Looks like MSI has succumb to pressure from nVidia and in the next version of AB, voltage is capped at 1.1.75mV.
Looks like I'll never be buying an MSI or nVidia product again, at least AMD doesn't limit us overclockers, they may have crap drivers, but they don't try to control us.
I'll consider Galaxy going forward, but the thing stopping me is that they don't have an RMA depot in Canada. When they open one here, I'm all over their products based on their great customer service.
First time I've ever had issues was with my CF setup on the 7970's, which is why I went to the green team.
I've had:
Rage Pro
Rage 128
Radeon 9000 Pro
Radeon 9800 Pro
Radeon X800 Pro
3850
4850 CF
5850 CF
6950 (shader unlocked)
7970 CF
Those are just the ones I remember, probably had more...
Since I haven't had an nVidia in years, can anyone advise what the best way to upgrade the drivers?
Do I uninstall and install the new drivers, or do I install these over top?
Thanks.
Sounds like a faulty install as I recall others with the accelero getting improvements in the VRM temps and a reference 7970 has much cooler temps on the VRMs than 100C.
I moved away from 7970 CF as well because although performance wasn't an issue, stability was.
It definitely improved since launch, but it wasn't enough for me to stick with AMD.
Now running a single GTX 680 Lightning and it's doing fine for me, but I may go SLi down the road when the price...
I did the same on Friday; went from dual 7970's (non ref) to a single GTX 680 Lightning, so far so good.
The 7970's were a great piece of hardware, it's just the software to support it was still lacking. Vast improvement since I get them at launch, but they still had too many stability issues...
I don't believe there are any reviews as of yet, but from my experience, there's been a big change since the launch of the cards in terms of the drivers, both stability and performance.
All the reviews out there are with older drivers; the 7900 series have vastly improved with the latest set of drivers.
Plus with the price drop, I honestly think the 7970's (non ref) are a better buy than the 680 series.
I'm going to assume it wouldn't make sense to flash this BIOS on non reference cards like the Windforce or DCUII Top cards?
Only reason I would want to is for the increased CCC limits since none of the apps seem to work for this aspect anymore.
I'm using 12.7 Beta with the 12.7 CAPs on a CF 7970 setup, single monitor and so far so good.
Mind you, I'm only playing Max Payne 3 right now, but I've had no monitor sleep issues like with previous drivers, and MP3 runs great at 1440p with all high settings, except MSAA is off since that's...
My DCU2T actually breaks the 10k mark in 3dmark11 with a max OC of 1180 on the core, but I do have a GTX 670 FTW sitting in its box, just contemplating if I'm going to switch over, though things are vastly improved on the driver side with AMD.
Ya, I believe the issue was resolved with the 12.6 Betas.
I used to have the problem of my monitor not waking from sleep with previous driver versions.
Haven't exhibited it yet with the 12.6 or 12.7 Betas.
Do you have issues with the 6970 though?
The old adage of if it ain't broke, don't fix it, might apply in your case.
Otherwise, I get your frustration.
Maybe, but I bought mine when they first came out, so it may not be voltage locked, either way, I'm happy with the OC I get since in a CFx setup, you don't need as high an OC to run games with max performance.
This is a pretty good card if you don't mind the triple slot solution.
It's probably one of the coolest and quietest 7970's right now. I prefer it over my Windforce 7970 because of better cooling, VRMs and just overall noise profile.
Uhh, my DCUII Top edition has been running great with the 12.6 Betas.
I did have issues before these drivers, but never with BF3. That game has ran pretty damn smooth since I got the 7970's back in January. So I'd say you've either got a bad card, or your OC'ing way too high.
Agreed, the 12.6's are what actually kept me with AMD.
I had already bought a GTX 680, but then AMD released the 12.6's and now the drivers are pretty solid, so I'll likely just stick with them.
I can say that with the 12.6's, most, if not all of my issues with 7970 CFx are now gone.
I had actually bought a GTX 670 (and ordered a 680) cause I was in the process of dumping my 7970's, and then AMD released the 12.6 Betas. Now, I'd say my mind is changed and I'm just going to keep my...
I guess it's a good thing my monitor support DP, otherwise I wouldn't have bought this card.
Sounds like it's impressive when it comes to OCing, just waiting for the thing to arrive!
