    I believe rsync on Synology only works with a user account called rsync or root. You can't use an account named test_user.

    Have you thought about CrashPlan for the offsite backup portion of your plan? It operates in near real-time and allows you to go back in time to previous versions much more easily than using something like Amazon Glacier or S3.
