, but it works. Also, as I...

    Super Mario 3D Allstars

I bought it despite my whining. There are actually some minor improvements in M64. Very minor, but they fixed a few texture issues present in most emulators, and replaced the pixelated text among other things. It’s one of the better ways to play it really.

    Super Mario 3D Allstars

True, they will. I am looking forward to Mario 3D World on the Switch though. As I mentioned earlier, I gave my Wii-U to my daughter, so it'll be nice to have that readily playable. It's a fun game. I'm actually not opposed to emulated classics, even for sale. However, my hopes were just...

    Super Mario 3D Allstars

Yeah, the rumors leading up to the official announcement were of remasters. I didn't pay close attention from the announcement on, so I didn't realize until yesterday that they weren't. What a bunch of crap. I have the original games, but I don't connect the systems anymore. However, I can...

    Super Mario 3D Allstars

I'm guessing you meant Galaxy 2. Yeah, that's a bit of an omission. Unless they're planning a second All Stars pack or something. I also didn't realize they weren't retouching Mario 64. I actually think I'm going to pass on this now. Even a minor rework, tessellate the models a bit, tweak...

    Super Mario 3D Allstars

I thought Windwaker HD was pretty much flawless. They also removed some of the more annoying game-play nuances. I thought they did an excellent job on that. I wish they'd move it over to the Switch as I gave my Wii-U to my daughter. I'd like to play it again. The Twilight Princess remaster...

Graven - Hexen Spiritual Successor Announced by 3D Realms

For me there are various grades to this sort of thing. I would rather see this running on the Doom 2016-Eternal id Tech engines, but I think this could also have a certain charm to it if they do it well. I've enjoyed some throwback shooters lately. Amid Evil has a very retro-Hexen/Heretic...

Is programming for resolutions that challenging?

IMO it has nothing to do with the size or type of studio (AAA, indie, mid, etc.) It will very much depend on the specific studio, their skill level, their “passion” so to speak for designing something top notch, or just a habit of shoveling out “usable” games with no real care for greatness...

Games that you have replayed the most

My friend did effects programming on this game. I used to go over to his office at SquareSoft Redmond, and hang out. We'd also hang out in Jeremy Soule's studio a bit there, and check out his keyboards. :D We'd also mess around on the SGI workstation, and play Doom and Heretic after hours on...

games that were on your school computers

In elementary school, the "computer lab" had only Apple II clones (Franklins I believe). They had Carmen San Diego, Oregon Trail, etc. Nothing exciting. I had a C64 at home with about 500 games or so. When everyone else got excited to go to the computer lab, I always grumbled. :D I had an...

Horizon Zero Dawn (Official Discussion Thread)

Glad to hear the latest patch is making progress. I only played for about an hour, and had no issues at all, but it sounds like some could have manifested later. I got distracted by Control, so when I get back to HZD things should be good. :D
