1. Can somebody link me to a slot-load slim DVD-RW drive? I think the post was referring to this drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106031 but it has been discontinued, and I don't see another product on Newegg.
2. I am curious about what the cables for this case...
The case is basically a vertical version of the SG05/SG06. I don't know what the final pricing will be, but in a Hexus video interview, Tony said around $130, and in the Chiphell article, somebody wrote in the comments that the price was RMB 999, which is around $160.
Right now you can get...
Thanks for the link. The review says that the PSU is not shipping with the case. I find that surprising since it needs an SFX PSU and Silverstone usually includes those (especially since there are not that many other options on the market). However I guess this way anybody who wants a 450W...
I'm confused by some of the earlier posts. Is the final case going to come in the silver finish (as in the picture), or will it come in black (with other colors on a wait-and-see basis)?
I would really like a silver/white/anything but black case. Maybe I will just get a white SG05 instead...
Very interesting design. Here is the product page: http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=46&lng=en&set=1
The height is 93 mm with dual fans, and 66 mm with a single fan.
Any of the fans recommended by Silent PC Review should be fine: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1040-page3.html
I've had good results with the Nexus Real Silent (if you have the space for a normal fan) and the Scythe Slip Stream Slim (if you have limited space).
I can't tell from the pictures, but is the PC-Q15 supposed to be like Lian Li's version of the SG05/SG06, but with only a single slot GPU? Is that a tray for a full-size optical drive? And what about CPU cooler clearance -- it looks like there is a lot of stuff hanging above the motherboard.
I am not familiar with that specific SilenX fan. However I generally find that the SilenX fans move too little air and are louder than they claim (or have a more noticeable sound signature).
Is your fan speed adjustable and/or do you have the fan speed adjustments properly set up? Many...
It is proprietary. You have some options, but they are not great.
Old Shuttles frequently have problems with bad capacitors. Check out http://www.badcaps.net/ for more info. If you know how to use a soldering iron, or know somebody who does, take a look. It could be a quick and cheap fix.
You...
They give you more flexibility because they are larger. The volume of SG08 is 14.8 L, which is already very large for a mini-ITX case. The volume of the Q11 is 17L. The volume of the Q08 is 21.3L which is almost a micro-ATX case.
It just depends what you're looking for in your SFF system...
It's very easy to test a PSU. Use the paper clip trick: http://www.overclock.net/faqs/96712-how-jump-start-power-supply-psu.html
I guess this assumes that your Shuttle PSU has a standard ATX connector. All of mine do, but I don't have a SN25P.
I'm almost certain it's bad capacitors on the...
The 9900 is thinner and larger but it is not lighter; it will actually be a little heavier than the 9780. The 9780 keyboard is pretty good, but with the larger size of the 9900, maybe they will bring back the larger keys from the 9000 which I preferred.
I don't think the speed is a selling...
If you want a Blackberry that is a Blackberry, I would go with the Bold 9780 now. I don't think the 9900 offers anything compelling for a typical Blackberry user. Worst case, it will be buggy with random annoying issues. RIM is not too great with their first-release models (I have used Bold...
I visited Fukuoka earlier this year. There is a Dospara near the Hakata JR station (close to the Yodobashi I think). They specialize in system building components, although I found the store small and the selection rather lacking. The components section of Yodobashi is a little better than...
Do you watch your movies in groups of 3 or more? If so, get a center speaker.
Do you have a good receiver and/or mixer settings so you can control voice volume, dynamic range compression, etc.? If not, get a center speaker.
I use a center speaker because I often end up sitting to the side...
I never used MediaBrowser. Are you sure it is GPU-accelerated? If not, then you will need a faster CPU, not a new video card.
I used to use MediaPortal, an HTPC front-end. I set up my system for 1080p movie playback, which was fine, but the MediaPortal software would choke on fancier skins...
I am confused why you need an upgrade or new system at all. You are primarily using this for movies and older gaming, but you already have a Phenom II X4, which is already overkill for your purposes. Nothing wrong with overkill, but you shouldn't have to upgrade it.
"this system doesn't...
I find it frustrating that it is so hard to evaluate thinness just based on the specs. I read that the LG Optimus Black is actually thinner than the GS2 and Sensation even though it would seem to be thicker based on the spec sheet.
However the GS2 is definitely lighter than the Sensation, if...
I picked the U2711 over the Apple display. The $150 adapter was one of the reasons. IMO there is no reason to pick the Apple over the Dell except for the anti-glare coating issue (which I know is a dealbreaker for a lot of people here, but I'm fine with it).
