[Passmark] Ryzen 5 5600X claims the first place in single-thread performance in Passmark

The 5600 will be $220 and fill that spot. It just isn't releasing yet. Also, the 3600x still fills the gap for now.

[WCCF] [IgorsLab] Alleged performance benchmarks for the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT "Big Navi" graphics card have been leaked out.

I think he meant Direct ML can be used to perform the function of DLSS in the future and be an open standard (if not open implementation) that would work across manufacturers. Obviously it hasn't been done/shown yet, so we don't know how well or poor it would work nor do we know how easily it...

[WCCF] [IgorsLab] Alleged performance benchmarks for the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT "Big Navi" graphics card have been leaked out.

One only needs to cast days through bounding volumes, ray-cube intersections, and the other needs pixel/color information which requires ray-triangle intersections + texture filtering. Also, you can use filters for lighting in which it makes it a bit softer but uses less rays, you can't really...

Upgrade Zen 2 to Zen 3? Worth it?

This isn't really true, but the point isn't lost. The prices went up a little bit, so the $/perf will be better than zen 2 but not by as much as it could have been if the prices didn't go up. Since it was $50 across the board, the 3600x->5600x doesn't net you to much, you're basically paying...

Intel's supposedly RTX 3070-level GPU, the Xe DG2, is running in its labs right now

Intel's supposedly RTX 3070-level GPU, the Xe DG2, is running in its labs right now

If you follow my link, that is their Iris XE Max DG1 is a discrete GPU for laptops (available to OEMs only since they are laptop GPUs)... not for number crunching data centers. It barely outpaces an mx330.. which is slower than the mx350 and mobile RX 550. The claim they are going to go from...

Intel's supposedly RTX 3070-level GPU, the Xe DG2, is running in its labs right now

I don't see it... DG1 can't barely outperform an mx330.... They have DG2 that's supposed to be 3070 speeds? I just don't see that jump happening. You don't normally go from one of the slowest discrete laptop GPUs available to outperforming desktop GPUs in a single cycle...

[Passmark] Ryzen 5 5600X claims the first place in single-thread performance in Passmark

I think the argument was AMD was close in most cases, but won hands down in threaded loads, so it was ok that it was a little slower sometimes, but faster in others. *IF* AMD is able to beat Intel in both single and multi, then this is a much bigger deal than only winning in just gaming like...

[Passmark] Ryzen 5 5600X claims the first place in single-thread performance in Passmark

Better performance maybe, better temps? Doubtful, they're both 65w parts and will both pull ~88w under full load. I don't see you getting much different temps either way, but single core should be better with a 5600x. Enough to sell your 3700x and buy a 5600x? I don't think I'm going to...

Navi 21 XT to clock up to 2.4GHz

Yeah, should at least get some more info in a few days. Hard to say which benchmarks are what and when, but it seems there are more unanswered questions at this point. Always recommend waiting on 3rd party benchmarks from review sites before taking any leaks as proof of anything.

Intel's supposedly RTX 3070-level GPU, the Xe DG2, is running in its labs right now

Why would they do this? They would be more of a paper launch then the 3080... you don't price yourself so cheap that you can't supply demand. You can only gain market share if you can produce product and I highly doubt Intel's first chip is going to have the capacity needed to grab large parts...

Intel's supposedly RTX 3070-level GPU, the Xe DG2, is running in its labs right now

TSMC 6nm? Guess that's better than Intel 10nm, then again 14++++ is still better than 10nm ;). Also is this Raja making these claims? I remember why I was super excited when he finally left AMD. He had all these grand claims that got everyones hopes up and then the truth came out with the...

Intel sells storage division to SK Hynix

Now this actually makes sense then. I didn't realize they were getting that much of a FAB, so I guess that makes sense. And it's in China so I guess probably cheaper labor. It's a very slow transition as well, through 2025 it says, so I guess it gives them plenty of time to migrate and will...

Windows 10 machines running on ARM will be able to emulate x64 apps soon

I get that, but if you remove the Intel name, will it really help them in market penetration in enterprise? I think a lot of companies buy Intel because it's Intel, not because their products are better. So buying Intel, unless they can continue to use the name (which I doubt), doesn't really...

Navi 21 XT to clock up to 2.4GHz

I mean, it's only 3d mark, but this does point and bode well to the claims that it will compete on raster. Not only does it beat the 3080, but it beats it by more than the 3090 did in benchmarks. That points to a solid lead over the 3080, if not keeping pace with the 3090. We all estimated...

If Navi matches 3080 in Raster performance but not Ray Tracing... will we care?

I mean, it's a benchmark, so while it (and other leaks) appears promising, I wouldn't put to much stock into it just yet until we get some verified benchmarks in real games and work loads. I just hope that blender/amd supports RT properly on AMD cards... then I can use it for the few times I do...

Intel sells storage division to SK Hynix

I'm not really sure the upside for SK Hynix, it's not as if Intel is like the best of the best for SSDs. I'm not sure what they bring to the table to help SK Hynix at all? Almost seems like the price is a lot to pay for getting a blah business. Maybe its more for the server market as alluded...

Windows 10 machines running on ARM will be able to emulate x64 apps soon

Maybe AMD? I'm not sure I follow that logic, AMD has higher end consumer parts than Intel, so why would they be more worried? And they are more power efficient to boot, so again, why would AMD be the ones concerned at this point? Anyways, ARM has been coming to windows for how many years now...

If Navi matches 3080 in Raster performance but not Ray Tracing... will we care?

