I just got a 9900k, and used it on a Hero X. Easily got to 5GHz@1.32v, and its been running Prime95 Smallfft stable for the past hour, no throttling. VRM temp seems to settle around 89*C (no direct airflow, but semi-open case). Hopefully I can get it to 5.1GHz with a bit more work.
So...I clearly lost the silicon lottery with my 7820x (delidded). 4.6GHz at 1.29v is the most it can do. Any higher and my cooling can't keep up. During stress testing the cpu on its own use ~310 watts. How much does a 7900x use with a similar overclock? Considering it can manage with a lower...
No, no post at all. Just fans spinning and LEDs, and code 00 on the debug LED screen. Should have the new mobo by wednesday, so will be able to confirm then.
Godammit...think my motherboard broke :(. Delidded my 7820x (which went fine), and now it refuses to boot, showing code 00. Upon closer inspection one or more of the socket pins have been bent.
Ordered a Asus TUF Mk II, which will arrive next week. Just praying that it ain't the CPU that's...
Currently running mine at 4.7GHz @ 1.229v stable. Temps are high, but I'm waiting for a delid tool :). Wonder how far I can push this thing...
Quick info: Mesh at 3.3GHz, -5 AVX off-set. RAM is 32GB Ripjaws V 2666MHz CL15 running 3200MHz CL17 (got these for a steal on black-friday).
MSI x299...
Is anyone using Intel Optane (in "cache mode") with these boards? Do you notice any difference, or is it just visible when running benchmarks? Compared to just running a single SSD as OS/programs drive.
Couldn't help myself, just ordered a 7820x, MSI X299 SLI plus and 4x8 GB DDR4 RAM. And just for the heck of it I also ordered the latest Sims 4 expansion (gift for my wife). Wonder what the guy packing the shipment will think; "overkill much?" :). Anyways, got a really good deal and looking...
I have the oppertunity to get some 2400MHz DDR3 RAM for a good price, is that "compatible" with these Xeons? Meaning can I assume overclocking will work, while also running that fast RAM? Currently running 6x 2 GB 1600 MHz RAM, with a baseclock of 200MHz (Xeon X5660, Asus P6T Deluxe v2).
Have there been any reviews of the 8700 non-k yet? It's currently in stock where I live, considering picking it up. My cooling solution won't allow much overclocking anyways, might as well save some money and not having to wait another two months for the K version.
Couldn't help but to play a little more with my X5660 tonight, reached an overclock of 4.6 GHz, stable at 1.46vcore. But it sure get's hot at those speeds, so think I'm gonna stay at 4.2 until I get a better cooling solution (currently running a Corsair H60).
If anyone have any doubts whether or not this old CPU still can be used for gaming, don't worry. X5660 @ 4.2 GHz and GTX 1080 with slight overclock compared to a system with stock i7 6700K in 3DMark Timespy:
Can't believe I get this performance from a dirt cheap CPU off eBay!
Been reading several pages of this thread, awesome stuff guys. Got myself a X5660 the other week, grabbed my dads old P6T Deluxe v2 and swapped it with my Westmere i3 530 and motherboard. Bought the cheapest 1600 MHz RAM I could find on eBay, and lo' and behold, it actually overclocked rather...
