So i have a i7 920 I bought in early 2010. So at this point its 6 years old. its oc to 3.4 from 2.6 And has been for the 6 years. I have 12 gig of triple channel memory. Older sata HD, 770 video card. It pretty much does what I want, and plays the games i want no problem, and I play a decent...
Having messed around with my 5850 and after market cooling, i have a few thoughts on the subject.
1st question is, do you plan to OC or are you water cooling for the silence?
I will give my answers for both.
If you plan to OC:
Go for a full block. The VRM's on the 5850's are the...
Your welcome! Yeah, if my temps are lower than yours, and mine is way overclocked, i think im fine..
and yeah, my temps dont get nearly that hot in any game. Its been running great, an amazing cooler!!
Thats not a yes/no answer. Thats a dont know. Thus the term "non reference". It may be the same, it may not, and you have no way of knowing, unless you can find someone who has one, measured it, took one apart, etc.
For XFX purposes, the non reference ones have the fans in the middle of the card, the reference ones have the fans near the back end of the card, and look like every other 5850 out there.
you wont use the ram sinks on a 5850. You will reinstall the stock plate, its much more effective than the ram sinks.
If its a 5870, you have to use the sinks because stock plated is welded to the shroud.
I personally would use the thermalright v3/v4/v5 on the vrms if using the 5870, but then...
ok final stats on my last OC. This is probably where i stop, where im not real comfortable exceeding these temps.
final OC was:
Volts = 1.225
GPU = 925
MEM = 1200
Passed 100% load test for 20 minutes, no errors.
GPU: settled in after about 2 minutes, and didnt change much...
Did you plug in the 3 pin or the 4 pin? The 3 pin will work, and you can adjust it, but it will not do it automatcally. You need to plug in the 4 pin, and in the right direction for the automatic change to work.
But in the end, does it really matter?
1. Use afterburners, fan profile.
2. Set it...
thank you. I guess, my confusion was, i see people all the time comparing stats, or asking for temps, or showing screens..... but things are vastly different, depending what you turn on. Turn on postFX, and your temps will SHOOT up. Also with MSAAA.
So i was confused, if there wasnt a...
Heres our victim: A power Color 5850
Heres the back, where i have to remove the screws to seperate the the board from the reference cooler.
all seperated, you can see where the cooler hits the GPU and where the thermal pads are:
Here you can see i need to remove about 8...
When you OC the VC, your increasing your demand. Could be over 760/1110, your PSU cant supply a steady power. could be failing as well. When you OC a CPU and a GPU, its really increasing your needs. I would turn off the OC on the CPU, and see if that changes anything.