I guess that depends on the benchmark. Firestrike Extreme 4k, AMD beats 3080 by almost 20%... 3090 was around 12-13% faster than 3080 in Ultra, not sure how different that would have been with Extreme.... so according to this chart if to be beleived, the 6800XT should beat the 3090 in...

Threadripper 1950X or 3950X for linux workstation + nested virtualization.

Honestly, I haven't done a ton with VM's, but I do use docker containers without issue on even a 4 core. Also, if you are looking at the 3950x and you have a little while before you are planning to pull the trigger I would really check out the 5950x. 16/32, 105w TDP (in AMD terms, this is...

    Price cuts after 11/05/20?

Maybe because the leaked benchmarks showed the 5950x beating the 10800xe in both single and multi core using much less power ;).

Threadripper 1950X or 3950X for linux workstation + nested virtualization.

Check out the latest comparison of the 5950x, not sure availability, but apparently it's able to out pace a 10980xe in both single and multithread (in at least one leaked benchmark, so add salt). As you noted though, it's not always cheaper just because it's "consumer" and finding anything that...

    2kW+ PSU options?

Like I said, check local rules, I'm not an electrician, but I know you can run 240 over 3 wires, not sure if the latest rules still allow it or if 4 is now required. If it's an older installation, it only has to adhere to the code at the time of inspection, it doesn't mean it's up to current...

Do you use a grounding strap, or another form of ESD control when building or working on your computer?

I do similar, I still consider this a form of static control so voted always... "or another form of ESD control" If your intentionally touching ground to dissipate static, this is a form of esd control.

Do you use a grounding strap, or another form of ESD control when building or working on your computer?

I short myself to metal prior to touching anything. Haven't lost a component in 23+ years. Now when I was working on circuit boards on an esd mat I did wear the wrist strap connected to the mat to avoid damaging the boards, but they weren't in a chassis when we had to unsolder and resolder...

    Mom's PC... buy b450 + 3400G now? or wait for 5000g?

That I couldn't tell you, but I thought the video output was directly tied to the APU, so you should have the same hdmi support from the same APU regardless of which board you're using, but that may be a misunderstanding from me as I don't us APUs often.

Zen 3 is rumored to be flaunting monumental IPC gains in early testing

It's not really funny... games don't typically have online databases that store entries, whereas most benchmarks have been found in online submitted entries. They will arrive when the gag order is lifted but I doubt you'll see to much before then (but, sometimes we get lucky and some reviewers...

Zen 3 is rumored to be flaunting monumental IPC gains in early testing

Yeah, that's why I said it's worse than the numbers suggest. Intel TDP isn't even close to reality. At least AMD is consistent... 65w * 1.354 = ~88w... 95w * @1.354 = ~129w, 105w * 1.354 = ~142w. With Intel 125w could mean anything from 125 to 250... You have no clue unless you look up the...

Zen 3 is rumored to be flaunting monumental IPC gains in early testing

Well, this isn't really true... 10600k isn't constrained to 125w.. it's the TDP. Same for 5600x.. it's a 65w cpu, but not constrained to 65w. PL2 for 10600k is 182w, although this is only in 1 minute bursts, so depending on how long running the test was, it could be somewhere in between this...

    Mom's PC... buy b450 + 3400G now? or wait for 5000g?

That was for the 5600x/5800x/5900x/5950x.... Indications are a 5600 will be priced at $220, which is not a $50 increase but around $20 (10%). I wouldn't assume their $100 CPU's would be getting a $50 increase, they will price them according to their performance and target market. Anyways...

Razer is launching a prepaid credit card

It makes a lot more sense as their isn't as much risk involved with a pre-paid. Also, pre-paids aren't just for people with bad credit. Some people don't like carrying cash or having a card tied directly to their savings/checking and prefer to use prepaids. If they lose it or it gets stolen...

Navi 21 XT to clock up to 2.4GHz

Again, the 255w was only GPU power, not board power. Expect board power to be more. I would imagine ~300w depending on exactly how much the ram pulls... being 16gb with a 256-bit bus, it's hard to really say.

    Got uptime? :)

Hmm... my swappiness is whatever was default.. it seems it's prioritizing RAM pretty much since it's using 4.9GB of ram and 9MB of swap. I haven't messed with it, nor did I really have any plans to mess with it, just mostly laughing at how little swap it had in use. I'm not sure what the 9.5MB...

How many of those titles are dlss 2.0 and are an improvement over just using a rescale filter? That number drops from 14 to like 2? Maybe 3? Just having support doesn't make it better. It being better makes it better ;). Anyways, this thread is about RT anyways, but similar logic. How many...

Navi 21 XT to clock up to 2.4GHz

The cache system in rdna worked well... Well enough if you cut the bandwidth by 50%, you only lost ~20% performance on average... Rdna2 has an improved cache system/structure, so hopefully it's a non issue. Obviously benchmarks by third parties will be the final deciding factor on how well it...

confirmed: AMD's big Navi launch to disrupt 4K gaming

Absolutely not true, the 3080 is not very good at crypto (it's decent at hash rate, but sucks power) and the 3090 is an even worse investment. The 5700 is still the best, followed by the 5700XT... NVIDIA cards were much further down. The 3080/3090 are finally getting decent hash rates, but...

Navi 21 XT to clock up to 2.4GHz

250w was not total power board power, just total graphics power (TGP), so add a bit on to that for the memory and power conversion and board circuitry and you're looking closer to 300watts. Still not bad if it can perform at 3080 levels.