I noticed the AG right away, probably because I had read all the other reviews. But after using it for a week, the AG doesn't bother me anymore and I only notice it when I specifically look for it.
To other converts from 4:3 or 16:10: In addition to centering the taskbar, I also installed...
FYI, went ahead and bought the U2711 today. I was going to wait for the Samsung SA850 (the one with the PLS display) to come out, but decided if Apple can't even be bothered to use it for their iPad 2, then it's not worth the wait. Yeah there's always going to be better tech, but the U2711 is...
See Engadget's spec breakdown. Rear camera is 720p and front camera is VGA.
I like the HDMI out and the mirroring function. It's too bad the screen is the same, but anybody who reads the Displays forum here knows that getting high res, consistent quality non-TN screens in any device is...
Been looking at all the iPad 2 news available, but still no hint that it is or isn't using the Samsung PLS screen. But it seems like Apple isn't talking about the display at all. If it were PLS and "better" than IPS as Samsung wants to claim, then I think they would have mentioned it.
EDIT...
Just a reminder that the iPad 2 announcement is coming on March 2. Some sources are still speculating that it will use a PLS display, so it could be our first look at this technology, given that there is really no hard info on the upcoming Samsung monitors.
Thanks for the detail and I agree with your thoughts on all of these. If I were in the US I think I would get the ZR24W for the savings. However it's not available to me at that price here.
I basically feel like all of these 24" monitors do not really justify the extra $250 from the U2311H...
I am basically ready to spend ~$500 on a monitor. Mostly I have been looking at a 24" monitor, either the HP ZR24W, the Dell U2410, or the Asus PA246Q. (I know they differ a bit in price in the US, but they are all about the same price where I am.)
However I am having trouble accepting that...
I once had a job where I had to travel for work; ever since then, I pick my laptops like a "corporate" user. I put an emphasis on size, weight, screen viewing angles, and build quality.
Right now I like the Lenovo x201t and the 11" Macbook Air. Lenovo for the screen -- good viewing angles...
AFAIK all tray-loading drives use the same bezel design. Slot-loading drives probably have more variation. So if you go for a tray-loading drive you should be fine.
Lack of bezel is kind of messed up. You should make a note on the Newegg review about it.
I checked on eBay and there are bezels for sale there. It's an extra $5 or so but if you get another drive without the bezel, then that might be the easiest solution. I still have the black bezel from...
I would wait until after Thursday, Feb. 24, which is the rumored release date for the new MacBook Pros (with Sandy Bridge and other goodies). Even if you are not going to buy one, it will give you an idea of what to expect in the next generation of laptops, and you can decide whether or not...
I got this Sony Optiarc DVD burner (or similar) for ~$35. I didn't see the Samsung at the time but it looks fine too.
Here is a white faceplate bezel if you have the white SG05. Snaps right on and the color matches perfectly. They have them with or without the DVD/Blu-Ray logos. The price...
I have an X61s and I agree, it is hard to part with. Sandy Bridge is proving to be a very efficient platform and I think it will make for some great laptops. I'm planning to wait a year and see what options are available at that time. Hopefully Lenovo will get its act together and put some...
I ended up buying a 2.0 powered speaker set, and using one of them as my center speaker. The speakers I bought are a local Taiwanese brand (I've never seen them in the US or elsewhere) and the model number is JS2203AA.
These speakers are fairly well known in Taiwan for being a really good...
Probably not what you're looking for, but for owners of the white Silverstone SG05 , this is the matching faceplate that I (and others) have used for slimline (laptop style) DVD drives: http://www.centrix-intl.com/details.asp?productid=9003
Comes with or without DVD logos. Looks great and...
I currently have a Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speaker setup that I use in my living room for everything from TV to movies to piano practice. I'm very happy with the sound and it fills my small-ish room just fine.
However my usage is leaning more and more towards HTPC use, with lots of movies with...
IMO the only reason to get a Shuttle is because you like the look of the case. That is all.
I personally love the look of the Shuttle G5 cases (and similar ones like the H7). I have a SD11G5 that was my primary system until very recently. (Now I've reboxed it in black and use it as an...
I have mostly completed converting a Shuttle G5 case (SD32G5) into a modern AM3 mini-ITX system. Only do this if you really love the look of your Shuttle, otherwise it is completely impractical. The Silverstone SG05/SG06 is only slightly bigger than the Shuttle G5 case, and for an ITX system...
Even though the OP doesn't want an optical drive slot, the SG05/SG06 is still basically what he is asking for. That is because if you want a full-size, double-slot video card, and a power supply to match, then you will probably end up with enough room to add a slim-size optical drive in there...
